Games of Westeros IX 40k battle report!
Back at it again! Back in Västerås for another tournament, this time with 110 registered players. We arrive on friday and I play a game against my friends Imperial Fists in the hotel lobby that I end up winning, It’s a good start!
ITC missions 1-5 (the new ones), 2000 points, standard stuff!
Tumblr media
Again I am bringing delicious Imperial soup, but a bit of a different list this time. List is as follows:
++ Battalion Detachment (Adeptus Mechanicus - Stygies VIII) ++
Tech-Priest Dominus [7 PL, 82pts]: Eradication Ray, Phosphor Serpenta Tech-Priest Manipulus [5 PL, 65pts]: Transonic cannon
4x Skitarii Rangers, 1x Transuranic Arquebus [7 PL, 54pts] 4x Skitarii Rangers, 1x Transuranic Arquebus [7 PL, 54pts] 5x Skitarii Vanguards [4 PL, 45pts]: Enhanced Data-Tether
10x Secutarii Hoplites [4 PL, 95pts]: Enhanced Data-Tether
Skorpius Disintegrator [6 PL, 111pts]: Belleros Energy Cannon, 3x Cognis Heavy Stubber Skorpius Disintegrator [6 PL, 111pts]: Belleros Energy Cannon, 3x Cognis Heavy Stubber Skorpius Disintegrator [6 PL, 111pts]: Belleros Energy Cannon, 3x Cognis Heavy Stubber
++ Super-Heavy Detachment (Imperial Knights - Taranis) ++
Armiger Moiraxes [8 PL, 155pts]: 2x Lightning Lock Armiger Moiraxes [8 PL, 155pts]: 2x Lightning Lock Knight Crusader [25 PL, 468pts]: Warlord, Ironstorm, Thermal Cannon, Avenger Gatling Cannon
++ Super-Heavy Aux Detachment (Imperial Knights - Krast) ++
Knight Crusader [25 PL, 494pts]: Ironstorm, Avenger Gatling Cannon, Rapid-Fire Battle Cannon
++ Total: [118 PL, 2.000pts] ++
Mobile gunline! I have playtested it a bunch and really enjoy it, the hoplites are unnecessary but they are really cool so i wanted to run them. Double tech-priests sit in the middle of the disintegrators for all the buffs. It struggles with movement secondaries but as long as I can pick two kill secondaries it should be fine. And with the ITC missions changes the only kill secondary that is useful against me is Big Game Hunter, which makes it interesting!
My goal is to get 3 wins, or at least place better than I did last time (39th out of 80). Let’s see how it goes!
Round 1
Opponent: Daniel - Aeldari List: 3x Voidraven, 3x Crimson Hunter, 3x Talos, 9x Grotesques, Wracks Secondaries: Big Game Hunter, Gangbusters, Ground Control
Tumblr media
A nice first game as I already knew Daniel and we had played before, he was pretty new to his army too so we could just take it chill!
Going into the game I didn’t really have a plan, I picked Ground Control for my movement secondary hoping to have enough stuff left in the end. Daniel went first and zoomed all his planes into my deployment, killed the Hoplites with bombs and blew up a Skorpius, in return I shot down a plane and left one on a single wound. In the coming rounds I would keep shooting down planes while leaving his ground forces unchecked, which meant he got them into my lines and did a bunch of damage but most importantly kept tagging things in combat. My firepower proved to be too much for him so at the end of the game he only had some troops holding his backline objectives left, I had enough time left to run out and max my Ground Control. However he had gotten too many points in the early rounds
Loss 29-34
I could have maybe shot his ground troops instead to allow me to start moving up the board, however that would have left the planes alive so I am not sure, really fun and close game and with a 29 point loss I’m the highest scoring loser!
Round 2
Opponent: Stefan - Alpha Legion List: Discolord, Decimator, Terminators, Helbrute, 2x Venomcrawler, Hell Blade, Obliterators, Chaos Marines, Cultists Secondaries: Big Game Hunter, Reaper, Recon
Tumblr media
I was a bit worried going into this as I really had no idea what to expect, and I had heard the talk about the Discolord and how scary it is but I have yet to face one. I pick recon for my movement secondary as we got a really wide deployment and I am mobile enough. I went first and blew up the Helbrute, 1 Venomcrawler (that ends up exploding in his lines), and almost killed the 2nd Venomcrawler too. His counterpunch doesn’t do much and on my 2nd turn I blow up the 2nd venom and kill hordes of cultists between my stubbers and Moiraxes. He charges into my Taranis knight with the Discolord, my knight comes back and next turn the Krast knight gets into close range of the Discolord and blows him up without a problem. He drops his oblits down but fails to kill the Krast knight. I still have alot left and table him on round 5.
Win 33-15
Not much to say on this game, the amount of firepower I have is pretty insane, it was a fun match and we are in the same escalation league so Stefan has a chance for a revenge match!
Round 3
Opponent: Robin - Imperial Fists List: 5x Centurion, 2x Stormhawk, Relic Leviathan Dread, 2x Eliminators, Thunderfire, Intercessors Secondaries: Marked For Death, Old School, Recon
Tumblr media
Third game of the day and while I’m 1-1 I have a really good score, which unfortunately means I have to face other people with high scores!
I knew this game was gonna be rough going into it, I ended up not getting the first turn which makes it even worse, however the small positive is I managed to deploy really far back so that his centurions had no targets on his first turn. As expected he goes in hard and blows up my Taranis knights as I had managed to hide the Krast knight. The Taranis knight doesn’t revive, even with a CP reroll, truly unfortunate. He kills an Armiger as well. In return I do manage to shoot down both planes but at this point I don’t really see a way back into the game. The game continues and I blow up most of his scary things but struggle alot dealing with the centurions. However at the end of the game I still have all my Skorpius alive and the tech-priests, I end up scoring 0 points on my movement secondary.
Loss 22-32
As expected this was rough, I think I can win if I went first as I could have shot down both planes at least, and the Taranis knight not reviving was really unfortunate. I am really happy though with managing to score 22 points in that game. Also I must say this was my most enjoyable game of the tournament despite the matchup, Robin was an amazing opponent and we promised to get a rematch in some day!
1-2 going into the second day is not where I was hoping to be but it has been a blast so far and more Warhammer is never bad!
Round 4
Opponent: Jonathan - Iron Hands List: 4x Centurion, Mortis Dread, Chaplain Venerable Dread, Devastators, Eliminators, Apothecary, Feirros, far too many intercessors. Secondaries: Reaper, Old School, Ground Control
Tumblr media
With only 1 win I was hoping for maybe an easier matchup, however my still very high score continues to haunt me and I end up facing Jonathan and his Iron Hands…
Well this was gonna be rough, there is not much to talk about in this game really, He goes first and we end up shooting back and forth for a while, his centurions prove to be hard to kill, I nearly got them when I ran my Taranis Knight into the middle of his army and made it explode on a 4+, however the explosion only went 4”, it did hit his single remaining Centurion with the big 6 mortal wounds, but then he made half his 5+++ so it lived. Throughout the game his Lascannons roll really high on damage so they end up killing most my things, I also made some deployment mistakes though and had a few turns where I couldn’t shoot with some units. In the end my single surviving model is my Manipulus.
