and honestly i’m really hoping that they care about the plot, we’ve had enough leaders (and one would-be leader) die/retire this arc, and i really hope they don’t add to the pile hahshdjns. even harpercollins has to know it’s a bad plot choice.

i am also a bit reassured by the spoiler filled blurb for the next next book (wind i think???) not including any mentions of a dead squirrelflight, because it pretty much ruined every other interesting plot point for thunder. hooray for bad marketing decisions but it’s not the first time

the only reassurance that i have that the erins wont kill off squirrelflight before she becomes leader is harpercollins, which is perhaps the strangest sentence i've ever said considering harpercollins rarely does anything good with this series

BUT, my theory is that they know how universally adored squirrelflight has become in the last few years (she was always loved but the moonkitti video on how bramblestar is awful to her definitely made squilf love blow up) and see that if they make her leader they can make more people buy the books, squirrelstar merch, whatever.

this is what im hoping anyway because warriors isnt exactly known for making good plot decisions especially concerning female characters. and especially especially concerning squirrelflight

I'm honestly sad the Erin's never went with a sibling dynamic for Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight.

I absolutely get why they wanted to write them as mates (le epic symbolism, past rivals having their conflict healed via next gen, Lion King 2 vibes, etc) but man the way they acted in the second arc gave me huge little sister annoying the older brother vibes before they confirmed any romantic stuff.

Plus, they could still have him be overprotective of her!! And it would've made for a really powerful arc about Found Family vs Bio Family, and how you're not obligated to follow in the latter's footsteps just because of that lineage. Just. Man, literally so much of the weird later writing could've been avoided

like dude. she’s been made out to be sort of antagonistic a bit towards nightheart in the beginning and probably after idk i stopped reading after i heard squilf might die and i’ve been busy. if she dies that could probably affect him in some way like “noooo i shouldbe understood her better” or something idk if his view on her changed after that again i haven’t read like anything past river and chapter two of sky lmao. but i don’t want her to die for man pain she’s been through ENOUGH for man pain!!!!! i just don’t trust the erins or harpercollins with her. i really don’t

hawkfrost is lying here, obviously (he would probably have used some metaphor or loophole or even been a teacher for jaypaw to use his powers for evil). jaypaw would’ve had an internalized ableism moment before being forcefully pulled out of the dark forest and into brightheart’s nightmare dream before he could agree, kind of like spottedleaf in canon, by the same silhouette that pushed him here (the silhouette is not spottedleaf btw)

yeah there’s an animatic. a really, really old animatic. like half a year old.

made with kinemaster because i don’t have any editing apps and all of the money i make from commissions goes straight to my dumb stupid cats

ALRIGHT so the design changes for squilf and ashfur throughout the animatic, showcasing the fade into reality and ashfur’s anger. ashfur’s design changes twice while squilf’s changes once, the three stay the same. as you can see in the animatic, lion’s ears hadn’t yet been floppy because i hadn’t made the designs yet. i also hadn’t made the crush au so i stayed canon with this one (ew).

this was from the beginning when both are pastel colors, with a fuckton of heart symbolism because the world they live in is literally rose tinted.

when squilf pushes ashfur away because she’s like no dude i don’t like you. heart symbolism is all gone, hence the notes you saw!

Why does Lionpaw have Squirrelflight’s ears and markings if she’s not his actual mother, unless she is in this AU?

okay okay hold on let me get their designs rq, and no she’s not their bio mom, it’s still crowpool

okay!! the most notable traits are that their paws all have coloring, but their left (right?? i’m bad with directions) paw is white (or a significantly lighter color), their floppy ears with the splotching on the tip, and their white/cream tipped tail. and their back and tail ig but i do that design feature with too many cats for it to count

OKAY so these designs were originally made for an animatic (hence the notes) that then turned into the crush au (i’ll put its tag down here in case you want to see it) in which lionpaw sort of kind of almost kills ashfur and thinks he did for a long while. the parallels between him and squilf were important to me because i thought it was cool that the one to almost kill ashfur for what he did to squirrelflight was the kit that looked the most like her. plus i love floppy eared lionpaw

as for why they have these traits, they actually come from princess, firestar’s sister, hence why leafpool was able to pass those traits down to the three. also, i wanted to drive in how the three really are squirrelflight’s kits, because she was the one to raise them. leafpool, on the other hand, has the most similarities to hollypaw, and crowfeather with jaypaw. idk i thought that was cool.
