Sprookjes hebben te maken met verwondering, die verwondering is geschept door de verwachting dat er in elk sprookje een magische verandering zal plaatsvinden. Een verbetering in het leven van de personages.

Die verwondering moet volgens Zipes respect en vertrouwen oproepen voor een wereld waar “alles kan” (net als bij Lüthi) en waar hoop op verandering dus zin heeft. Om verandering te verwezenlijken, moet de sprookjesheld enkel “geloven” in de “miraculous condition of nature and revere nature in all its aspects”.

The tales seek to awaken our regard for the marvellous changing condition of life and to evoke in a religious sense profound feelings of awe and respect for life as a miraculous process which can be altered and changed to compensate for the lack of power, wealth and pleasure that most people experience. Lack, deprivation, prohibition, and interdiction motivate people to look for signs of fulfilment and emancipation.

Uiteindelijk blijkt dus dat “wonder” in het sprookje –als “wonderbaarlijke verandering” en als verwondering – een ideologisch doel voor ogen heeft, met name het sprookjespubliek iets bij te brengen over wat de verteller van hun maatschappij vindt. Op die manier wordt de luisteraar (en later de lezer) gesocialiseerd. The oral tales have always played some role in the socialization and acculturation of listeners. Certainly, the narratives were intended to acquaint people with learning experiences so that they would know how to comport themselves or take advantage of unexpected opportunities.

We denken tegenwoordig rationeel, op feiten gebaseerd en wetenschappelijk verantwoord. Tenminste, dat is wat je vaak ziet aan de oppervlakte van de moderne tijd. Dat is het beeld dat er wordt geschetst. Dat we onze fabels zijn overstegen en de wereld nu verklaren in berekenbare termen.

Maar op veel vlakken is dit helemaal niet waar. Er is juist nu ontzettend veel overlap tussen feit en fabel. Als je kijkt naar de politiek van tegenwoordig, leren we dat een mening of zelfs een leugen, feit kan worden, waarheid kan worden in het hoofd van een grote groep mensen.

Als je kijkt naar de entertainment buisiness, is deze groter dan hij ooit was en vervuld van fictieve verhaallijnen. Waar wij ons maar al te graag mee voeden.

Daarbij komen dan ook nog eens reclames die ook steeds vaker gebruik maken van de avontuurlijke lures van onze favorieten filmhelden en heldinnen.

Tegenwoordig lijkt er wel wat meer aandacht komen te liggen op de fictieve elementen van onze tijd, maar doen we ons nogsteeds voor als rationeel.

Onze verhouding met speelgoed is een beetje zoals onze moderne verhouding met fictie. Speelgoed zetten we op een gegeven moment opzij als een soort rite de passage moment, maar er blijft altijd een deel van ons dat weer zin heeft om ermee te spelen. Denk maar aan hoe blij iemand wordt wanneer diegene speelgoed uit zijn kindertijd ziet.

Misschien is het zo dat de leugen zo goed werkt in deze tijd om dat de veronderstelling er is dat we de waarheid spreken.

One definition is that "pataphysics is a branch of philosophy or science that examines imaginary phenomena that exist in a world beyond metaphysics; it is the science of imaginary solutions."[5]

Patafysica

Pataphysics was a concept expressed by Jarry in a mock-scientific manner, with undertones of spoofing and quackery, as expounded in his novel Exploits and Opinions of Dr. Faustroll, Pataphysician. Here, Jarry toyed with conventional concepts and interpretations of reality.[3] Another attempt at a definition interprets 'pataphysics as an idea that "the virtual or imaginary nature of things as glimpsed by the heightened vision of poetry or science or love can be seized and lived as real".[1] Jarry defines 'pataphysics in a number of statements and examples, including that it is "the science of imaginary solutions, which symbolically attributes the properties of objects, described by their virtuality, to their lineaments".[4] A practitioner of 'pataphysics is a pataphysician or a pataphysicist.
