invader hunt / true ending post-completion thoughts from the hundred line: last defense academy

just kind of lifted from my thread on disc.

ok killing game "main endings" complete! there are still all of the off shoots but boy howdy.

this one was a really good route overall, and i thin k it balances the theming well, but sometimes it does feel like everyone is punishing takumi a bit too muchh LOL…i do enjoy how pathetic he is in this route because he gets 3 weed smoking girlfriends out of it they do not go back to my brain eating parasite situation from the slasher route but that's fine i guess……………we will be back to it.

the character relationships in invader hunt were all really good and u also go to see natural progression of when the students all make enemies of each other. takumi and takemaru in particular stood out because they were kind of primed to be the friends through fists characters who would have each others back. but in an extreme situation where takemaru is a caretaker of the weak first and foremost and he is at odds with takumi who has shown himself to be quite the exceptional murderer…accepting any form of takumi would be completely against his moral code takemaru protecting the twins throughout the killing game at the cost of his own life was a nice touch, especially with ima acknowledging they really didn't deserve his protection my biggest gripe for this route was everyone saying takumi was a serial killer instead of a murderer because that's different!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there's the issue of MO and timing and consistency!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! smh you kill eito once and suddenly ur ted bundy

i am holding off on cult of takumi / bl route because it is HIS fault that we get on it.

i think yugamu's character dev is so good. he at his core is a romantic torn by his lineage and his heart . it just so happens hes a mad scientist assassin who hides behind the mask of indifference

i don't know what to tell you. this blue haired boy has bewitched me in a way that eito otherwise hasn't. so like 80% of my brain is them two bouncing around like the dvd screensaver logo.

i really was shocked to see him flirt so brazenly. and for everyone to take him at face value.

he also is smart enough to cede the award to hirudaru who also hold my heart in this route.

the lynchpin in the the yugamu and takumi relationship is yugamu opening takumi to the suggestion of allowing eito to come forward in his consciousness after takumi cryptoglobin sucks him twice.

i wish i could say something smart about this but know that i was barking like a dog reading this breakup conversation. takumi ready to abandon yugamu because he thinks that the only reason he is important to him is because of his eito connection but THAT'S NOT TRRUEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

yugamu sees light in takumi. light in a total darkness that he was born and bred in. he sees him diving into danger headfirst, making himself a martyr, his self-flagellation when things don't work--and he thinks that's beautiful.

that's a sort of love he'd be willing to kill for.

but the thing about takumi is that he makes it so easy to think about living. about the future. about what yugamu can make his life out to be after wishing for the end.

he's always wanted his all holy executioner but now he wants to live out the mercy bestowed upon him.

yugamu reminded me a lot of itsuki kagami from norn9. he's my no.1 otome game love interest of all time LOL. they both have a devil may care attiude, a dirty employment (assassin work, sex work), they both have the family members who dictate his life, they both harbor loveless love affairs. and finally they both see a hope of love in someone who initially they didn't want because of the disappointment in their first meetings.

another thing i enjoy is yugamu's relationships with other characters. due to the situations in this route, we got a good focus with kyoshika.

kyoshika is kind of the butt of the LDA2 jokes...but she was serious and sharp witted and still hilarious but at the end of the day yugamu was the one who understood her drive and was able to work with her to achieve her flashy finishing ending move...

a maiden of justice and righteousness in a way that is so different from the other guy who's into that (eito) where kyoshika really is a selfless character vs eito who is self dealing in everything he does

so seeing yugamu take her seriously and really mourn her did wonders for establishing the "lda2 characters all really do care about each other and it's not just because of their shared circumstance"

kyoshika and takumi were also very interesting because after she loses kurara she's very anti takumi but once he saves nozomi she understands that it really. isn't his fault and in her single minded way pledges her sword to her new feudal lord lol. which may seem cheap but it works with her one brain cell existence. she has nozomi and kurara to think and scheme and do all of that heavy lifting.

nozomi kinda fell off in this route. i dont even know where to start with the can of ?????????? that was the eva bit.

and in this i also feel like she became more. nozomi rather than karua so im also curious about the competing interests there . who will get to take over the brain. and clearly in this route they were doing everything to get her out of the picture so u could get tsubasa. lol.

tsubasa really shines in this route (duh) but her heroine powers are off the chart………..she's the sun and everyone else is pulled by her gravity. she's a coward at heart but she understands her fear is something she can turn into strength because her love for those close to her can spur her forward…she's swayed by the crowd but once she has the knowledge that someone can support her no matter what and watch her back…she can make those hard hitting decisions and not feel stuck anymore. they really sold me on the tsubasa/takumi romance (vs darumi/takumi which i didn't buy in on) but i think the killing game poly route is the best aspect for all of them because [1000 pages of yugamu/takumi propaganda which is just Text Lifted From the Fucking Game]

tsubasa stabs the sponsor and immediately yugamu is like if u werent gonna, i was. they're in sync. LOL . she's just tired of people bullying her knight in rotting armor.

i also think the polyend for darumi/tsubasa/takumi/yugamu is SOOOOOOO important to me. it is exactly the sort of fire forged relationship that is born out of tragedy that allows all four characters to grow beyond their limitations.

omokage has his earrings and eyepatch and ring. i think that takumi could wear one of his earrings. and tsubasa could have the other one. darumi can share her earrings between the four of them.

living in a home that's far too expensive and too small for their five part time jobs but they can all crawl into the same bed and share the same couch and heal after the tragedy that happened on the surface. they can lean on each other forever. they don't need to go back anymore.

i think he's such an interesting character because in this route he really goes through the moral dilemma of being a murderer with cause and what the line is for Doing the Right Thing Even If It Means Staining His Hands With Blood.

he spends so much time torturing himself for killing eito (who was innocent) and for "causing everyone else's deaths" but it comes from his desire to be a hero of justice...he has a full blown shirou emiya crashout and it pays off so well because tsubasa refuses to let him wallow in that because it's unproductive and it's stupid.

it emphasizes the bit in retsnom route where darumi is like. "you spend so much time thinking about your feelings when you don't take anyone else's into consideration before making decisions."

this was a good route i think. i once again wish i didn't get slasher first. but it was good bc i got the one i didnt like as much and then two really good ones back to back.

THEN, WE GET TO THE EITO YUGAMU SHOWDOWN OF THE CENTURY.........!

this with yugamu's comment about eito not being cute at all in another route is really funny but i think he still respects him as an assassin to murderer situation but finds it so loveless.

i can talk about eito until the cows come home but this isn't about him.

the overall theming of invader hunt is the nature of sacrifice and how willing u are to go for it. what does it mean. what do u fight for. when do u draw the line. what price are u willing to pay.

is there a future bright enough to mar your day to day?

can you carry that weight?

the bad end requires you to keep killing and ends with you killing everyone because takumi stains his hands with more innocent blood. and he makes a promise he breaks because he wants to live so bad. soosobad but he doesn't have that backbone. that boundary. that price he cannot pay.

versus in the true route where he acknowledges that he killed an innocent eito and got them all into this and that he won't do it again. and he is rewarded for finally crawling out of the cycle of violence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

idk how like. solid it is but the character building that got to this point is really good so like i eat that shit UPPPP. LOL.

final notes: IH was solid. i love survivorcule. i really do think that they ended up finding that house and that yugamu got into med school and darumi got a job as a writer and tsubasa reopened her granpa's shop and that takumi finally found something worth protecting with his life. he's going to work at lawson's until he gets his GED and then he'll do 100 other jobs to get everyone going until yugamu bankrolls them HAHAA.............i'm hurting so bad man.
