Inner child work follow up here: I love that he is consistent? Almost every character has a moment reflecting “their most malleable” and the implications of sorting through trauma and trying to justify what doesn’t make sense.
The panel where Child Deku reaching out to a fallen child bakugo is CRITICAL in this series and drives home how impactful it is to Bakugo’s development to hero not villain, as much as he hates to admit it.
Child Toga was rejected for her uncivilized innate condition. They emphasize her most malleable scene much earlier on, only to find resolution when uraraka acknowledged her as a normal pretty highschool girl. Someone who was seen and accepted as they were.
Let’s also shout out Gentile and his sidekick. A young kid who needed some guidance and friendship at their most rejected and malleable, and the team they have become because of that supportive bond.
I think it’s interesting how he introduced these last chapters driving home childhood experiences from ugly ass newborn bakugo to young toshinori’s backlash. Their individual interpretations on the situations from childhood rely on the support granted and I think Horikoshi is making a huge point that it impacts and follows the way you think and feel and react and thus, your outlook, when new situations arise. That this is the crux of discontent and discourse - the twisted interpretations impressed on us as kids.
I think it’s interesting that there is still so much left unresolved past Shigaraki. As far back as mending the initial break between AFO AND OFA, and mic and aizawa’s closure on shirakumo. [tbh justice for spinner too that man was done dirty] A snowball effect from your most malleable and trying to make sense of the insensible, and how it plays out when someone is abandoned too long or left in the cracks. [I could go on, but Eri serves as a parallel of if someone got to Shigaraki earlier after his AFO brainwashing]
help you talked about it way more specifically and well done that i did, thank you 😭
there was a lot to unpack with your question in the first place, and honestly you find me agreeing with everything you've said. also Eri’s whole narrative is one of the one I like the most for several reasons.
this whole thing about the childhood trauma is one of the best thing about bnha, i like it so much and i think it is very important.
kinda off topic, but for example my favourite jujutsu kaisen character is one that basically sacrificed himself so the younger ones didn’t need to, because “being a child is not a sin”, so that’s just another example of how much i give credit to this kind of things.
thank you for your addings, they were very much needed!!

Opinion on tenya iida?
I like Iida so much, I’ve liked him since the beginning!! I like him as a character, as the class rep (is it what it’s called? idk the english word for that) and I very much liked to see that he had flaws as well in the Stain arc. I don’t know why, but back then I didn’t think he was going to do the “wrong thing” in order to get justice for his brother and hand Stain to the police, but it was actually nice to see that like everyone else he has human reaction and he still has to grow and mature both as a teen and as an aspiring hero. The whole scene with Midoriya and Todoroki trying to help him with Stain is one of my favourite, and also the fact that he was in the Bakugou rescue squad??? Amazing. Loved it. Not to mention his role in the class’ plan to get Midoriya back when he goes solo patrolling after the war, I loved that he was there to grab his hand as well, as a friend and as one of his “cornerstones”. He’s one of the best guys and I am a sucker for the good guys 😭 also bonus points because i love his hero costume, his fight moves and he’s also very pretty but that’s not the point 💅🏼

Can we talk about Horikoshi’s use of inner child work approach to healing? I need someone to talk to about this.
I honestly very much like that? He makes it very obvious with so many characters that their “flaws” as adults (or even as teenager still growing up) are the result of unresolved childhood traumas, and how healing them really makes the difference. It’s not the first time we see that in medias, but the fact that in the BNHA series it happens cyclically and in so many different ways is just so nice, especially for the youngest that may recognise some situations and identify themselves in some of the characters. My favourite thing about movies, tv shows, manga, anime, books, is how relatable the characters are, how much of a difference they can make to viewers/readers, the comfort it brings to not feel alone in some kind of situations. It works also for the “other kind of people”, to understand how impactful may be something that we say or do to another person, how easy may be to cause traumas to other people, especially the young ones. I am no expert when it comes to the healing process and to human psychology in general, but I honestly appreciate the whole inner child work probably more than I can explain. Now, I am curious about what you have to say!

When Eijirou lays by his side, Should frowns.
“What are you doing?”
“What am I doing?”
“Too far. Come here.”
Eijirou doesn’t need to be told twice. He gets closer, facing him even through the dark of the room.
“Hold me,” Shouto says, demanding.
Eijirou hooks his arm behind Shouto’s back and pulls him towards his chest. He kisses his forehead, caring and gentle. Shouto wraps his arm around his shoulders again, unable to let him go.
They lay there in silence for a while. Their hands are still moving, lingering on each other’s bodies without uncertainty. They can’t see each other, but it’s easier to feel the tender touches. If anything, it’s more intimate. The warmth of Eijirou’s palm screams I’m here, right next to you. Letting Eijirou touch him right now is telling him I trust you in the dark, where I’m more vulnerable.
It’s so easy to give himself to Eijirou when he knows his hands are the gentlest that could hold him. It’s so easy to ask Eijirou to give himself to him, when Eijirou is always ready to give him everything.
Maybe it’s weird. Maybe love should require a little sacrifice as a proof, as a way to demonstrate commitment, good intentions, or its very existence. Shouto isn’t sure. He doesn’t know the rules, if there are any.
What he knows, is that this feels right. That Eijirou being right there is the only possible option for him, and he wants this every night. To be this close. To lay in silence and have his heart kissed and hear him say that he’s so fucking happy.
They fall asleep without wishing each other goodnight, but there’s no need, when they’re a tangle of limbs and the same wishes.
It’s going to be the best nap they’ve ever had.

Do you think the LOV should play a part in taking AFO down once and for all? And what do their future after the war should be like?… do you think they should HAVE a future?
oh, i would love if the league of villains actually played a part in the AFO defeat, but i really don’t know if that’s gonna happen? i mean, i can picture it, but i don’t want my expectations to be to high, you know? but at the same time, as much as i like the idea of them “switching to the good side”, i want to be honest and say they really shouldn’t get away with it, if that actually happens? redemption in this case would be different, they actually committed crimes and people have died because of them, so yes, i see a future for them but i think if would be fair if they end up in tartarus i guess — though, they should at least be able to access to mental healthcare.
this is a tough one too TwT i don’t see a different future for them, cause it’s not a squad of thieves we’re talking about, so as much as i think they could not help but become villains with their backstories, they still did unforgivable things. but they deserve help too, that’s why i mention mental healthcare. that would make the difference.
edit: you know what? i don’t know about how that kind of prison work but i actually want to add another thing. these things are kinda tricky, because i think about justice for the people that have lost their lives to the league of villains, but i also think about second chances a lot. something about them passing their lives locked in a high security prison doesn’t sit well with me either? they could probably have a chance to be rehabilitated to be back between people at some point, maybe do something good for the community, have a little justice themselves for the love, safety, quietness they’ve been denied of in their childhood.

how do you feel about mha’s attempt at a redemption arc for enji?
DUUUUDE. starting with this one? alright, i guess i asked for it.
short answer is: i appreciate it.
long answer might take a little more time and effort to explain, because i feel like there’s so many things to talk about. i think there’s probably nothing enji could do to change the past, to remove the trauma he caused to every single member of his family. nothing can change that. but does that really mean that things cannot get better? i get why people cannot accept his redeeming arc, i really get it because i myself can relate a little to the todoroki siblings cause my father is really meh (not going to elaborate, this is already tmi), but in all honesty would it make a difference to me if he apologised and tried to become a better man, a decent father? to me, it would. that’s why i think that if the redemption arc is actually managed in a decent way, it’s not a bad thing.
edit: i want to add, i also know that there’s still a long path ahead of enji as a father and as a man, obviously.
now, what do you think?