Loss 21-30
Iron Hands are still incredibly frustrating to play, however the turns I get to shoot them I still shred intercessors with all my firepower. The games against Iron Hands just aren’t very interesting to me though, I am really happy with managing to squeeze out another high scoring loss though.
Round 5
Opponent: Anton - Word Bearers List: Discolord, Possessed, Daemon Prince, Obliterators, 2x Venomcrawler, Chaos Marines, Cultists Secondaries: Big Game Hunter, Reaper, Ground Control
Tumblr media
Last game of the tournament!
I end up going first on Dawn of War deployment, kill 14(!) possessed, 2 cultists squad and a Venomcrawler, I also move up my Taranis Knight and the Hoplites to hold the middle, which in hindsight wasn’t ideal. He kills my Taranis knight with the Discolord but of course it gets back up. I then interrupt with my Hoplites and do 6 wounds to his demon prince, who then dies to the returned mortal wounds when he tries to punch the Hoplites, they did something! The Taranis knight ends up dying and his Obliterators nearly kill the Krast knight, but it survives on 5 wounds and lives the rest of the game. On my turn 4 I table him.
Win 33-18
I could have played this better but it was the last game of the tournament so I was understandably a bit tired, I didn’t need to go and hold the middle on my turn 1, if I had stayed back one more round it could have been even more decisive. This was another great opponent though, and with an awesome looking army, and since we finished so quickly we had time to chat a bunch after the match, and I could also walk around and check up on how my friends and previous opponents were doing.
Closing Thoughts
So 2-3 wasn’t where I was hoping to finish, however I had scored so many points that I finished 55th out of 106, if you go by battle points I would have been 27th! 2nd highest score of the 2-win players, with an army that I thought would struggle with the movement secondaries. I’m definitely still learning and I noticed I keep making positioning mistakes so that I get stuff tagged in combat all the time, so I really have to work on that.
As far as my list goes I am actually really really happy with it, it’s a gunline but it’s so mobile that it is really fun to play. Ground control is a great secondary for me but when I lose a game I score almost nothing for that. I’m gonna be changing some small things but I think I’ll stick to the same core for a while, maybe drop one of the knights in the future but the double Questoris knight is really fun. The Skorpius just do so much every game and the Moiraxes are consistently my MVPs, and if I can stop getting them tagged in combat they will be even better!
Next planned tournament is at the end of April, but I guess with the current situation we shall see if that happens or not!
As always thanks to the TOs at Västerås Wargaming who made it an awesome event, and thanks to all my opponents and everyone else I ended up talking to!

Games of Westeros VIII 40k battle report!
I Have returned! However this is not a X-Wing battle report as I have written before, I stopped playing X-Wing at the start of this year as I was not happy with the state of the game I just lost interest in it. But since I started painting 40k I decided to go for that instead, during this autumn I started playing my first games against friends and really really enjoyed it, so naturally I had to go to a tournament and it was Games of Westeros VIII in Västerås, an 80 player ITC Major. The missions played were ITC 2-6, mission 2 in round 1, mission 3 in round 2... etc...
My list was:
++ Battalion Detachment (Adeptus Mechanicus - Graia) [18 PL, 200pts] ++
+ HQ + Tech-Priest Enginseer [3 PL, 30pts] Tech-Priest Enginseer [3 PL, 30pts]
+ Troops + Skitarii Rangers [4 PL, 50pts] . Skitarii Ranger (Transuranic Arquebus): Transuranic Arquebus Skitarii Rangers [4 PL, 50pts] . Skitarii Ranger (Transuranic Arquebus): Transuranic Arquebus Skitarii Vanguards [4 PL, 40pts]
++ Supreme Command Detachment (Astra Militarum - Tallarn) [62 PL, 1,064pts] ++
Vigilus Defiant [-1CP]: Emperor's Fist Tank Company
+ HQ + Tank Commander [12 PL, 190pts]: Emperor's Fist, Heavy Bolter, Plasma Cannons, Turret-mounted Punisher Gatling Cannon Tank Commander [12 PL, 190pts]: Emperor's Fist, Heavy Bolter, Plasma Cannons, Turret-mounted Demolisher Siege Cannon Tank Commander [12 PL, 192pts]: Emperor's Fist, Heavy Bolter, Plasma Cannons, Battle Cannon
+ Lord of War + Shadowsword [26 PL, 492pts]: Twin heavy bolter . Lascannon & Twin Heavy Bolter Sponson x2
++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Astra Militarum - Tallarn) [42 PL, 4CP, 736pts] ++
Vigilus Defiant [-1CP]: Emperor's Wrath Artillery Company
+ HQ + Company Commander [2 PL, 30pts]: Chainsword, Emperor's Wrath, Laspistol, Warlord Primaris Psyker [2 PL, 46pts]: Force Stave
+ Troops + Infantry Squad [3 PL, 45pts] . Sergeant: Plasma pistol Infantry Squad [3 PL, 40pts] . Sergeant: Laspistol Infantry Squad [3 PL, 40pts] . Sergeant: Laspistol
+ Elites + Astropath [1 PL, 32pts]: Telepathica Stave Bullgryns [13 PL, 252pts] . Bullgryn: Brute Shield x3 . Bullgryn: Slabshield x3 Ministorum Priest [2 PL, 35pts]: Laspistol
+ Heavy Support + Basilisks [13 PL, 216pts]: Emperor's Wrath . Basilisk x2
++ Total: [122 PL, 12CP, 2,000pts] ++
Now I know what you are thinking, a Shadowsword!? Well, I don’t really have any excuse for it other than that I really really like it, I know it’s not super competitive but doing 2d6 damage for every wound that goes through is just really fun! The rest of the list is pretty self explanatory, AdMech battalion for denies and repairs, one gatling tank commander for dealing a bit with hordes, as the rest of my list couldn’t really do that, and I didn’t really need more anti-tank anyway as I had a Shadowsword.
While this list could put out alot of damage what it was lacking was any form of board control, and I knew I was going to be giving up hold more most rounds, but hopefully I could shoot my enemy off the board and win by the end. Going into this tournament I knew I wasn’t bringing the best list but as it was my first tournament I didn’t really mind. My goal going in was to win one game, and I’d be really happy with two. Keep reading to see how it went!
Round 1
Opponent: Christian - Aeldari List: 3x Razorwing, 6x Skyweavers, 3x Talos, 10x Grotesques and a bunch of characters Secondary picks: Gang Busters, Old School, Big Game Hunter
Tumblr media
Christian was part of the 6ROC team, which was the same team that my friend I travelled there was in so I had chatted a bit with him before the event and we got paired for round 1. Looking at his list I really had no idea what would happen as I hadn’t played against Aeldari before, I knew he was gonna flank with planes and move the rest up the centre of the board, lets see how it goes.
