HOT TAKE: I prefer the TV shows as a continuation of the first HTTYD movie rather than the second and third movies.
I'm not saying the second and third movies are bad! Far from it! I love the whole triology, I was one of the kids that grew up alongside Hiccup and his friends, but I can definitely feel the limitations the writers put on themselves in their efforts to stay as close to the book canon as possible. The first movie was allowed to be its own thing with its characters sharing only some names and core traits with their book counterparts. There was no prophecy, there was no dragonese, and we see Berk as an enemy to dragons first.
Hiccup is introduced to us as a misfit who then meets Toothless and, through his new friend, "grows his wings" and realizes that he doesn't have to change. He is not a Viking, he's not "one of them", and that's a good thing! It's the rest of his village who ends up changing by learning from him, breaking those hard traditions and opening their minds to new and better possibilities. It's a story about friendship, personal growth, overcoming adversity and the impact of good individuals on the course of history.
Hiccup didn't need an arc on becoming Chief when his character already ended at a good point, but they gave it to him anyway. And, hey, they made it work! So credit where it's do.
But I'm not the only one that tuned in to HTTYD 2 and thought, in the first minutes of the movie, that Astrid would be the one to take on the role of Chief while Hiccup would continue doing what he truly loves: flying, finding new islands, discovering new dragons and "goofing off". In a way, you can say Astrid would be the Stoick to Hiccup's Valka.
Also, I'm so over the message that growing up means giving up the things you used to love as kid and eventually putting your family over your friends. That's real life. This is my whimsical dragon cartoon!
I love the second and third HTTYD movies but I'll always pick the first movie and the TV shows over them for a rewatch.

Love it when the show makes him turn the tables on his riders. Every so often it's Hiccup's turn to give the rest of them heebie jeebies and it's so cute seeing their reactions

smaugust day five—stormcutter
"Is that thunder, or is it the crack of a Stormcutter's wings slamming together, it's audible camoflauge as it swings down for the kill? These aces of the aerial class are among the most agile of dragons, their acrobatics rivalled only in majesty by their sheer size."
smaugust prompt list | class info | rambles below
this one took it outta me. lots of body. lots of wing. i do like how the face came out though so i cant complain too much. but this is the last of the dragons that im gonna be trying not to stray too far from their og designs (bar the furies)
stormcutters will slam their wings together to mimic the crack of lightning for avariety of reasons; herding prey, attracting mates, scaring off foes, and just for fun.
they have a large display on their head and neck; large ox-like horns with frills at the back. these are likely also for the purpose of attracting mates. males tend to have much large frills than females, but horn size is dependant soley on the stormcutter's ability to fight, regardless of sex. stormcutter's fight by clashing their horns together until something gives
they are primarily piscivores due to living in clouds anove the ocean, but will easily steal livestock, wild animals, or even the eggs of other dragons depending on how big it is.
like timberjacks, they spend moat of their lives aloft, though they are much more capable of landing where necessary
they are noticeably fatty dragons, both to withstand the cold ocean air and to give their bodies more energy to burn though, as powering two sets of wings even passively gliding is a lot.
the appendages by their beaks are feelers to detect changes in the air, like temperature and wind speed

"I was alone in a place who never make me feel welcome, you were the only of your specie and a lonely dragon, i was your best friend but to me you were everything, cause for the first time, you make me feel loved and cared toothless."

Hiccup and Fishlegs might be the geeks/nerds of the group, but Snotlout is definitely the theater kid. He sings beautifully, he can act, he gets really into characterization, he knows how to write and sew, and he loves wigs

I've been thinking about Gobber and what he means to Hiccup. From the first movie, we can clearly see he is one of the only people, if not the only one, to see Hiccup as himself. Not as the chief's son, or the runt of Berk, or Hiccups the useless. He sees Hiccup as Hiccup. He's also the only person Hiccup talks to, about he's insecurities, his fears, his frustrations.
We know Gobber is Hiccup's mentor, his teacher, but he is also a parental figure. The only one he had for a long time. Because the void Stoick left, was being filled by Gobber. When Hiccup had no one, Gobber was right by his side.
Once Hiccup becomes the hero of Berk, Gobber keeps treating him like before. He still doesn't see Hiccup just by one act that defines him. He sees a little kid that is clumsy, lonely, intelligent, stubborn, and that tries his best. He sees a person that is worth it just because he's alive, he sees a person that makes mistakes, a Viking. He might not be the viking everyone wanted, but he is one nonetheless.
He even advocates for him. He is the reason Hiccup got the chance to train like the other kids. And I have no doubt he is the reason Hiccup became his apprentice. He is the only one that understood that Hiccup could have a chance to be good at something if only he could learn how to do it.
Even if he didn't truly believe Hiccup could be the best Viking, even when he was surprised Hiccup did well during training. He still saw potential.
And because he saw Hiccup as a person, he was also the only one that understood him. He saw how hard Hiccup was trying to become a viking, he saw how hard Hiccup tried to make Stoick proud. But he also saw how he never tried to completely change himself.
In the movie we see how he convinces Stoick to let him train with the other by saying that he can't protect him forever because Hiccup will leave, he knows Hiccup leaves and explores, he knows he is curious and that he is stubborn. He knows no one, not even Stoick (or especially him), can't keep him away from trouble. And the best alternative is to give him the tools to protect himself. Because he knows Hiccup will never stop trying, but he also knows that while Hiccup tries, he can't know everything if nobody teaches him.
I wish we could see more of their relationship 🥹🥹🥹

This idea wouldn’t leave me alone for a whole week
Snotlout got burned again thanks to Hookfang, his vest is still smoldering and his back took the worst of it. Fishlegs is treating the burns while Snotlout keeps talking nonstop. Moments like this make it strangely easy for him to open up, and Fishlegs is the best listener, quiet, attentive, and always helping him sort things out
...he's actually complaining about the burnt vest he loved so much

Magical Girl | Parte 3
This magical girl is inspired by my friend @vktorr !!!
She is inspired by the fashion she likes, by her favorite color. The stockings were inspired by Alicia, who is one of her favorite characters, especially because I know she likes many of the adaptations of Alicia’s story.
And really wanted to implement things from Alicia’s design from the game “Alice: Madness Returns”.
Even if I only put the stockings with the lines in the final design lol.

I'm still salty about them changing his design after the first movie.
EDIT: Since people keep saying the changes are subtle/not really there, I'm putting this in the main post.
