So a while back, a fairly left-wing friend of mine was shocked at the thought of Left-Wing Holocaust Denial, asking how it could even be possible, how can the Left even deny the Holocaust given everything (quote: “why would the LEFT be in denial? After you read Elie Wiesel, you can’t deny any of it. Same with Maus, Frieda Appleman-Jurman’s memoirs, and all that. Also, Lois Lowry won a Newberry medal for Number the Stars”). So I’ve been chewing on this for a while now.
First, Right-Wing Holocaust Denial is straight up “denial that the Holocaust happened”–often with an undertone of “But we wish that it had and it was a great idea”. They deny the number of deaths, or excuse the Nazis, or say that the Jews had it coming, or say that it didn’t happen at all, that sort of thing. It’s a very blunt, straightforward form of denial.
Comparatively, Left-Wing Holocaust Denial takes a different, more sophisticated form that functions on multiple levels–with an undertone of its own along the lines of “the Jews are exaggerating to try to portray themselves as victims”–and to talk about this form of denial, I have to explain what the Holocaust was.
So this gets a bit long, because what is being denied is long, but I will ask you to bear with me.
But, TL:DR:
Right Wing Holocaust Denial denies the body count and the atrocities…
Left Wing Holocaust Denial denies everything that built up to it, the centuries of Othering and murders, and the aftereffects.

One thing that helps me calm down about intra-left-wing sniping and the reality that the big center-left coalition inevitably includes a lot of ridiculous nonsense, is to remember how ubiquitous seances were to progressive politics in the 19th century.  Like, e.g., Frederick Douglas had to go to so many seances. Many, many political strategy sessions around the country had to include feedback from the ghost of Moses who spoke to us via morse code.

Why doesn't social justice include jews?
i think there’s many different reasons
there are people who think all jews are white, therefore we must not be oppressed
people think antisemitism started and ended with the holocaust
antisemitism is usually only viewed through a U.S.-centric lens, rather than a global one. since certain jews have certain privileges in america, people think as a whole jews are more privileged than other people.
antisemitism is more ingrained in people’s minds than they realize, and even the most casually antisemitic beliefs are taught to us growing up. so people can be antisemitic or think antisemitic things and not even realize it
some people actually think that because israel exists, antisemitism in the diaspora is invalid or doesn’t exist
etc etc etc
social justice blogs fail to listen to us because of those points and more. people literally do not view as jews as oppressed. they refuse to view antisemitism on a global scale and see how badly jews are treated worldwide. it’s easier for them to say that jews really aren’t that oppressed in america so antisemitism is no big deal.
i don’t know why social justice bloggers act this way. i don’t know why they refuse to recognize antisemitism as a problem. instead of policing us or telling us we’re overreacting, they need to stop and listen. we will only be included in mainstream social justice if they understand us, and right now, they don’t understand us at all.

I think the reason a lot of leftists struggle with disability justice is that they haven't moved past the concept that discrimination isn't bad because it's objectively "wrong." yes, sexists are objectively wrong when they try to claim women are dumber than men. yes, antisemites are objectively wrong that jewish people are inherently greedy and run the state. yes, racists are wrong when they try to claim that white people are the superior race. and so on.
but then with disabled people, there are a lot of objective truths to the discrimination we face. people with IDs/LDs do fall behind and struggle with certain concepts. physically disabled people are often weaker and less capable of performing demanding tasks than able bodied people. many of us with mental illnesses are more reckless and less responsible. a lot of us are dependent on others and do not contribute much "worth".
and guess what? disabled people still deserve a place in the world. disabled people still deserve the supports they need. because they are people, and that should be enough to support them and believe they deserve a place at the table.
if your only rebuttal against discrimination is its objective inaccuracies, you are meeting bigots where they are at. you are validating the very concept that if and when people are truly incapable of being equal to the majority, that means they are worth less. this causes some leftists to then try to deny the objective realities of disabled people and/or become ableist themselves.
your rallying behind marginalized groups should start and end with the fact that people are completely worthy of life and equity, because they are fellow human beings and that should, frankly, be enough.

You know how I was saying earlier that there is no justification for rape and torture ever, under any circumstances?
These people are calling for that to happen to Jews every. single. day.
There is no excuse for this whatsoever. I better hear the gentiles insisting that the pro-Palestinian movement is not antisemitic condemning this with your whole chest.