We get Search and Destroy deployment so I set all my stuff up in a corner and he sets his stuff up as far forward as he can, I outflank my Demolisher TC
Turn 1: I kill one of his planes with most of my shooting but not much more happens, he kills my skitarii Vanguard.
Turn 2: He moves up and kills both my Tank Commander that were on the board, I bring my Demolisher in and make him fire twice but it completely fails and does no damage to a half health plane, my Shadowsword also does barely any damage to anything, -1 to hit really hurts…
Turn 3: This is when it goes really bad, having not killed nearly enough in the first round he bring basically his entire army into mine, alot of my army dies or gets tied up, in return I do some damage and manage to kill a character at least for the kill point. Basically only my Shadwsword and Demolisher TC are left to do anything at this point.
Turn 4: He puts a whole load of mortal wounds on the Shadowsword and charges it, I use the strat to overwatch on 5s and do decent damage, he ends up killing it in combat, but it explodes! Most of his army is in range at this point so I end up doing alot of damage and killing off a few characters, didn’t matter for the game but I always love a good explosion. My turn 4 the demolisher does a bunch of damage to his multi wound units to at least max my gang busters points
In turn 5 he kills my demolisher and I concede as I couldn’t have gotten any more points
This game was rough, I misjudged how hard the planes were to kill so in hindsight I should have put all my shooting into his melee units, but this was a hard matchup as he had good invulnerable saves on everything and all my high AP didn’t do much. The game was really enjoyable though and as we finished pretty fast we could go grab an early lunch! Loss: 13-38
Round 2
Opponent: Fredrik - Imperial Fists List: 2x Whirlwind, 1x Thunderfire, 6x Centurion Devastator, 6x Intercessor (stalker), 2x Eliminator and some characters. Secondary Picks: Butcher’s Bill, Engineers, Gang Busters
Tumblr media
Another game against a 6ROC member! This time the feared marines, I had played plenty against Raven Guard but not against Imperial Fists but I knew what they could do. Looking at his list I noticed all his scary stuff was 36inch range so I was hoping for a short edge deployment zone, and we got Spearhead Assault! I deployed almost all my stuff in cover and put the Shadowsword so it could see a Whirlwind. I outflank the demolisher and two guard squads.
Turn 1: I kill the Thunderfire with my Basilisks and my tanks pop out and take some potshots onto his infantry and then move back in cover with the Tallarn order. My shadowsword shoots its lascannons and volcano cannon into the Whirlwind it can see but it somehow fails to kill it! This is very unfortunate as it misses me both kill more and a Butcher’s Bill. He kills something in return.
Turn 2: My Demolisher drops in his backline and with the help of the Battle Cannon TC they kill half the Centurions but they roll really well on the return fire with the banner and end up killing the Demolisher in return on his turn. On his turn he moves his centurions a bit further up and brings the Shadowsword down to 7 wounds, he still has very few shots on my other TCs as they keep backing into cover.
Turn 3: The centurions get killed but my Shadowsword gets down to 3 wounds from banner firing, I outflank my guardsmen in his backline, I have no idea why I did this as it just got him kill more. I should have put them down in my backlines instead and just hid them.
Turn 4: Not much happens on this turn, just some back and forth shooting, both of us kill something but neither get Butcher’s
Turn 5: This turn was big for me, he doesn’t manage to kill anything as most of my things are hiding and his scary stuff is mostly dead. I get some kills and get my 3rd Butcher’s Bill point and kill more, at this point my Bullgryn have maxed Engineers too.
Turn 6: I very barely miss my 4th Butcher’s bill point by rolling a 1 on a D3 to kill the last marine in his squad. But he ends up not getting a kill this turn as he just ran everything into hiding to try and deny me points.
So at the end of this match none of us know the result, we just know it’s really close. We count it up and it’s a draw! Very fun game, I definitely got lucky with the deployment zone, but I made some big mistakes too. However this game i really got to see the power of the Tallarn order for Tank Commanders, he very rarely had shots on them as they just popped out and then went back into hiding, and my Enginseers did a great job repairing all the damage they took for overcharging their plasma. Also a draw means i'm guaranteed to not lose every game! Draw: 25-25
Round 3
Opponent: Niklas - Chaos List: Knight Despoiler (2x Gatling), 2x Wardog (Autocannon), 3x Plagueburst, 10x Terminators, Nurgle Daemon Prince and some characters. Secondary Picks: Big Game Hunter, Kingslayer, Engineers
Tumblr media
A knight! Finally something worthy for my Shadowsword to target! This was gonna be a fun game and I felt really good going into it as he basically only had vehicles, and my list deals well with that. We get Front-Line Assault deployment and I spread my things out a bit and Outflank two guard squads and my Demolisher (as usual). I get the +1 to go first, I fail the roll but then I seize! All is right…
Turn 1: Yeah so a Shadowsword is pretty good against knights, but you know when it’s even better? When you can put Vengeance for Cadia on it… Yeah my Shadowsword did 25 damage to his knight turn 1, and he had rotated his shields. He brings it back with a stratagem but then It’s on 1 wound so not really a big threat. The rest of my shooting kills a Plagueburst Crawler and does some damage. His return fire is decent and he managed to kill both basilisks and a vanguard squad that were in the open.
Turn 2: My Arquebus snipers do the first useful thing they have done the whole tournament, one of them rolls a 6 to wound the 1-wound Despoiler so kills it off with a mortal wound, saving me from putting some bigger guns into it. I drop my Demolisher in and it kills another Plagueburst and my other tanks kills a War Dog and the last Plagueburst. I also bring one of my infantry in to try and get the bonus but in his turn he runs the Demon Prince back and charges them. He also drop his terminators in and they shoot some of my Skitarii but fail the charge on some guardsmen.
Turn 3: My demolisher kills the Demon Prince and I kill the remaining War Dog, and start damaging the Terminators but they are (disgustingly) resilient, I charge my Shadowsword into the Terminators to hold them in place, at the end of his turn 3 he had done like 10 damage to the Shadowsword which isn’t too bad.
Turn 4: My Shadowsword back out and I finish off the remaining Terminators
On turn 5 I kill his last guy, but I didn’t know the rule that you get the max 5 points every turn if you table your opponent, oh well.
So this game was pretty brutal, and I would have got even more points in the end if I had known the rules properly. This matchup was pretty ideal for my list, and with Vengeance for Cadia the Shadowsword becomes really brutal. This was another fun game though as my opponent was really chill, funnily enough this was actually my longest game as we just chatted and his friends came over to spectate and had a chat too. Win: 33-16
End of day 1!  Going even on day 1 was way more than I had expected, so I was in a really good mood and looked at the standing and noticed I was 41st out of 80 players, could I get top half? That would be really cool if I could, and I just needed some decent scores and a win and a loss day 2!
