I'm crying at Persona 3 Reload.

They managed to get the entire character of the MC said in less than 1 second of gameplay.

It is midnight, the world has plunged into darkness. Everything has turned an evil shade of green, blood is everywhere.

And other than him checking that his MP3 was okay, he doesn't even blink.

You get control of him, you discover you can look at objects:

He is literally standing in blood. the world is green. he is more interested in a construction site wall.

You go to the next screen, where they introduce the coffins that normal people are in during this time (though he doesn't know this yet)

He does NOT give a FUCK about that coffin. He just wants to know the bookstore hours. Who the FUCK is this man.

God I LOVE the P3 Protagonist.

i’d seen screenshots of the persona threemake (having only ever played p5) and thought, huh, it’s weird they’ve kept the menu icons and text boxes and everything all blocky and blue and PS2-y, it makes it look dated and behind-the-times even though it’s a 2024 release

how fucking wrong i was

it’s so striking and crisp, and bold, now that i’m playing it and diving through it. it’s so extremely 2006 in a good way, like in the 18 years they’ve managed to figure out the aesthetic and bottle it. it’s like, iPod-punk, sony cd player-core. they’ve managed to nail the look of that clean, hospital-y vibe that came just before frutiger aero. fuck man it’s so beautiful

What is this about the tumblr staff wanting to sell art data to midjourney?

An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don't have any more info. They probably won't have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:

I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.

Tumblr's CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and 'AI' companies.

A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data... tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)

So I don't have any extra info yet, but I'm keeping my ears open.

honestly one of the most bizarre things in the world in my opinion is how people can recommend books where one of the key things driving the plot is romance and not mention it. like "oh this sci-fi book is so good", but in reality it's romance sci-fi.
