Excruciating mouth pain; haven’t been able to sleep. Listening to Jeff Buckley’s cover of ‘the Boy With the Thorn in His Side’, as it’s the only sound outside of the purring of my cat that allows me to not want to put my head through a window.

I have an urgent care visit at 4pm. I called both my staffing agency and company to notify them of my upcoming absence- I’ll get them documentation of said visit before the end of the work day. Still, I have a creeping, ill feeling regarding all of this. The department seems to be on shaky ground as is, and - in a way- I feel slightly duped by my agency for throwing me into an already broken system. This, quite obviously, reflects poorly on me. I despise calling out of work, and I despise the idea of looking like an employee who does not care about their work.

My aunt has end stage cancer. Financial woes are frequent and, as such, expected: I’ve been told by those I love that I immediately go into a worse case scenario mindset, so I am trying to practice the understated art of “rolling with the punches”, if you will.