Round 4
Opponent: Simon - Imperial Guard List: 2xWyvern, 2xBasilisk, 6x bullgryn, 3x Tank Commander (2 Demolisher, 1 Battle Cannon), 90(!) Guardsmen, some mortars and a few characters. Tanks as Vostroyan and the rest as Catachan. Secondary Picks: Engineers, Reaper, Big Game Hunter
Tumblr media
So a guard vs guard match! Seeing his list I knew it was gonna be pretty hard as he just had so many bodies and I didn’t have a great way to deal with that. Maybe I have a chance on some deployments, but we roll Front-Line Assault, ouch.
Turn 1: I end up going first, but my Shadowsword once again fails a bit and I only kill one of his Demolisher TCs and get the other one down to half. His return fire kills a basilisk and my Battle Cannon commander and he starts moving everything up the board.
Turn 2: My demolisher comes in and kills half his bullgryn, but he had screened well so I couldn’t get a shot on any vehicles. I kill the other demolisher too and some guardsmen. He keeps moving up and kills some of my infantry and my Punisher tank, good choice by him as it was my best way to clear out his infantry.
Turn 3: I blow up his relic cannon and with that his last way to kill my Shadowsword which was still on full health at this point so I start moving the Shadowsword across the board and charge it into infantry. He kills more infantry and ties up my demolisher, on the other side of the board my bullgryn are getting surrounded by infantry.
At this point there’s not much left on the board for me, my bullgryn in one corner fighting off guardsmen, some random characters and my Shadowsword, he won’t be able to kill the Bullgryn but they also won’t get engineers. The rest of the game just consists of my Shadowsword moving up the board eventually getting to and charging his artillery, trying to kill as much as possible. I end up barely missing a maxed reaper but it would not have mattered much.
This game was rough as predicted, killing both the Demolishers turn 1 would have been huge as my Relic tank commander would have lived and been able to pick off his artillery. But this amount of bodies is hard for me to deal with. I also shouldn’t have picked engineers as my bullgryn got swamped to early to max it, if I hadn’t picked I could have run them out and punched some guardsmen. Another good game though against a great opponent with a great looking army! Loss: 25-36
Round 5
Opponent: Linus - Tau List: 3x Riptide, 3x Commander, loads of drones and some characters Secondary Picks: Engineers, Butcher’s Bill, Headhunter
Tumblr media
Tau! Another army I hadn’t played against, but I had a pretty good idea of what they did. I knew this game was gonna be rough going in as my big guns wouldn’t do much until i killed his drones, but at least most of his shooting was super high strength so he might have trouble dealing with all my T8 tanks.
Turn 1: I do a little bit of damage, mostly kill off drones, I get my Butcher’s Bill from his small drone units. He shoots back and kills both my Basilisk, but I am not too sad about this, he runs a character onto the middle objective to get the bonus.
Turn 2: I end up killing enough drones to kill one of the Riptides, this is huge as it is a significant decrease in his shooting. My demolisher drops in and very nearly kills a commander, leaving him on 1 wound. I also drop one guard squad in to charge and contest his backline objective. On his turn he zooms his damaged commander over to kill my warlord and bring the demolisher down to its middle bracket.
Turn 3: My snipers do their second good thing of the game! Another 6 to wound finishes off the damaged Commander, that I otherwise wouldn’t have had a shot on. My punisher lays into the drones and clears almost all of them out. On the other side of the battle my enginseer and some vanguard are having a punching battle against som drones and Fire Warriors to hold an objective, I am winning the fight because of the Vanguard toughness reduction. His return fire blows up my Demolisher and Punisher Tank commanders.
Turn 4: With all his drones dead i put everything from my Shadowsword into one of his 3++ Riptides, but I end up doing 0 damage! Very unfortunate… I kill nothing, but he also kills nothing in return, most of his shooting goes into the bullgryn but they are very hard to kill and a single one survives and it will end up maxing Engineers in the next turn! We are also even on objectives so we both only score Hold in this round.
Turn 5: My Primaris Psykers manages to smite one of the commanders to death as they were really low from overcharging, the rest of my shooting bring the two remaining Riptides down to 1 and 2 wounds, should have focused my fire better but at least they are not very effective anymore. His shooting kills a load of my characters and the bullgryn, and he moves his riptide to contest the middle objective from my Shadowsword, getting him Hold More.
Turn 6: My remaining undamaged Battle Cannon TC moves and tallarn orders itself onto my backfield objective securing me the bonus point, I finish off the two riptides and his remaining commander. He has nothing important left so his turn is just moving some things to objectives.
Phew, this was a tense game, we count together the score. We have the exact same points in primaries, I maxed all my secondaries but as he had nothing left he missed Last Strike for his 4th Old School objective! I win by one point! I think I played this game pretty well with contesting objectives, I should have focused my fire more some of the rounds though. Shooting a volcano cannons just for it to be absorbed by drones is really annoying! Win: 29-28(!)
I Did it! 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw, should put me somewhere right in the middle, but where? As all the games finish I look in the app and I'm 39th! That’s top half, barely, but still! What a great first tournament it was, and I’m incredibly happy getting top half, especially with a Shadowsword.
My list will probably change a fair bit for the next tournament. As fun as a Shadowsword is it just isn’t worth the points sadly. And I really don’t like guard infantry, the Tank Commanders will probably stay however as they are just excellent, we will see what I decide to paint over christmas. Next tournament is still a fair bit away (probably start of march).
I would like to thank all my excellent opponent for 5 very enjoyable games and also Västerås Wargaming for organizing such a good tournament, all the tables and terrain looked awesome and it the whole event went really smooth, 10/10 would go back!
Until next time! Thanks for reading.

X-wing Uppsala Regional
Tumblr media
The now (in)famous “Critter” who earned this paintjob after Copenhagen System Open.
So, the Uppsala Regional, I decided to bring my list from the Copenhagen Hyperspace Qualifier (this one), since it went well there I might as well give it a try here. Let the games begin!
Round 1 Erik Halvarsson Fenn (VI), PS8 Poe (VI), Lowhhrick
Seeing the list it looked like a pretty rough matchup, two ships with higher PS than Kylo and Lowhhrick of course who is just hard to kill. Quickdraw went straight into them with both kylo and “Critter” flanking. After two rounds of firing both Quickdraw and Fenn were dead, and “Critter” died the next round. So now it was Kylo vs a almost full health Lowhhrick and Poe, luckily at this point he called my move wrong with Poe so he ended up being out of combat for a few round which was just enough for Kylo to follow Lowhhrick and kill him, so now it’s Kylo vs a non-regen Poe. I realise I can just joust him and strip all his shields in exchange for one of mine, and soon after I give him PS0, then eventually Kylo brings Poe down with all but 1 shield left.
Win 100-48
Tumblr media
Kylo vs Poe!
