I published another video! :D Hope you guys enjoy it!
I just realized I hadn't reblogged links to my previous ones xD
Please check out that sideblog if you want to see more vids.
youtube
Wanted to experiment on how much of the Charioce and Nina scenes I could put into one video! There's less of the dance here and more of the way they communicate with each other by looking.
Published video on August 23 2021.
—– drabble on the vid making process—–
Anime spoilers ahead read at your own risk.
The song is from Nina's POV.
The first part I conceptualized was the first chorus because their first dance is really beautiful to me and I knew I could fit it in the "come around".
Next I tried to figure out which key scenes would go with the other "come around" choruses. From there I could figure out which scenes to put in the verses. I try to keep things more or less sequential because for this video I wanted it to tell their story.
I knew right away I wanted the "Can't you see you're my life" line to be their kiss.
The last part had to be Bahamut fight and last dance ofc.
Favorite part is "But you're the one, you're the one" with Chris' smile :D
If you watched it then you know there are A LOT of transitions in this piece, mainly because I was experimenting.

Unfff that hair!
Also
It has a pocket?! Where did he store the necklace he bought huh?
(Bonus first pic for that soft smile)
Why isn’t Chrisu’s shirt thing a hoodie. I wish it was a hoodie. I mean it looks like a hoodie.

I know the time period he’s in is likely similar to our medieval times, and hoodies weren’t exactly in fashion. But I still wish it was a cute hood he could pull up and look angsty teen fashionable in.

When Nina says she wants to dance with Chris again...
I'm 100% sure this is what's going through Chris' head:
(I'm not totally satisfied with this gif coz I had to make it myself because all I could find was the rickroll meme).
Really people, Chris is the one who keeps asking her:
Look at those pleading puppy dog eyes.
Honestly Nina, SAAAAAAME.
I'd squee too if my crush wanted to dance with me again.
(Nina: dammit Chris is that all you got from what I was saying I was trying to lecture you about deceiving me...)
#SOMEONE GIVE CHRIS HIS DANCE ALREADY
So at the ball, when Nina goes to mark her territory asks Chris to dance again...
Honestly, this clip won't ever stop being sexy to me... It's the look of someone whose attention is entirely transfixed on you...
Chris inner voice:
And look! It only happens a couple times and mostly early on in the dance... SOFFBOI CHRIS aka SoftBoy Chris makes an appearance. I think he's trying so hard to keep his composure right now since Onyx Captain will disapprove they have an audience but JUST LOOK AT HOW HIS EYES GO SOFT...
LMAOOOO THE LYRICS
"She Wants To Dance With Me" - Rick Astley
There's a girl I've been waiting to see And I really get the feeling that she likes me 'Cos she said so, but not in so many words I've got to tell you what I've heard She don't want no wild romance When she's with me she only wants to dance~
She wants to dance with me

What is Nina's headband made of?
It seems virtually indestructible.
After she turns into a dragon she supposedly loses all her clothing.
But she still has the headband on after she turns into a dragon the first time:
And again when she saves Azazel:
And then at the last after Bahamut's defeat:
The only time she doesn't have it on after turning into a dragon is when she wasn't wearing it prior to transforming.
She didn't have any headgear on after the prison escape, before flying with Chris in dragon form, and after the ball:
What sorcery is this?! xD

Episode 22 - Charioce's motives 2/2
(or aka the episode where Jeanne declares a war and Charioce's motives are explained)
So Nina has Charioce down on the ground.
Now here's where it gets really interesting. For someone who has done everything up until now for his grand plan, Charioce seemingly gives up.
When he says "What's the matter? Do it!" to me it seems like this is Chris, desperately asking if he could just remove his destiny. At that moment it's like he wants to be done with all of it. A chopped off hand is a small price to pay for a different life without the pressure of saving the world?
He could have moved when Nina raised the sword with both hands. I mean he probably could have kicked out too. And yet he does nothing.
But of course Nina can't harm him in any way.
As he rises and Nina collapses I paused on the frame and he just looks so sad.
He doesn't even harm her after that, just puts his sword away again and as he does he is back to being Charioce. Though he can't help look at NIna collapsed at the ground.
Perhaps if Charioce had explained his plan he would have become a more likable character. But that's not his way. Charioce has never wasted energy on something he deems useless at this point. Why bother to explain? Charioce thinks he will die soon.
Charioce is also someone who loathes showing weakness and yet he can't stop the shaking of his hand and glares at Favaro for noticing it.
I think when he says that "Results require a cost" it's his way of telling Nina that he will die.
She calls his name and he looks back again. To tell her to sort of give up on him?
Charioce also says nothing to Favaro's deductions. It's true the Onyx Captain said that Nina was killed. It's not exactly true that Charioce didn't order Jeanne's kid to be killed. El's powers perhaps weren't an issue at that time so long as El didn't stop him and the Onyx team from using it against Bahamut. Which is a moot point because El is no longer a threat.
So going back to the issue at hand which is Bahamut. Chris still wants Nina to be safe so he tells them to leave. He knows she will find a way. I mean Nina can change into a dragon so supposedly she should be able to fly out of there. After all, she has escaped many times before.
And then this damn look. Just one last look. As if it's Chris telling himself his life would be worth it. For her.