I cannot actually believe I have to say this but older events are not irrelevant to modern issues when those events caused widespread damage to countless people and left permanent impacts on the populations targeted. Historical context, especially in the case of violent persecution and its lasting impact caused by bigtory and hate that are deeply ingrained in society, IS important and needs to be talked about.
The Trail of Tears took place in the mid-19th century, almost 200 years ago. The 13th amendment to end slavery was ratified in 1865, more than 150 years ago. Are those events suddenly irrelevant to current society because they happened so long ago? Is the expulsion of indigenous people from our lands no longer important? Are we supposed to forget slavery? What about things like European colonization that happened hundreds of years ago? Is that too old to care about?
Of course not, because we know the reality is that even if those events are "over" and have been for a long time, their impacts are likely to going to be felt forever and the bigotry that led to them happening in the first place is built into our societies and cultures and actively still hurting the groups affected. But it doesn't escape my notice that the "it happened so long ago, just move on" is being weaponized against Jewish people specifically, especially by leftists who would never even dream of saying that to any other marginalized ethnic and racial groups (and many other groups who AREN'T affected by generational trauma).
The Holocaust is still relevant. The global expulsions of Jews from countries all over the world are still relevant. The pogroms that devastated Jewish communities all over the world for hundreds and even thousands of years are still relevant. Acknowledging that doesn't mean approving of or justifying the Israeli government's actions, just like acknowledging other historical events doesn't mean accepting or justifying the bigotry and violence of other marginalized groups. It's not about justification, it's about understanding and remembering so that we can move forward without repeating that violence.
I'm just absolutely blown away by the callousness and cruelty I've seen from people and their absolute refusal to acknowledge the fact that antisemitism is a real and very active danger. If you think that people just talking about ongoing antisemitic violence is propaganda, then you have some serious and deeply-held bigoted ideals that you need to be acknowledging and working on.

idk who needs to hear this but if someone is religious, it is their business. you aren't funny or edgy for expressing your hatred for all religions on earth (which i doubt anyway, because i dont think you know all roughly 4000 religions on earth). if you have your own gripes with it, that's fine. whatever. but also don't generalize, and don't make it anyone else's problem. i do not care what religion it is. just keep your lovely mouth shut.

It's never felt more like a 'Fuck western lefties' time for Iranians than now! My people are struggling socially and economically under the rule of a fascist dictator terrorist regime, getting beaten, murdered and silenced by a corrupt government, that is vastly unpopular, day in day out. Now we're at the brink of a costly war on top of everything. And western left wingers are CHEERING ON THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC! Twitter and Instagram are full of dumb westerners acting like the IR is some kind of hero here. Fuckin hell. Two terrorist regimes are going at each other, the result is going to be more misery and civilian deaths. More destruction and casualties. There's nothing to cheer for here.
I can just hope this won't escalate into another humanitarian crisis. God knows the world doesn't need more war and loss of innocent lives right now.

can i be honest im 100% for the fact that like the tradwife stay at home mom thing is really fucked culturally but also like i think we as a society have to figure this shit out because a child needs the equivalent (if not more) of a full time job's worth of work from an adult who (for the health of the child and for the ethics of the situation honestly) needs to be able to function in a way that isn't making the adult miserable because being raised by miserable adults has really tangible negative impacts on children. whether its community childcare so that simply more adults can be involved in the situation or much more robust social aid towards young families. like this might he stupidly idealistic but i think really the root of a lot of issues in society come from the fact that people refuse to understand the gravity of like. parenthood. its an insane responsibility. i think it should be treated as such

Information for anyone who wants to make a donation in support of Ukraine:
Ukrainian charity fund "Come Back Alive"
Ukrainian charity foundation of Serhiy Pritula
United24 - the official platform for collecting charitable donations in support of Ukraine
The Hospitallers - Ukrainian volunteer medical battalion, which provides first aid and evacuates wounded Ukrainian soldiers
These are the main platforms that most Ukrainians (myself included) regularly use to donate to support our armed forces. Ukraine needs military aid, because only through victory we can achieve peace. Russia's only goal is to destroy us. If Russia is not defeated, there will be no future for Ukraine.
These funds buy vehicles for the evacuation of the wounded, thermal imagers, body armor and everything else our defenders need to survive.
Why you should NOT donate to the Red Cross
Any help, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated. Thank you ❤️

Six months. It’s been six months, and they’re still being held hostage by Hamas. “But they’re settler colonists! They deserve it!” Really? You think that they deserve to be killed by extremists? You think Kfir Bibas, a baby, deserves to be slaughtered? You think Naama Levy deserves to be tortured or far, far worse? You think the dogs and other pets deserved to die? You think Noya Dan, a twelve year old girl on the autism spectrum, deserved to die right after sending a message to her mother saying that she was scared? You think Noa Argamani deserved to be held at gunpoint while she made a video for a Saw-esque mind game where people had to guess if she was among the hostages who were killed… and were also put on tape? You think Shani Louk deserved to die while she was being tortured and raped, and her body deserved to be desecrated and paraded around like a souvenir?
Yeah, you’re doing a great job helping the people of Gaza, Palestine, and the West Bank. For sure. Six months later, things haven’t changed. You’re not anti Zionist, just antisemitic.