Round 2 Dan Stafstedt Fenn, Lothal Rebel
The dreaded list, I don’t know how to beat this but I tried, both Kylo and Quickdraw were shooting Fenn for a few rounds but it took slightly too long to kill him with him rolling alot of natural evades, eventually he dies but at that point it’s only Kylo left on 4 hull, unfortunately I land just at range 2 through a rock from the ghost and he rolls 4 hits and Kylo blanks.
Loss 27-100
Round 3 Hector Krona Ryad (Expertise, x7), Vessery (Expertise, x7), Delta Squadron (x7)
First game of the day where Kylo is higher PS! Still rough with the k-turns but I figured it would be ok. I manage to block his Vesserys K-turn with “Critter” and kill him and after that I get the delta but “Critter” dies for it. Quickdraw doesn’t have any shields left and starts running and takes one damage the following two turns while Kylo only manages to do minor damage to Ryad. Eventually I manage to get Kylo into range 1 behind and do a Segnor’s with Quickdraw and land out of arc of Ryad and blow her up.
Win 100-12
Tumblr media
Landed in front of the defenders but managed to barrel roll here.
Round 4 Roger Mattsson Han (VI), Poe (VI)
Double PS11 ships, an unfortunate matchup, and Han can strip tokens and do major damage. “Critter” went in to distract and did his job, I manage to trap Poe and kill him with Quickdraw on 1 shield and Kylo on 5 health. He went after Kylo and manage to get him down to 1 health but got a blinded in return so Kylo turns in and Quickdraw follows and Han dies.
Win 100-12
Round 5 Patrik Engberg Fenn, Lothal Rebel
Again I face the dreaded ghost, I think I will lose but if I get enough points I still think my MoV is good enough to get a spot in the cut. So the game starts and he runs Fenn pretty far up, and on the first round of combat I manage to get a hit + crit to hit him, so the shield goes and he draws a… Damaged Cockpit! This is huge, Fenn moving at PS0 makes him not very scary at all! I kill Fenn with Kylo still on full health and Quickdraw with a shield left. I start chasing down the ghost and he focuses all his fire on Kylo but he is left on one health, he ejects the shuttle but it doesn’t do anything and I win!
Win 100-12
With Day 1 over I’m very happy, 4-1 means I’m definitely in the cut and I actually end up 2nd place with the leader being undefeated with his Fenn + Lothal list. I think what I take away most from this day though is that a high PS ship isn’t the biggest issue for Kylo as long as you fly him well. So this means guaranteed dice which means I’ll finally have more than 4 regional dice, and a chance at those nice regional templates is cool.
Day 2
Tumblr media
Top 8 Daniel Spahr Nym, Miranda
I felt pretty good going in to this match, knowing that if I trade Quickdraw and “Critter” for Nym Kylo will win the lategame against miranda. The game starts and he uses his Long-range Scanners to target lock both his ships on Kylo, So Kylo plays really cautious and skirts around the edge of the mat while Quickdraw and “Critter” run straight in. It works out as I want it to and Nym, Quickdraw and “Critter” all die in the same turn, so now it’s just a game of Kylo chasing Miranda, he tries his hardest to get a harpoon shot off on Kylo but it doesn’t work, I get Miranda down to 1 hull but then she manages to regen and the game goes on with me playing Kylo very cautiously to not get bombed. Eventually time is called and the game ends with Kylo on 2 hull.
Win 52-48
Top 4 Elis frölen Thweek, Fenn, Bumpmaster
Oh shit I’m in the top 4! And all the other top 4 are part of the Stockholm Wampas so that’s really fun, anyways I face Elis who I have faced countless times at Dragon’s Lair in Stockholm (and usually I lose to him). But this time I had the bid advantage! Elis’ list was a total of 96 points while mine is at 95, so I obviously give him the initiative, “Critter” runs in and dies pretty quickly while Quickdraw and Kylo shoot the bumpmaster which has really good defense dice but eventually goes down, he ends up a bit out of position and can’t punish my ships shooting the bumpaster, now Kylo and Fenn have a duel while Quickdraw and Thweek have a seperate one, Quickdraw and Thweek kill each other on the same round and eventually Kylo manages to kill fenn due to him moving after.
Win 100-48
Final Ola Juhlin Inquisitor, Ryad, Palpshuttle
I’m in the final! And list-wise this looks like a really nice matchup for me as long as I manage to punch some damage through all the evades and palps. He tries to set up a trap and get 3 shots on Kylo but I saw it coming and Kylo does a boost + barrel roll and a 5 forward and dodge the trap, this had put Inquisitor in an awkward position next to a rock so I manage to block his available moves with “Critter” and get a range 1 with Kylo and a Range 2 with Quickdraw, I roll well and he doesn’t and Inquisitor is down. I then start following palp with “Critter” and Quickdraw while Kylo dances around Ryad on another part of the map, eventually Ryad comes back to try and save the shuttle but it is too late and soon it is only Ryad left. Not much more to say at this point but I eventually kill him and win!
Win 100-0
I won! It feels great winning this regional especially as the first x-wing tournament I attended was the Uppsala regional in early 2017 where I went 1-5 (but had a great time), so to now come back a bit more than a year later and take the whole thing feels good. I think what I take away most from the whole tournament is that I have learnt to fly Kylo against ships with higher PS than him which feels good. Now that it went this well with this list I am bringing it to the Krakow system open next weekend so we will see how it goes there!
My two last games were on stream which can be found here.
Listjuggler for the even can be found here.
Tumblr media
Me looking happy.
And last a big thanks to all the organisers for a great event and thanks to all my opponents for giving me eight great matches!

2018 Copenhagen System Open
Tumblr media
So, my first system open. As I live in Stockholm getting down there is pretty easy and cheap so me and two friends went down. I wasn’t quite sure what to fly and ended up using this list. I had had pretty good success with it and variations of it so I thought I might have an ok chance, it turned out it had some pretty big flaws but I’ll go over those later.
Anyways I got down to copenhagen and met up with my friends and had a nice meal and two games of X-Wing, I was hoping for a good result but even if I failed I sort of saw it as a practice System Open before Krakow two weeks later, and besides you get loads of nice loot!
Main Event
(I forgot to write down all the names, so sorry to those I forgot)
Game 1 Phil Gc Guri, Dalan Oberos, Prinze Xizor
This game was very fun, Phil played super well and he seemed to know where I would end up all the time, unfortunately my Quickdraw had a bad roll on his range 1 double tap and I think that was pretty much the game, if I remember correctly he had 2 StarVipers left in the end. Even though I lost it was a super fun game as both of us played very fast and we got alot of rounds in, but I learnt to never underestimate the maneuverability of a PTL StarViper.
Tumblr media
StarVipers are scary in the hands of someone who has flown them alot.
