really i think the key difference between david tennant and peter capaldi as fans of the show they were in is that david tennant's childhood obsession shows through when he comes face to face with elisabeth sladen in school reunion with all the joy of someone who was in love with the show as a kid in the 70s. you know, like a normal person. (by doctor who standards.) whereas peter capaldi's childhood obsession shows through when he comes face to face with creepy mummy-like cybermen based off a partly-lost william hartnell serial which is deeply deeply disturbing on a psychological level with all the glee of someone who was disturbed on a psychological level by the show as a kid in the 60s

I think it's very funny that the resolution of the hybrid arc in doctor who was literally “the real hybrid was the friends we made along the way” , and it uses that twist in a context that makes it dark instead of saccharine.

clara oswald was so fucking iconic no ones doing it like her. 27 years old and shes got a 2000 year old all-powerful alien wrapped around her finger to the degree that his ex-wife is calling him her dog. hes giggling around her and constantly vying for her approval and shes like "hm i should get a boyfriend so i can cheat on him with this guy" girl you are insane and so is he. i respect the hustle so much

clara oswald is a manic pixie dream girl, but only in the literal sense of each of those words, the non-metaphorical meaning. manic not in a cutesy ‘teehee i’m so quirky’ way, but in an ‘i’m an actual control freak who wants to be able to successfully balance two very different lives and be competent in leading both of them. apparently i also need to sleep and eat and relax like a normal human being??’ way. pixie not in an ‘uwu whimsical’ way, but in an ‘assertive woman of short stature who may or may not be a mischievous trickster entity from a distant mythological past, one that looks adorable at first glance but embodies ambiguity and mystery’ way. dream not in the typical sense, but in the ‘i walk through the valley of the shadow of death and fear no evil; i appear in your mind at inopportune times; you can’t get rid of the idea of me, i haunt you like a persistent nightmare’ sense. girl as in impossible.

point is, she is much-deserving of the label in a non-derogatory, non-dismissive way, but as a genuine expression of awe and fascination
