reinhard might be the strongest man in the world but he always has the saddest most somber look in his eyes, like, even if hes actively fighting monsters he just looks like hes about to burst into tears any second. but he doesnt bc hes on the clock rn. i look at his default expression and think "he was forced to eat cement when he was 6"

Rewatching Re:Zero again and noticing that in Arc 1, when Elsa appears from the rubble again aiming to take out Emilia, Reinhard automatically shrieks out SUBARU’s name in warning. Instead of Emilia’s.

He calls out in fear for some foreigner with no clear motives, origins, or status, over a ROYAL CANDIDATE. Because said foreigner may be super suspicious and not at all near the same level as the other person in the room — but he did just call him a friend.

…Oh, Reinhard.

Reinhard/Subaru really is so funny because it's the strongest man in the world and his emotional support normal guy. And if he's not with his normal guy he starts screaming and crying and throwing up

I feel like not enough (of the very minimal) ReinSuba fics take advantage of the fact that Reinhard 1)Is the Isekai version of Superman and 2)Likely only has Willhelm, Heinkel, and whatever overly sanitized account his ancestors tried to leave of Reid to bury their shame, as a frame of reference for courtship and the like.

That is to say, more of these fics need to be having Reinhard be an a little stupid about their romance while being completely 100% Reinhard Von Astrea about it. I want to see him bring Subaru a giant cherryblossom tree (or whatever their world’s equivalent of it is) from the border of where the country meets Karagi because Subaru was talking about Japan and said he missed seeing them. I want Subaru to get a cold and Reinhard drags Felix from a gathering on the other side of the country to cure him. I want arc 7 to happen and Reinhard needing to be talked down out of breaking his own law and taking over Vollachia so Subaru can be returned home “peacefully”. I want him to awkwardly go to Willhelm for advice and Willhelm telling him all the batshit insane stuff Theresia did while they were dating and thinking that’s helpful. I want to see him try and propose with a kingdomwide sword duel and Subaru gently explain to him “Rein, buddy, you can just give me a ring.”

I want to see Reinhard try to romance Subaru in the most absolutely Von Astrea way possible

Reinsuba and Emisuba are parallels and no i’m not grasping at straws (Lie)

Hear me out, the parallels are there in their respective first scenes, Subaru meets a person whose appearance/role in the kingdom is extremely well known and said person is used to being treated as a monster by almost everyone due to factors outside of their control. Subaru proceeds to not recognize said person as the monster everyone else sees them as and instead immediately begins treating them like a normal person. That person was also introduced to him by saving him from thieves effectively cementing them in a positive role in Subaru’s eyes. Then after the confrontation at the Loothouse said person offers to take him home despite him being a suspicious stranger.

Am i talking about Reinhard or Emilia? Anyways, do you see my point, do you see it.

Reinhard/Subaru is actually the funniest pair because of the contrast. In the main route they admire each other for what they lack. They foil each other in how Reinhard is powerful and Subaru is weak, and yet Reinhard's family doesn't love him the way Subaru's does. But they also parallel each other, in the way that their respective abilities make them experience death repeatedly, yet won't allow them to die. And despite everything Subaru can give Reinhard the normalcy he never got, a real friend. Someone he can goof around with, someone he genuinely likes that genuinely likes him too. They're just buddies.

But the wait:if routes... They're always destined to be enemies whenever Subaru goes down the dark side. It's always tragic. It's always fucked up. It's Subaru burning down the entire country to "kill" Reinhard's image as a hero, and yet in doing so giving him the freedom he never had. And Reinhard experiencing emotions strong enough to call hatred for the first time in his life. Happy birthday, Reinhard!

Basically everything I ever see done with these two falls under "good and silly friends helping each other through their respective struggles" or "the two most fucked up guys in the entire world trying to kill each other as tragically and gayly as possible" it's literally so funny