Game 2 Poe Dameron, Dash Rendar
First round of combat I got an ion on poe and all his shields down in exchange for 2 shields from quickdraw, next round I managed to perfectly block his Poe with my gunboat and got a range 1 + target lock with both Quickdraw and Ryad. Quickdraw shoots first and kills him, so he of course shoots back, he manages to roll 3 hits and 1 focus (he still had his focus from last round). Quickdraw blanks. At this point this game was pretty much over as my Ryad doesn’t do enough damage on her own and the gunboat won’t help much, and that was indeed the case, eventually he knocked the stealth device off with the HLC and then did about one damage per turn while not getting shot back.
Game 3 Bo mortensen 4 A-Wings, 3 with PTL + Juke and 1 with PTL + Swarm Leader
Very fun list and looked pretty scary in the first joust, but I managed to survive it with all ships and then chased them down one by one and won it without losing anything. Sadly A-Wings just don’t have enough damage. Awesome paint job by Bo though!
Tumblr media
A-Wings doing their best to run away.
1-2 after the first 3 rounds meant I was out, so time for hangar bay! I only brought one list for this which was this one again maybe not the best list, but it is so much fun to play! Besides it’s hangar bay so I don’t really wanna bring the most competitive list in the world.
Hangar Bay
Game 1 Kylo Ren + 2 Harpoon gunboats
I got to choose the initiative and of course gave it to him, first round of combat his kylo ends up range 1 in front of my TIE Fighter and my Kylo, all 3 with focus. He shoots first and rolls all naturals, I blank and have to blow the title and still end up taking two damage on Kylo. I only do two damage in return. At this point it is obviously looking pretty bad but I don’t remember exactly how it kept going but I think Ryad tanked a Harpoon without taking damage and eventually I chase him down, if I remember correctly I only lose the TIE Fighter in the end.
Game 2 Magnus Olsson Rey, Lowhhrick
This was one of the guys I travelled down with and I had beaten him before so I was feeling sort of confident, It was quite even until I got way too confident and did a stupid move with kylo and ended range 2 of both his ships. I died. Ryad died eventually as well. Well played Magnus!
Game 3 Quickdraw, Countess Ryad (with PTL), Omega Leader
This game worked exactly as I wanted my list to work, my Ryad went in straight at him and didn’t take any damage, meanwhile my TIE Fighter came in to annoy him and Kylo came from behind. Kylo took out Omega Leader really fast and then my Academy Pilot manages to block his ryad several turns in a row, so I kill her and eventually Quickdraw follows.
So I ended 2-1 in hangar bay, and 3-3 overall that day, pretty happy with that and most of the games were very fun, besides I remembered how much I love flying Kylo, but more on that later...
So, regarding my main event list, it struggled with the fact that every good opponent realised they could just go for quickdraw first without getting punished at all, sure Ryad just doesn’t die but she also doesn’t do much damage, and Lone Wolf makes her a pain to fly. So for the hyperspace qualifier I decided two things: 1) I'm REALLY want to fly Kylo more, I haven’t had this much fun since Whisper was good. 2) I’m not flying Lone Wolf in a 3-ship list anymore, It’s way too much effort. So after alot of bad ideas (including Kylo+Ryad with a 16 point bid) I ended up deciding on flying this. I wasn’t expecting of doing super well but even if I lost I would at least have a great time! Hyperspace time!
Hyperspace Qualifier
Game 1 Rasmus Svensson Rear Admiral Chirenau (Adaptability, Palpatine, Kylo), “Blackout”
His highest PS was 9 and I of course got to choose initiative so I gave it to him, He managed to do decent damage at the start but didn’t get the Damaged Cockpit crit on Kylo, so I managed to wear him down and get a few nice blocks with academy pilot in the process.
Win 100-0
Tumblr media
Empire on Empire violence!
Game 2 Jacob Boersma Gunboat (Harpoon), Backdraft (Cruise Missile), Quickdraw (Harpoon)
I Sacrificed the Academy Pilot as a distraction and in the next turn I managed to call his 4 forward to fire the cruise missile and landed right in between Backdraft and the gunboat with my Quickdraw while Kylo was flanking, Backdraft died on this turn and in the rest of the game I did a great job dodging Quickdraw with Kylo, His Quickdraw died and eventually the gunboat as well.
Win 100-12
Game 3 Robert “Tobert” Wagman Ten Numb (Mangler, Bombs, Trajectory Sim), Nym (Bombs, Trajectory Sim, Genius)
This was quite scary as he had 2 PS10s with bombs, which is a problem for Kylo, again this game my Academy Pilot just went in and died as a distraction, meanwhile Quickdraw approach from one direction while kylo came from the other, so he had to choose which to go for, he decided on Kylo. I managed to just fly around and dodge with kylo and put a few damage in while quickdraw was hitting really hard from behind, 1 agility ships take alot of damage. The B-Wing dies first and then I eventually get a Damaged Cockpit on Nym and he dies soon after.
Win 100-12
Game 4 Chopper , Lowhhrick
A really close game, my academy pilot goes in and creates some chaos in the start and even do a few damage to the ghost, Quickdraw does alot of damage on the doubletaps and kylo slowly creeps in from behind. Quickdraw eventually dies to TLT and at that point the ghost has 3 hull left and both Kylo and Lowhhrick is on full. I look at the points and realised I'm 4 above him if the ghost dies, unfortunately this is complicated by a damaged sensor array on Kylo which takes 3 turns to clear, but in that time I manage to do a talon roll and kill the ghost, with only a few minutes left on the time I make a attempt to kill Lowhhrick but realise it’s never gonna happen, but then time is called. Very tense game with some clutch maneuvering, fun!
Win 52-48
Tumblr media
Kylo trying his best to blend in.
Game 5 Lasse Kiilerich 4x Z-95 (Harpoons),  Resistance Bomber (FCS, Targeting Synchronizer)
At this point I was pretty surprised to be undefeated and I fully expected to face the dreaded Fenn + Ghost list, but when I get to my table I see 4 Z-95s and a Resistance Bomber. My first thought is that this should be an easy game but then I look at the list and get worried, there’s alot of damage there. Anyways I manage to approach with all my ships from a different angle so he has to pick one to go for, and as I thought he pick Kylo, he gets hit with one harpoon and next round the guy who fired it goes for a block, which I luckily dodge by a millimeter, and manage to run away. Meanwhile Quickdraw comes in from the side and starts hitting really hard, basically guaranteeing one dead Z per turn if he chooses to fire at Quickdraw. But behind his entire squad, my MVP of the match, the academy pilot. It goes in, blocks and creates chaos, but it also doesn’t roll a single blank for the rest of the game, and almost one crit every turn. I pick of more Zs, Kylo comes back around but I get way too greedy and spend my focus on the attack and ends up dying, but I eventually win and with my opponent only firing one torpedo. I think my Academy Pilot has earned a promotion!
Win 100-47
At this point I unfortunately had to drop to catch a plane home, but I got my shield tokens and had a surprisingly good result so I’m happy! I also really like the list and I will try it next weekend in the Uppsala Regional and if it goes well there I’ll bring it to the Krakow System Open as well!