Episode 22 - Charioce's motives 1/2
(or aka the episode where Jeanne declares a war and Charioce's motives are explained)
The scene where the scientist (I only learned his name was Chabrol when I googled it lol) explains the king's motives bugged me a lot. It's only when I went to make AMVs and played this frame by frame that I realized that it's because there's a lot of Chris than King Charioce in these moments.
And it's all because of Nina.
Earlier when Jeanne made her grand announcement waging war against the king, Charioce just looks up annoyed as if he's thinking "What? Yet another inconvenience?" aka "Bitch pls what is it now?".
Pfffft it's just a war, what's that compared to the arrival of Bahamut that could wipe out the whole world. Anyway, at this point he's already resigned to his fate. Look at him dismissing that little wrench in his plans and just concentrating on firing up his big bad weapon Dromos.
Not even the presence of intruders makes him turn around, trusting his minions to take care of them.
That is, until Favaro calls out Nina's name. That's the trigger, he has to see for himself that it's real. In an earlier episode the Onyx Task Force Captain (does this guy have a name?) told him that they had killed the red dragon. So needless to say he would be surprised. I doubt Charioce had any cause to doubt the Captain's words.
Despite the impending arrival of Bahamut, Charioce stops and turns because he just has to give Nina his full attention. He knows he can't concentrate on anything else when Nina is around.
Charioce draws his sword in warning but he already knows he won't win this encounter. I mean this guy has gone against Azazel and Kaisar. He didn't flinch when a giant rock landed close to him. He successfully evaded Rita's attack. This guy's reflexes are on point yo.
And yet when Nina attacks he lowers his sword! And all he does is evade.
And evade again.
When Charioce does go take a hit in, he even frickin telegraphs the movement, moving slowly enough that Nina can see what his attack will be. And look at him looking so intensely at her as if trying to say he won't really hurt her.
And then just one measly swipe that c'mon looks too high to really hit her with and then folds. Srsly bro, we know you're tall and she's short that's not exactly some precision hitting right there. Again this from a guy who has quick reflexes.

Why this blog exists
One day in 2020 I was going through AMVs on Youtube and came across one that I didn’t know about. But the characters looked interesting. A guy and a girl were dancing and the costumes looked medieval-ish and there was also a ball. So hey I decided to check it out and I didn’t even know anything about it. The first time I watched it was quite an experience. I was thrust into this world I didn’t know anything about. Mind you, I watched Virgin Soul before Genesis and so I wasn’t attached to any particular character. I hadn’t heard of the games either.
And hot damn, Charioce XVII. I understand he can be quite an unpopular character. I didn’t like him at first, even wondering how Nina could like him. Which made me wonder why. Why was he one of the main characters??? And then of course we get to that one episode where his motives are explained. I don’t particularly agree with his methods. And I truly wanted to find out what he was thinking.Â
So I watched Genesis. And while Favaro is a friend I’d like to have, something about his way of living wouldn’t be comparable to someone who carries a kingdom. I mean compared to Charioce XVII whose goal is encompassing of other people. It must be enjoyable to live life like Favaro, going where the wind takes you and living just for yourself. But there’s just something about Charioce being so damn noble that appealed to me. And thus I went on to watch Virgin Soul a second time.Â
And I just have so many damn feelings. This anime really makes you think. The world isn’t black and white. Imma write about it here. Thank you for reading.
TLDR: Found this anime through an AMV. This blog is a drabble dump. :)
