This painting represents colors colliding. The most vibrant color is red/orange. I came up with this by using the edges of the cardboard and taking the paintbrushes to make a background effect of splatter paint. I decided the border would represent closing out the white from coming in. Inside the lines represent the idea of locking the red in and some of them on the outside represent falling out. Something new I tried was all the colors being other colors. I was not sure if the other colors on top of the orangish background and purple swirls would show. So I used the cardboard to help the lines become straighter.

This drawing represents being in love. Your heart is in the middle surrounded by all the warm feelings that love brings. Bridging out to red/orange which is the most notable color of love. The yellow and green represent the feeling of the world is bright and colorful. Blue represents the bright skies people see when in love.

This drawing represents grief. One minute your heart can feel whole and you’re in the clouds over your lover. Then everything can fall and you do not know where to start. Your heart is broken and your mind is all over the place. (Markers, Colored Pencils, and Crayons used)

This photo represents flirting. It has always been said that opposites attract. In this, I wanted to show that although opposites may attract, similar people can also attract each other. Representing the negative to negative, positive to positive, and negative to positive.

This one represents the stage of grief. Your brain does not know what to do. Your trying to x that person out of your life but you also still love them. Love is something that will always be hard.

This represents someone loving you and getting the curls in your stomach and the butterflies. Showing that it could lead to heartbreak in the end if your not careful.

This represents falling in  love, hitting rough spots, starting to come out of it, and then it all ending and grieving the loss of your love. Falling in love with somebody is a battle and there's no way of knowing what could happen.

The Artist is Present

After watching the artist is present it made me realize the outlook that people have on art. Maria decided to sit in a chair for weeks and allow for people to come and talk to her. The connection between the people and Maria showed the gratitude people have towards art. When one has dedication and perseverance they can show this without talking.

Turtles are sea creatures. They hatch from eggs and then must make their way to the water once they have hatched. Like in the movie Moana. Turtles symbolize longevity, perseverance, retreat, and healing. They are one of many animals that have a long life. In my research, I found that when the turtle is your spirit animal, you are an old soul with a perspective on life. This means that you are deep and open-minded. I also found that turtles are the best to meditate on if you are wishing for a long life of health for yourself and others.                              The reason I chose a turtle was because of their hard shell and the that they symbolize healing. I grew up with my biological mother in a very unstable home. I was raising my little brother while also trying to find who I was. This taught me to have thick skin. When I was sixteen, I was adopted. This finally allowed me to heal from all the mental and emotional abuse I received over the years. I told myself when I was adopted that if I could make it through everything, I just went through I would be able to get through anything. Turtles are creatures who have long lives. I plan to live like a turtle and protect my shell.

        The artist I was assigned was Candida Alvarez. I was given this artist because I like to use shapes and bright colors in my drawings/paintings. Alvarez is an artist who likes to “Have a runway” in her paintings. When looking at her art I found that she and I connected in many ways. I have never been great at putting feelings into art. Having the chance to recreate one of her paintings, gave me the chance to show myself.

         I call this piece “Shaping the World.” I chose this because in the piece I was able to include many different shapes, something I have always enjoyed including in my art. I chose this painting of hers because I knew it would show the minor talent I have when it comes to art. Another reason I chose this was because of the colors. I knew that pink and green were two colors that I have always found go hand in hand together. With the shapes and the colors, it was many of her paintings that stood out to me.  I used markers and colored pencils to recreate the shapes. I then filled the shapes with paint. The ones in pink are recreations of Alvarez’s shapes. The ones in neon pink, yellow, orange, and turquoise are my own. Since I live off-campus, I was not able to hammer the canvas on the wall. I placed it on one of my wooden tables against our wall.
