opening my horribly outlined google doc notes on vessel and trying to make heads or tails of it. aka deciphering his lore???

vessel has no recollection of who he was prior to sleep. at the start he did , but it got away from him. as part of the exchange. he won't recognize himself in photos or in the mirror ( i think he'd just see a very distorted image or if he recognizes himself it's gone almost instantly. like losing pieces of a dream ). he may still have personal belongings/identification but it won't make sense to him. like if someone said his true name , he'd just hear " vessel " because to a degree sleep is altering the world around him. there is no more REDACTED. the loss of identity is the price of worship

bless sleep or whatever but i do envision him as this parasite that's kind of riding on vessel. i don't want to go full walking corpse but i think vessel reads weird to other superatural beings. maybe possessed? im not convinced he abides by human laws. no requirements to eat or drink or sleep. he only sleeps because it's his method of communication with . . . sleep. in that same vein , id say he definitely exhibits signs of narcolepsy or absence seizures. but most of the time he can feel it coming and can prepare himself to like . . . not pass out and bounce his head off the ground. most of the time.

he experiences the world in a dreamlike state. some days are worse than others. but some days nothing makes sense , like snow in july. auditory or visual hallucinations. but it's just sleep bleeding into the waking world. it got worse the longer they were bonded. but he knows it's his god trying to show him things he wouldn't be able to perceive alone.

mask doesn't come off or it only comes off when he won't be noticed ( anonymous in a crowd type of deal ). like i don't think it can physically come off unless sleep allows it. he's also pretty clean ( doesn't drink , do drugs , sleep around ). which i don't think sleep makes him do , but more of a sign of faith. he doesn't need to explore human pleasures , he's simply there to be a messenger and guide. to be salvation. that's not to say he won't ever do these things but it's carefully considered.

six slits dissect. gray lips peel back , humored. sticks & stones. sleep tugs at his frayed edges. a secret eager to spill into his ear ? stiffles his call – a yawn he forces back down. swimming. indulging his curiosity in a dreamy haze. spindly digits grip the back of a stool , abandoning his beverage on the bar's ledge. body moves , visage does not. boring into the soul. but now that he's gotten closer it's only the lapping of water at the beach's edge. quiet & rhythmic. the tide steady. offering nothing. no secrets housed in a glass bottle.

what has sleep shared with vessel ? * aka a google form you can fill out to shape how vessel may react to your character upon first meeting. this form asks you to detail either : A MEMORY , A DREAM , OR SCATTERED WORDS that sleep has taken from your character's dream(s). a memory could be as sweet as your first kiss with leon or as dark as where leon's body is hidden. a dream can have some truth but is usually altered by something (s) aka you dreamt of your first kiss with leon ( truth ) but instead it was bezel ?? ( wrong this must be a dream with a hint of truth. yes first kiss - but wrong person ) , or scattered words ( just throw shit here. it's supposed to be scrambled and hard for them to decipher ) . note , vessel can not differentiate dream from memory. he simply has pieces of your character that he may feel a certain way towards. to him , dreams are a core part of your character - a potential window to the soul or a different version of yourself. they're a potential hint to who you are. you control how much he knows. * a dream could also be sharing a verse version of your character and i'll just go read your verse page.
