Maturing is realising reading only 5 books compared to 50-100 a year is better if you actually spend the time to understand and interpret the work.

I wanna be Denis Diderot who coined the term "L'esprit de l'escalier', referred to his sister as a female Socrates, wrote a novel on religion which started as a catfish prank on his Marquis friend. And do not get me started on him and Catherine the Great.

focus on the likes and not the wants
Tumblr media Tumblr media
you may not want to clean your room, but you like the peace and call it brings you after
you may not want to study, but you like the confidence and satisfaction you get from being prepared
you may not not want to apologise, but you like the relief and connection that reconciliation brings
you may not want to cook, but you like the satisfaction of eating a healthy come cooked meal prepared with love
you may not want to exercise, but you like how you feel afterwards and how it makes you confident
you may not want to journal or write, but you like the reflection and calm it brings you
you may not want to step out of your comfort zone, but you like the new experiences and growth you gain from it

My 'Dictionary' because sometimes the effort of taking out the thick dusty book (which you totally forgot about) from beneath all your newer and fancier books doesn't give the meaning you want.
(But you can't blame the dictionaty either, he's just a practical old man gruffly complaining about the rise of e-dictionaries and Google: "Back in my day—!")
Melancholy: It's not "sad" as Cambridge Dictionary defines it, nor is it "pensive sadness" as Oxford does (though it comes close).
Melancholy is when you are sitting in the dim lighting of your room. Your head is against the window-sill, tilted back as you breath out a gentle sigh. You want to stretch out your arms, feel the oak wood of the window-sill brush your knuckles, but there simply isn't enough space. Your plants are bright and green, and they've never looked so lively. But they're bowed towards you, as if one of their leaves would assuringly pat your head. They aren't pitying you— they're accompanying you. Accompanying you to wherever your mind takes you, whether to the soft memories of the past or the bittersweet goodbyes, or perhaps nowhere at all. It's almost comforting.
That is melancholy.

I thought I had terrible posture— turns out I'm just cosplaying
we've been doing this thing called "hitting the nosferatu" where you hunch your shoulders and walk towards things while pointing with a long creepy finger