Here is the List Juggler page for the Hyperspace Qualifier.
And finally some shoutouts! Thanks to Magnus (who beat me in Hangar Bay) and Johan (who flew a ship off the board) for being great travel buddies and to once against having to wait for me in the final rounds of the tournament. Also big thanks to the organisers for a great event and a final shoutout to all the great people I met and played against for making the tournament fun!

Battle Report for X-Wing Regionals Linköping December 9th 2017
Tumblr media
So the first regional of the season was approaching, and I had no idea what to fly, so I decided to go back to what got me good results back in february at TumbaCon - Kylo Ren in a TIE Shuttle! So I ended up running this list. No defensive upgrades on the bomber because all i want him to do is get one or two crits on a ship and then I don’t really care, I haven’t flown Vader much but I figured he’d be good for the guaranteed crit, and putting intensity on him was great fun! Finally to round the list off I put in Quickdraw, just all around a solid ship. In hindsight I think the missile would have been better to have on Quickdraw, but I realised that too close to the event and couldn’t switch lists.
So on our regular thursday x-wing night I played this list and went 1-3, and this was after the list submission deadline so I couldn’t change it, at this point I thought if I get upper half at the regional I would be happy, I wasn’t feeling very confident. But then on the night before the regional we played two practice games at the hotel and I managed to win both! Confidence boosted but I was still unsure, mostly annoyed that I had the harpoon missile on Vader.
Round 1 Danjel Lindén VI Quickdraw, Soontir Fel and Palp Shuttle
So first round, Palp aces and VI on Quickdraw, I knew this was gonna be hard, we set up and he ran his Soontir quite far up so I go a shot on the first round with my Vader, this forced his Soontir to run away from combat and was out for three turns, meanwhile I had turned and gunned for the shuttle, unfortunately in the process my quickdraw lost 3 shields to a range 3 shot, shuttle died and Soontir bumped into my Quickdraw so I got him down to 1 health, but then he did Soontir things and eventually both my ships died.
Loss 29-100
Round 2 Johan Larsson VI missile Quickdraw, VI missile Vader, Palp shuttle
Second round. This looked pretty bad, two high PS aces, both with missiles, I managed to get a decent first appproach, Kyloed a damaged cockpit onto vader and managed to get him down to 1 health, Johan used both his missile and the palp shuttle who was barely in range 3 to kill my quickdraw, next round i managed to kill vader and my bomber got a k-turn in behind the shuttle, my Vader went for the shuttle and his Quickdraw went for my bomber, both died eventually, my bomber took a while to kill because he rolled amazing dice in both defense and offence which he proceeded to do throughout the rest of the tournament. So a PS11 full health Quickdraw (with a damaged cockpit waiting on it for a crit), against my full health Vader. I tried twice to shoot quickdraw but both times he shot first, stripped all my tokens and got some damage in, after the 2nd time i was down to 1 health, so Vader ran, 5 forward with a focusm evade and boost thanks to intensity and he didn’t die. I ended up winning on time and it was a really boring way to win, but I don’t see what I could have done differently, maybe tried to get the crit in on Quickdraw earlier, but a win is a win!
Win 65-58
Tumblr media
Vader thinks he can do something, he can’t
Round 3 Joel Görsch Kylo Ren in the Upsilon with Palp, Countess Ryad, Omega Leader with A Score To Settle
Going in to this I felt pretty confident, the games against normal palp shuttle had been hard, but now I was against a shuttle with more points on it, and the aces were low PS. First approach, Vader flank and quickdraw just runs headfirst into them, Quickdraw takes a hit and a crit but only loses one shield since he got he damaged cockpit from kylo, next round all my ships are behind the upsilon and he never gets a shot again, ryad gets blinded from my own kylo, quickdraw hunts down the shuttle, gets another damaged cockpit and eventually I win the match, barely losing the bomber just at the end, and his OL was still alive.
Win 76-19
Round 4 David Larsson Mauler Mithel, Zeta Leader, Countdown, Ryad with tractor beam
Weird but cool list! I managed to get a good first round, stupidly I used my missile on Countdown forgetting he can cancel it, in my head I thought he cancelled all but one damage, not much to say for the rest of the match, I managed to predict pretty well where he would end up and he didn’t have enough damage to push it through on Vader. In the end Vader had lost 1 shield and my bomber had half health.
Win 100-0
Round 5 Magnus Ekstrand PTL R2D2 PS8 Poe and Expertise Rey
Felt pretty good facing this, I have played against similar lists multiple times at my FLGS and with both being PS8 I have a advantage there as well, Kylo Ren is very good against Rey, I flew pretty well and my bomber rolled amazing dice, when he died Rey only had 1 hull left and died on the turn after, then I managed to kill Poe with a harpoon from Vader followed by my Quickdraw rerolling three focus at range 1 to get a crit, I got it and got the range 1 double tap using my own harpoon, fun way to end the match!
Win 100-19
Round 6 Archibald Zimonyi Triple crackshot X7 Defenders
Oh this list, it went out of fashion but it is still scary, and Archie has flown it alot, both of us knew that whoever wins makes the cut but we had a great game anyway! He went down with all three to kill my bomber (which he did, before the bomber got a shot off), but in return I got a missile on Vessery and managed to kill him the turn after, the rest of the game was a really good dogfight, I did pretty well predicting his moves but defenders are still hard to kill. Both of us had really bad green dice the entire game which made it really fun because everyone got alot of damage in, eventually the game ended when I killed his last defender, at this point both my ships had only 1 hull left!
Win 100-19
Tumblr media
The rest of the Stockholm Wampas holding me up celebrating that I got the cut (and that we won best team and got loads of candy).
Top 8 Mike Howard Double Shadowcaster
I made the cut! At this point I was very excited but also very tired, alot of my matches have been very stressful (in a good way thought). So in this match I made a bunch of mistakes and had no gameplan going in, I did manage to get half health on Ketsu but then I got tractor beamed onto alot of rocks and it was over pretty fast, well flown by Mike!
Loss 26-100
All in all I’m incredibly happy, I started almost exactly a year ago and went 1-5 at a regional in January, since then I have been getting better and better! I think the meta right now is alot of fun, although I did not face the rebel PS10 alpha or any wookies, but being back to flying imperial aces with bombs not being such a big thing anymore is so much fun, I’m putting my scum ships back in a box for a while while I my imperials (Very excited for the TIE Silencer). Next thing happening is the Stockholm Regional at the end of January and after that a bunch of us from Stockholm are going to the Krakow System Open, that’s gonna be very fun!
Here is the List Juggler page if anyone is interested.
Lastly some shoutouts: Thanks to all the opponents and everyone I talked for being so friendly (as always at big x-wing events), thanks to the rest of the Stockholm Wampas for the congratulations when I made the cut.
