“You aren’t going to hurt me,” Jellie promised, giving Otti a reassuring smile. 

     At least, she sincerely doubted he was capable of hurting her, considering his relative inexperience in combat. It was really more a demonstration than anything else.

“Hey. I promise. Just stand as though you’re going to fight. Show me what your stance looks like.”

“Okay, I trust you Jellie...” Otti takes his stance once more, still a bit hesitant.

It’s painful obvious he doesn’t really know anything about fighting. His posture shows doubt and there are plenty of openings, he raised his fists but it doesn’t look like he knows what to do with them.

“L-Like this?”

     Jellie quickly whipped her tendrils out of the way, letting them hover above her just in time to avoid injuring him. She patted him gently on the shoulder and allowed him to pull away. 

“Careful, Otti. Awareness of your surroundings is the first step to combat readiness. You could have hurt yourself.”

     She stepped back, standing an arm’s length away. 

“Okay. Stand like you’re going to fight me.”

“Right right! Awareness! Serious Otti on!”

“...Wait what?” Otti’s serious facade quickly drops as Jellie mentions the fight being between the two of them. “But, I don’t wanna fight you Jellie!”

Jellie looked dismayed for a moment, then hurt, then almost guilty. She bent down a bit, reaching out to ruffle the otter’s hair. The motion was tender, as always, but troubled.

“I can teach you a thing or two,” she said finally, “but you have to promise me you won’t use them unless you absolutely have to. I don’t think I could live with myself if you went looking for a fight and got yourself hurt.”

   She couldn’t help herself. She’d gotten quite good at covering her feelings over the years, but she’d never been able to hide anything from Otti. She didn’t want him to fight. That much was plain as day.

    He pouts a bit as she reaches to pet him gently in the head. Despite loving the gesture, it still got him flustered whenever someone would do it without warning. His tail on the other hand, quite enjoyed the attention.

     His eyes light up almost instantly. “R-Really?! Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!!!” The young otter brought Jellie into a big hug, too overjoyed to even consider about the painful consequences.

He braves the pain of his friends stingers which he should be more careful off and pulls away, tail wagging wildly. “I’m ready I’m ready! Teach me stuff teach me stuff!!”

     Jellie flinched, as if she’d been stung. Oh, poor Otti. She didn’t even know what she could say to him. She didn’t want him to have to do this, but she could hardly stop him.

“Oh, Otti. I don’t blame you, but….” She paused a moment. “You know…you’re already strong, right?”

     Not strong like her and Kahra, but that wasn’t a kind of strength she would wish on him. Not Otti. Hell, she hadn’t wanted it for Kahra, either.

    “But I’m not the kind of strong that matters! I don’t have stingers like you do or knives like Kahra...I don’t know if I could wield magic like Lumi...”

     His voice was starting to sound desperate. The same scenario replayed in his head over and over again, where he just got in their way and in the end there was nothing he could do to protect his family. Once again, his family was torn apart...

    “I can’t be the small child that needs protection forever! I want to fight too!”

“Well, since there is no stopping Hadyn, that would make you indeed a god unlce, congratulations Kai. Don’t tell Hadyn I admitted he’s the God Father though I’d never hear the end of it”

      “ It wasn’t a welcome ta’ begin with. ” Hadyn nearly snarls, as steam spouts from his nostrils.

   “ Ya’ guys didn’t even contact me! Ya’ haven’t said nothin’! ‘ve been tryin’ an’ tryin’ ta’ get ahold of ya’ but nothin’! What the fuck is up with that!? ”

“Sorry! We did left without warning that was our bad,,,But hey, we here or at least I am. Still no clue were Kathy is atm”

Ian looks down. “Sorry dude...”

       “I want to be strong” The otter now in human form gazed at her with determination. He had already made up his mind and was ready to not let anything get on his path.

       “I wanna be able to protect you and Lumi if anything gets to happen. I can’t keep being the small kid you guys have to protect. I wish to be strong like you and Kahra!”

“So,” Jellie said seriously, crossing her arms in front of her chest. “You want to learn how to fight.”

     She looked her fellow familiar over head to toe, trying not to let her discomfort show on her face. Otti had never been the fighter and the group, and she frankly didn’t see why he should need to start now. As of now, he was safe. But if he were to fight…he could get hurt.

     Still. If he had to learn, better he learn from her than from….certain other teachers. 

“Can I ask why?”

      “ Huh… ”

      “ Oh, right, ahem– ”

   Hadyn promptly SMACKS the back of Ian’s head and starts shouting in his ear–

      “ WHERE HAVE YA’ BEEN!? WHERE IS MY LIL’ ROBIN AN’ HER EGG!? ”

“O WWWW????? THE SHOUTING ISN’T NECESSARY THE SMACK WAS ENOUGH!!”

Ian sobs the back of his head while trying to make sense of the questions Hadyn made him as they ring loudly on his ear.

“We’ve been here and there, mostly just me following Kathy around. She should come back soon I was just the first to arrive. And gotta say, not a fan of the shout out welcome”

   “ Wait, what episode? I haven’t had TV in months. Is this a new season? ”

      Proceeds to sit next to the nerd.

“Yeah, they’re in alola now and I gotta say despite not being used to the art style at first, the animation is really good!”
