I was in bed with vertigo for most of yesterday. This means that I never sat down in the soft living room chair with the cats, which I usually do after breakfast.

This morning, Dupe Cat followed me into the kitchen like he usually does and watched me empty the dishwasher, make and eat breakfast, make coffee, and wipe down the counters. He meeped at regular intervals to remind me that he was there, orange, and soft.

When I finished, he followed me as per routine - but paused uncertainly in the kitchen door. Was I going back into the bedroom again? Into the bathroom? I passed both doors. This could mean only one thing: the living room. He careened past me, got his claws stuck in the carpet for a second, and hopped up onto the arm of the soft chair, meeping continuously. I paused for a second to put my coffee cup on the shelf - the meeping increased in urgency - and began to sit down.

At the moment at which he threw himself into my lap, it was still at about a 45-degree angle. It was not yet, technically, a "lap". I caught him to keep him from sliding down onto the floor. Having achieved his goal, he has now been purring near-continuously for almost 30 minutes. The "near" is because he stops whenever I stop typing - I'm supposed to be typing, when we're in the chair.
