Week 7 - Wireframes

below are some basic wireframes that i created to help me structure my content and assemble a unique design. I’ve gotten feedback on my direction so far and know how i want to improve on my designs for next week. I’ll be moving my project into Wix for the build, and hope to have itsvictoriajohnson.ca as my domain name

Week Six - Design

This is the design direction that i’ve chosen for myself. Purple has always been representative of me and i’ve chosen fonts with diverse families to create a larger hierarchy within my text.

Week Five - Ideal Workplace

My ideal workplace would be a high-end beauty, design, or health company somewhere in New York or Los Angeles, both of which are largely populated urban city with the option for remote work. I enjoy creating visually appealing and satisfying works of art, and hope to feel like I’ve made it as an accomplished designer that is sought after by millions. Eventually, I’d like to feel like a creative visionary in my field. 

I’d like to become a Creative Director (eventually) so that I can have the capability to lead, delegate, and oversee my own team of designers and make all executive design decisions in regard to the company. I’ve always been drawn primarily to a large beauty, health, or style company due to their already beautiful characteristics. Attractive visuals and aesthetics are incredibly soothing and inspire me to create better designs and healthier lifestyle. In addition, due to my extreme ADHD, my mind has a very large “out of sight, out of mind” policy, which would be much improved if I were to submerge myself into a company and schedule to keep me accountable and support/assist me when I need it and having successful and motivated coworkers and peers will inspire me to become better.

In an ideal workplace starting out, the company that I went to would work closely in a building with multiple creative outlets and the freedom to make my own schedule and production hours, and there would be constant opportunities to learn continuously and expand my brain to find better ways to design and execute concepts. There would be a base of supportive and constructive guidance within the team with schedule outlines and communication being the front of their business model. 

In addition to everything listed above, due to my high level of interpersonal skills and communication levels, I have a natural ability to speak with clients and work on building a long-term relationship with them, as well as the ability to make and incorporate new connections into future clients. I’m often able to understand what a client wants, and communicate back a thorough and comprehensive list of the devices that they need, the services that I will build, and the results of those services and how they’ll improve and expand their brand in a positive way. In a very general sense. I’d call myself a jack of all trades, with the ability to gain positive connections and trust with new clients and through clear communication and attention to detail, develop a modern and inventive design that will be incredibly effective in improving their current state.

PRODUCTION SCHEDULE:

WEEK ONE - Begin putting assets together, figure out which pieces I want to showcase, wireframe out my 4 pages (about me, resume, work, contact) on paper

WEEK TWO - Finalize design choices using the surveys that I have gathered, create rough wireframes in Figma and integrate small interactions to help me get an idea of how I want my site to work, possibly start building in Wordpress?

WEEK THREE - Start building in Wordpress if I haven’t already, Pages one and two should be finished in the week

WEEK FOUR - Continue build in Wordpress. Any fixes or tweaks I’ve made to pages one and two are finalized and pages three and four will be finished in the week, making any necessary adjustments between wireframe/website

WEEK FIVE - Any and all tweaks and changes are made.

Week Four - Self Audit

Ive just updated my resume and portfolio since I finished my internship and I am going to highlight a few different websites that I’ve built as well as a logo design that I’ve created previously and is in use by a store in white rock. I feel like including my advertisements/marketing projects and posters will also help me highlight the diversity of my services.

4) Determine what’s missing in my portfolio currently and how I’ll fix it:

Currently I need to gather images/formulate how to show off the projects I’ve done. I need to update my resume with new client projects and experience (and education haha), maybe create mockups? I was hoping to add the website I’m currently building in brad’s class so I still need to actually build the site/brand before I can add it to my portfolio.

5) What platform will I use?

I think Wordpress is the platform for me. It’s easily customizable while creating intense and dynamic websites.

6) What will my domain name be?

DAWG I have been trying to brand myself for like 5 years now this is difficult and so much pressure to figure out on time but I think after a lot of consideration and internal debate I have decided that VML will be my personal brand name (for NOW) VML is my first and middle names, which means it’s tied to me personally but it maintains a high quality tone/strong character. For web purposes, VML on its own may be too broad of a topic, so I might want to tweak it slightly to read as vmldesign.com or something like that.

Week Two - Inspiration

I couldn’t choose just one screenshot, but I did find two similar portfolios that I find strong and appealing that I would like to use as inspiration while building my own. 

What i find appealing about these designs is how bold they are, with a variety of media mixed into the portfolio to give it a more authentic, professional, creative tone that allows their personality to show through. I appreciate the mix between hard and round edges, bold typography and colour choices, as well as strong icon designs that are consistent throughout their portfolio. Specifically in the first example, I like the idea of having the landing page with an image of the designer with vector art surrounding her, with an arched border and simple illustrations. Additionally, I like how she included the picture of herself next to her work experience and has the consistent arched border with her designs and separating chapters of her portfolio. Similarly, in the second design I like how she’s emphasized boldness with her typeface on the landing page, and has a similar theme of arched borders and vector illustrations overtop images and the page overall. These designs are very unique and showcase creativity, passion, determination, and a bold character which is what drew me to these examples.

Week one - Homework

This image represents the things that i value in life, or things that i feel accurately represent who i am in life. 

although i circled plants i think i’d like to switch that to nature as it gives me a broader inventory to work with.

The few surveys that i’ve received back thus far have described me as: Outgoing, Creative, Caring, Professional, Dependable, Fearless, Honest

They’ve given me common strengths and weaknesses, with my biggest strengths being ADHD, Determination, Problem-Solving abilities, extroversion, and a Leader and delegator with other people. My weaknesses have been listed as ADHD(distractions/hyper-fixations), too emotional/empathetic at times, and self doubt/esteem. 

Ive had every person so far give me some form of cat as my spirit animal or the animal that best describes me, with Jaguar, Lioness, and Cat as responses with the reasoning “a lioness is a warrior without limits” The colours i’ve been given are: Light blue, Bold red, Purple, Pink, Gold, Deep Purple.

Last but not least, i wanted to get some insight into whether they thought i should do a Minimalistic design or a Bold design for my website and why and I’ve gotten all responses with Bold Designs!! they feel i am a very in-your-face person who is loud and proud and should do a bold design to represent that I am a risk taker who is bold and empowering person and not afraid to stand out.
