Thanks for taking the time to answer this question. May I ask another question? She hates Wallonia and Brussels, how does she feel about the German-speaking community?

well, hate is a big word tbh tho she was v hostile till the sixties towards Wallonia  & brussels as a personification is more of a profound dislike towards the city and as for the german community, she’s pretty neutral but distrustful during wwii tbh. like it’s just there - louise doesn’t really know how to feel abt them !!!

If a personaification is supposed to represent the people among other things, would a personification of Belgium even make sense? Wouldn't it make more sense to have a personification for each region who come together to decide on national affairs but otherwise mind their own business?

good question !   in my eyes ,  i consider it to make sense ,   and there is still a ‘belgian’ feeling although flemish and walloon nationalism have been on the rise ,   which is why i consider it quite hard to portray belgium as a country tbh !      most of the belgian people still consider themselves belgian and don’t want separatism   -   louise is an advocate for confederalism ,   teetering towards independence   ( the cornerstone of her character is the history of the flemish movement !  )    but everyone thinks there should go more power to the regions because flanders and wallonia can’t agree on any subject .    basically belgium is a thing and belgians consider themselves belgian but regional nationalism is more of a thing fskfmjsqkfl  belgium is a fucking clusterfuck .

*   META  ;     friendly  reminder  that  louise  will  be  rather  hostile  towards  francophone  muses  from  1900  towards  the  end  of  the  sixties  !    allow  me  to  explain .  .  .    the  belgian  revolution    -   with  as  it’s  result  the  independence  of  belgium  ,    was  engineered  by  the  francophone  elite  of  wallonia .    during  the  early  days  of  belgium  as  a  country  ,    wallonia  was  economically  ahead  of  flanders,    and  the francophone  government  didn’t  see  the  need  to  invest  in  flanders  ,    it  looked  down  on  flanders !

        ‘  the first principles of a good administration are based upon the exclusive use of one language, and it is evident that the only language of the belgians should be french. in order to achieve this result, it is necessary that all civil and military functions are entrusted to walloons and luxemburgers ; this way, the flemish, temporarily deprived of the advantages of these offices, will be constrained to learn french, and we will hence destroy bit by bit the germanic element in belgium.                  charles  rogier .

    these  two  men  were  two  important  revolutionaries  who  played  a  critical  role  in  the  belgian  revolution  and  the  subsequent  government  !      until  1967  the  constitution  was  not  officially  translated  to  dutch  ,   there  was  more  investing  in  wallonia  during  belgium’s  early  years ,    and  flanders  suffered  the  most  under  wwi .   it  is  only  when  wallonia’s  industry   (  the  mines  etc  )   were  exhausted ,   foreign  competition  grew   &   flanders  got  a  footing  in  national  politics  it  could  reprise  its  role  of  a  mercantile  region  and  home  to  several  important  port  cities .    hence  louise’s  dislike  of  anything  walloon  &  francophone !    these  circumstances  triggered  the  rise  of  the  flemish  movement  ,    something  i  will  dissect  later  !
