It’s day 31 of #mythober !!!! Today’s prompt is “your favorite myth” I just went with one I didn’t wanna put on the list because I like my career in the non over state lol. So the one I picked was Lilith 🐍 In Genesis Lilith was the first woman, created from the same clay as Adam, but she refused to be subservient to him so she got cast out of Eden and God made Adam a new wife this time from one of his ribs. And I’m sure you all know how the rest of that worked out. Funny how that little part in the beginning somehow did not get mentioned neither in the catholic school I went to nor church. It’s day 30 of #mythober : Medusa 🐍 I’m sure everyone knows this one so I don’t need to write the story here. For the book I picked a version of the story that could be interpreted as somewhat more feministy I guess. I’m only mentioning this because I was thinking about how sensitive people are about hearing more feministy versions of stories as if most of these myths hadn’t been heavily edited by monks that thought women were the cause of all evil 😆 Like yeah all these stories are not what they originally were and 10000 versions exist. I’m pretty damn sure the women in Ancient Greece weren’t telling their daughters the version of pandora where she’s the devil nor the version of Medusa where her relationship with Poseidon wasn’t consensual. The way I picked the versions of the myths included in the book was by thinking “if I was an Ancient Greek mother how would I tell this story to my kids in a way that they would learn something from the story?” Because stories don’t just exist in a void, they are a reflection of the society they are created in and they exist to give you life advice. It’s day 29 of #mythober ! So only 2 more days to go!!! Today’s prompt is Aphrodite the goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, passion and sometimes war. She’s a cotton candy princess and the most ruthless punisher in all of Greek mythology. I didn’t get a proper #wip of this one because I didn’t know wtf I was doing, so you get a detail from later on in the process. It’s day 28 of #mythober and I’m trying claw my way out of art block 🙈 Today’s prompt is Pygmalion he was a king and a sculptor who fell in love with one of his sculptures. He prayed to Aphrodite to have her come to life and Aphrodite granted his wish and they apparently lived happily ever after. So the moral is I guess you can marry objects with no negative consequences 🤷🏻‍♀️ What color do you think i should use for this? It’s day 27 of #mythober Boy does this feel like the longest 27 days of my life Probably because it’s been 55 But is been long for even 55 days. Fun fact I started this whole challenge because I grew overwhelmed with all the snobby art world bs and have been pretty burnt out for the last two years. And I had grown kinda disillusioned with art and didn’t really know which direction to go. So I thought I’d go back to why I initially got interested in art. I had this illustrated book of myths that I got when I was 8 (so 15 years ago) which had this drawing of Circe that captivated me. And I dragged that book to every single art class begging my teacher to teach me how to draw like that. It’s day 27 of #mythober ✨ Today’s prompt is Circe 🪄 I was trying to do something fairly simple because I’ve been very much falling behind at this point in the challenge. So I consulted both of my brain cells and they both thought it was a great idea to do the most complex thing I could imagine 🙃 Thanks brain 🙃 Anyways Circe was a witch in Greek mythology. It’s day 26 of #mythober 🐮✨ Today’s prompt is Io 🐮 She was one of the mortal lovers of Zeus, who got turned into a cow by him in order to conceal her from his wife Hera. Hera of course is suspicious and asks Zeus if she can have the cow and then locks her under the watchful gaze of Argus, who is a gigant with 99 eyes. Zeus feels bad about the whole thing and sends Hermes to go save her. Hermes accomplishes this by boring Argus to death talking about pan pipes. Hera is mad that Io escaped and sends a fury to chase her all around the Mediterranean for years to come, she gives birth many times along the way and thus becomes the ancestor for many many important Greek kings and heroes. Eventually Hera forgives her and calls back the fury and turns her back to human and she gets a happy ever after marrying an Egyptian king 👑✨ The main takeaway from this story is that gods enjoy toying with the lives of humans for no good reason.
