Vox, he/him, queer adult. Posts are arbitrarily tagged, often NSFW, and mostly queued. Current fandom is JJK; I'm a top!Yuuji haremist, but I'm mainly into goyuu. My inbox is always open to asks, especially if it's about writing/fanfic. I'm voxofthevoid on Ao3 as well, but the Twitter voxofthevoid is someone else. You can find my list of JJK WIPs here.

This or That
Tagged by @nyaightlight (post here) ❤️
I've tweaked the format a little to make it easier for me to see what I'm selecting. Mobile Tumblr woes.
coffee shop or flower shop
au or fix-it
enemies to lovers or childhood friends
angst or fluff
love at first sight or pining
modern au or historical au
soulmates or unrequited
fake dating or secret dating
break up & make up or proposal & weddings
get together or established relationship
oblivious pining or domestic fluff
hurt/comfort or crack
meet the parents or meet cute
I have Opinions about all these choices but unfortunately not the time to get into it.
Tagging, no pressure, @xxbakacoconutxx @lux-et-tenebrus @cunt-recesses @naelune and anyone else who'd like to do it!

All this discourse over who does "painting with light"
Hiroshi Nagai's paintings need sunglasses to look at.
They look like how it feels to walk across a parking lot on a 98° summer day without a speck of shade in sight.
They look like heaven but also like you'd burn your bare feet on the ground.
Even when you can see shade you know it's not enough and the minute you step out you'll be burnt to a crisp like a vampire.
And it's BEAUTIFUL

Vox I feel like you’ve spoken before about how you’ve been in fandoms where you largely disagree with fanon and where the fandom as a whole is kind of rancid…I was wondering, how do you find friends in the middle of all of that? I’m not exactly in a similar situation in my fandom but a lot of the fic writers write stuff I’m not interested in thematically (or, and I know this sounds insanely douchey TT, write at a quality level I typically like to read) so I can’t even really get into comment sections of most fics to start convos there because I don’t want to be disingenuous…
Idk maybe this is stupid but I’d be grateful for any advice!!
It's not stupid at all! Finding your people in fandom seems to be getting increasingly trickier, at least from what I can tell.
I don't know if I have any solid advice though, since my go-to advice (comment and interact with authors you like) isn't useful to you. Do you write? If so, writing and then seeing if you'll find people you can gel with in your comment section is also an option. Alternatively, make posts on Tumblr about the themes/topics/relationships you enjoy and lure in like-minded people—they usually exist, though fandom size is also a factor.
Most of my fandom friendships have formed via Tumblr or Ao3 regardless of whether the larger fandom is pleasant or rancid. JJK and YoI, for instance, are the two most toxic fandoms I've been in, but I've met and become friends with a large number of wonderful people in both fandoms. If approaching people isn't feasible, give them a reason to approach you.
Thing is though, I'm kind of a hermit in general. Over the years, I've become more and more of one actually. I have very few social media accounts, and Tumblr is the only one I actively use for fandom stuff. I check Reddit intermittently and mostly lurk. I use Discord for DMs, but I've muted all the servers I'm in and no longer join any. However, most of the fandom socialization these days seems to happen on Xitter (and Tiktok for the younger folks) and in Discord servers. So my perspective is also highly limited by the fact that I simply don't engage with a lot of the arenas where fandom communities currently form.
Carving a corner for myself and laying out little breadcrumbs is what works for me, but if you've got more social energy than I do, you'll have more options, even if you're not a fan of what's popular within the fandom.
Good luck!