Huge thanks to David Rydberg for organizing such a great event with the biggest prize table I have ever seen, and running the event all by himself!
Special thanks to Johan Nilsson and Magnus Olsson for driving down, booking a room and staying for my game in the cut so that I could get a ride back home to Stockholm (also good driving Magnus in the sudden snowfall)!
See you next time!

X-wing Store Championship at Dragon’s Lair Stockholm
So today was the 2nd store championship in Stockholm, this one was at Dragon’s Lair and had 40 people signed up (one guy couldn’t make it so we were 39 players). In the previous one I very unexpectedly ended 4th and walked home with a full set of acrylic range rulers, so for this one I didn’t really need the prizes unless I came 2nd or 1st, but I decided to play anyway because X-wing is great!
Sticking with imperials (for now) I ended up flying this list:
Quickdraw (29)
Adaptability (0)
Fire-Control System (2)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Special Ops Training (0)
Colonel Vessery (29)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Ion Cannon (3)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE/D (0)
Omega Leader (21)
Juke (2)
Comm Relay (3)
Total: 99
My plan with this list was just “I want to fly TIE/D with Ion Cannon”, so after experimenting in YASB I ended up with this. The adaptability on Quickdraw ended up working really well with either being able to fly as PS10 or fly all three of my ships at PS8.
Game One
Soontir Fel + Duchess + Quickdraw
This was already an annoying match up as he had the PS advantage, Except for Quickdraw. The setup ended up looking like a joust and I thought this was good for me until I decided that shooting Soontir Fel was a good idea, since I never see him played anymore I had forgotten just how hard he is to kill, in retrospect I probably should just have shot at Quickdraw instead.
In the first round my Quickdraw had lost all his shield while I had only taken one of his Quickdraw. From there I proceeded to bump and generally just fly bad with my ships and lost pretty quickly but Quickdraw did manage to kill Duchess out of his rear arc, so at least I got some points.
Not the best start but it did make me realize how I actually want to fly my list so I wasn’t feeling too bad.
Loss 25-100
Game Two
Contracted Scout x3/torp boats/armed toilet seats/whatever you want to call them
Going into this I was pretty scared, three jumpmasters on the table can really hurt especially if they manage to focus one target. Luckily I managed to get to the asteroid field and that broke his formation a bit.
Vessery hit like a truck but also rolled many blanks on defense and died pretty quickly, but he also did a lot of damage before eventually dying.
In the end after Omega and Quickdraw flew around a bit and whittled away at the jumpmasters (including 2 double shots out of both arcs with quickdraw) it went to time and I had destroyed one of the scouts and gotten half points on the other 2. If I am not misremembering Quickdraw didn’t lose a single shield.
Win 66-40
Tumblr media
Game Three
Moralo Eval (HLC) + Bossk (Mangler)
Seeing a list with this much frontal damage was obviously quite scary, but I also realized that he didn’t have any SLAMs or Engine Upgrades so if I got behind him I would probably win.
I speeded down one side of the board and then moved all my ships in towards him with a large distance between them so that he would have to choose who to go for. He ended up going for Quickdraw but I manage to survive the first two turns of combat with one hull left and dealt a lot of damage to his Bossk. After that turn Quickdraw just sat behind Moralo and never got shot again, both Vessery and Omega did take a few shots but nothing that really threatened them.
Win 100-0
Game Four
Dengar + Tel
Another scary list, it wasn’t exactly like Justin Phua’s worlds winning list, but almost. I ended up getting a pretty good approach and made sure he had to go right and not left, then in the first combat I managed to block Dengar’s move so he landed on a rock. He then lost all his shields without getting to shoot back, and next turn I shot him from behind and eventually he died without getting to fire back much at all. Like the game against triple scouts Vessery ended up dying quickly but did a lot of damage before that.
So now I had Quickdraw and Omega against Tel, I quite quickly got his ability to trigger but then he first rolled two blanks and two focus on his proton torp without having a focus token so Quickdraw survived that on two hull, next turn though he managed to roll three natural hits against Omega Leader who then blanked out and died, but then I turned Quickdraw around and killed him.
Win 100-66
Tumblr media
Game Five
IG-88B + IG-88C
Brobots are scary.
Coming into the match I didn’t really know what to expect as I started playing after brobots were popular and had only played against them once before. We set up in opposite corners and after a few round of maneuvering first combat happened, sadly Quickdraw didn’t have anyone in his arc and I spend a focus on defense only to realise that meant he could shoot back, this time with a target lock. Quickdraw lost all his shields without shooting back.
The next few turns went pretty ok, did a bunch of damage but eventually Quickdraw dropped and after a few more rounds of Vessery ionizing his ships Vessery ended up dying as well. At this point I had a 3 hull Omega Leader against a 2 Hull Aggressor and a 1 Hull Aggressor, I knew it was gonna be hard but at this point i had figured out that the big weakness of the Aggressor is that it just can’t go slow, so I used this to my advantage and managed to basically only be able to be shot by one of them each turn, and I made sure that I had my target lock on that ship. Eventually after some very tense and nervous turns it was down to a 1 hull Aggressor against a 1 hull Omega Leader. Omega leader barreled into range 1, spent his target lock, and managed to blow up the Aggressor. The last few turns of this was just some great and very tense dog fighting and I loved it.
Win 100-73
Ending MoV: 612
Ending score: 4-1
I ended up with 8th place and last of the people who went 4-1 and walked home with a second range 3 acrylic ruler. All in all it was a great tournament and I had a blast!
As for my list it made me realise Omega Leader is still a very strong ship, especially with a TIE/D and a TIE/sf which you can’t ignore, therefore it means Omega Leader gets left until the endgame. The Ion Cannon didn’t really work out at all (I managed to Ion a aggressor twice, but that’s it), if I ran this list again I would probably switch it to a Flechette Cannon instead, drop TIE Mk.II and put Sensor Cluster or Pattern Analyzer on Quickdraw. I have some other ideas for lists though so we’ll see.
Tumblr media
It was a great tournament and thanks to the Stockholm Wampas and especially Johan Nilsson for organizing it!

So I decided to try a gradient, didn’t turn out as smooth as I imagined it but it ended up looking really cool I think! I did some details with Leadbelcher as well and that turned out great, the cockpit especially looks really good with leadbelcher. Leadbelcher best paint.

This was my 3rd and last “spare” ship so it didn’t really matter how it turned out. So I decided to try something a bit different than just changing the colors. I actually finished this yesterday but i had used too much Nuln Oil and drybrushing so I went back and redid it. Really happy with the result!

Another experiment, did the outside using masking tape at first but that created some ugly lines where the paint pooled up, so then i did the inside and redid the outside freehand and it turned out pretty well!

So this is my first repaint, I learnt that Nuln Oil has a really big effect and that drybrushing is real hard! Overall I’m pretty happy with it though, despite a bunch of paint being in the wrong places (including all over my hands).
