as badly as i want for byler to happen i just don’t see the writers actually taking time to give mike a queer storyline in season five. and seeing some of the byler proofs on here just makes me sad because you are getting your hopes up so much and being so sure of this and you’ll only be disappointed if mike and will didn’t get together when you should be instead taking the wins of having such a main stream show having its main character be queer and having a storyline about that. queer stories are not only important when they involve couples that you can obsess over.

i’m going to say something that may upset some people but please just hear me out.

it’s not homophobia if the stranger things writers don’t give will a love interest in season 5.

i know people are saying that since he’d be the only one without a romantic relationship in the group it would homophobic be but considering the shit he’s been through over the past 4 seasons, he honestly hasn’t had time to get a love interest like the others.

also being queer is obviously a huge part of it. coming from a straight passing lesbian who grew up in a very southern and non-accepting environment, i fully understand not dating or having romantic partners for majority of your teen years while all your straight friends do. plus im growing up in the 2020s, whereas the 80s would be a whole other story.

will not getting a love interest is still good if not better representation because it’s more of a struggle to find those relationships when you’re closeted and in a place where it wouldn’t be safe for you to come out and openly seek a same sex relationship.

sure for some people those relationships just happen naturally and don’t have to be sought out but realistically it is very difficult, as a queer person, to find someone who you not only have feelings for but who also reciprocate those feelings, when those feelings are looked down upon by society.

and while it would be a very stereotypical happy ending for will to get a love interest, it just wouldn’t be very realistic.

i’m just saying that, while it may not always be the most happy or preferable ending, accurate representation is still super important because inaccurately representing issues erases them.
