Helen getting the last word between her and Mad and getting to decide what they do the next day is so special to me. Because throughout the show we see how Madeline takes control of almost every situation in some way or another to make sure she gets her way. We also often see her talking over Helen or dismissing something she says, even in Alive Forever she talks (sings) over Helen (“hold, I’ve got something to say”). So for her to let Helen take charge and to just let her decide what they’re doing without having to have the last word, that’s some real character growth.

Thinking about a Madhel soulmate AU (not necessarily romantic) and kinda going feral.

Death mark AU-have the way your soulmate will die symbolised on your body (perhaps tattoos, perhaps scars, lil symbols idk)

Helen always wearing turtlenecks to hide her phantom neck scars. (Madeline figuring her soulmates probably in combat from the shotgun wound. maybe she goes after soldiers to date? maybe she avoids them?)

Even juicier, if they know about the others soulmate mark and still kill each other like in canon. (Maybe helen plans to kill madeline with a sleeping pill and drowning cause she knows deep down it won’t work or maybe to prove the little voice in her ear that keeps saying she obsesses over Mad a little too much wrong). Would Madeline figure out about Helen immediately after she dies? Is her choice to shoot helen hers or fates? dbsbvagdjsjbq

Maybe it’s unrequited soulmatism in that maybe Helen is Ernest’s soulmate or neither of the ladies or maybe Helen and Mad aren’t even soulmates and choose each other anyway?! the possibilities (0.0)

The theming of only finding each other after death, after the pressure to compete and be societally perfect is gone, after the pressure to Succeed before time is up is no longer relevant is present strongly in DBH and i think could be explored through a medium like this. If i was a writer, I will absolutely write this but alas :/ so if anyone wants to yap please i am all ears.

Trying to do a task while struggling with executive dysfunction is like pulling open a video game action menu and your only options are:

>> Vividly imagine doing the task

>> Think about other times you've done the task

>> Be stressed out about not doing the task

>> Do a different task

And it's very hard to explain that I'm not doing the task because my brain physically will not acknowledge that it's even an option.

Some MadHel Headcanons!

1. Helen wanted to be an equestrian growing up—total horse girl. She made it into a competition once but had to drop out bc her parents didn’t have enough time for it.

2. Madeline is secretly a cat person bc they remind her of Helen. This was only re-enforced by having to work on Dogstronaut.

3. Helen grew up as the youngest of five siblings + her parents were incompatible but overwhelmed by the idea of single parenting, so they only divorced once her siblings moved out. At that point they sort of gave up on raising her so in high school she spent most of her time alone with her books.

4. Madeline had a superrr demanding show mother that pushed her into dance, choir, theatre, and beauty pageants from an early age. Her mother also sold Avon + other MLM-type makeup brands to the neighborhood moms and used little Madeline as a model to show them the different products.

5. This is self-indulgent but Model UN nerd Madeline! She didn’t prep for conferences besides writing her position papers last-minute and had zero real awareness of global politics but LOVED speaking out of her ass at every opportunity during caucuses and getting interviewed by the World Press kids. Her excuse for joining in high school was that she needed to pad out her college applications with more academics to seem “well-rounded” for scholarships. (God forbid people think she actually joined for fun!)

6. Helen had a cartography phase in college where she bought old globes at antique stores and tried to date them. Eventually Madeline got fed up with the amount of space they took up in their dorm and forced her to pitch them out, so she started buying old maps to hang them on the walls instead.

7. I strongly believe in Autistic + ADHD!Madeline and Autistic!Helen.

8. Madeline used to have a thick New Jersey accent but it was trained out of her when she started her professional career. Helen likes that it slips out when she gets angry. Meanwhile, Helen spent so much time watching old movies as a kid that it gave her a slight Transatlantic accent. Madeline finds it wildly attractive but makes fun of her for it anyways.

10. Madeline plays a mix of Pitbull songs and classic musical theatre to hype herself up before performances + Helen listens to Reba as she writes. They fight viciously over the aux cord whenever they take road trips.

MadHel robbing banks and pulling all kinds of ocean 11 things because eternity is long and they got bored and Helen knows how to scale walls and enter buildings without being noticed so why not put that skill to use.

There’s this thought that is bothering me about how Viola frequently shows up throughout the musical after Madeline takes the potion and her and Helen kill each other. It’s not a foreshadowing kind of way but rather like she’s some unnerving presence for the both of them.

A constant voice reminding them of how they fucked up the only rule she gave them to follow. It’s like she voiced their fears and shame, as if they listen her constant “Don’t say I didn’t warn you” as a never ending loop but they just try to push past the noise by being with each other for eternity, no matter what, almost as if they quiet the voice for each other so they can have a moment of peace and quiet.
