It’s Just a Sniffle!
A Steven Universe x Connie Maheswaran fanfic
Synopsis: Connie has just been at college for the past three months, and Steven is about to visit her for her winter break. However Connie is hiding something sickly from Steven!
Note: this is my first time ever writing a fanfic, so it’s maybe not great, and probably filled with spelling errors! Just something I did to pass the time while sick in bed. Hope you enjoy, and if you do maybe I’ll write more! Who knows :)
It had been a few months now since Connie left for college at JayHawk University, and Steven had still been on the road, exploring the country and continuing his journey to self-discovery.
Steven was in his car, driving to the CD of his dad’s first album, more excited than ever. This was because he was about to go see his favorite Jam bud, Connie, for the first time since he saw her off for college at Beach City.
Of course, knowing Connie, they had both planned his trip months in advance, to come at the perfect time to see her at the end of her first quarter, for hone first week of winter break. He was so excited for her to show him around campus, take him to her favorite spots, and eat at her favorite restaurants!
Thinking about this got Steven so excited, that he couldn’t help himself from singing along to the chorus of his favorite song,
“LET ME DRIVE MY VAN INTO YOUR HEEARRRRTTTT!!! LET ME DRIVE MY VAN INTO YOUR HEART!!”
He couldn’t wait to see Connie, and he couldn’t wait until he drove up to her dorms tomorrow, with a big grin on her face as she ran up to him. He started to blush at the thought.
As the song ended, he drove into his final pit stop. The last one before he saw Connie tomorrow. It was a Motel just like the one he visited so many years ago with his Dad and Garnet.
He remembered to check for bed bugs this time.
Placing his bags in his room, he finally sprawled out on his bed anxious to finally video call Connie.
He pulled out his phone and the video chat began to ring-
And then the ringing abruptly stopped.
“Huh?” Steven remarked confused, “maybe my cell phone doesn’t have enough service?” He said standing up on the bed, awkwardly trying to reach his phone up high about to call her again.
And then suddenly his phone started to ring, and he had a incoming voice call from Connie.
“CONNIE!!!” Steven blurted as he answered the phone as quickly as he could, “How are you doing??! And why didn’t you pick up my video call? Oh! I know! You’re out and about doing super cool mature college things aren’t you? Don’t want your friends to get jealous of your incredibly handsome boyfriend?”
“Steven!!” Connie laughed, “I know I’m sorry I couldn’t pick up. In all honesty, I’m actually in my dorm right now. Finals really kicked my butt this quarter and as a result I kinda looked like garbage, I was too embarrassed to show you my face haha. Is that silly?”
Connie sounded a little different to Steven than she usually did when they talked on the phone, her voice was more raspy than usual, and much more quiet.
“Awwww Connie!!” Steven frowned, “You know I think you are so beautiful no matter what state you’re in! I’ve seen you after we fought some galactic wars remember? You’ve looked beautiful to me then and I’m sure you look just as beautiful now!!”
“Geez Steven, you’re embarrassing me!!” Connie said coyly. He could practically hear her blushing through the phone. “So what’s up? Are you excited to finally get to see me at the famous JayHawk University?”
“You bet I am!!” exclaimed Steven, “I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it all week!”
“Aw that’s nice! I couldn’t stop thinking about it either.” Connie forced, a bit quietly
Steven knew when Connie sounded excited, and from her voice he could tell something was a little off.
“Connie? Are you alright? You sound a little different.”
“A little different? How so?” Connie coughed out away from her phone mic.
“I don’t know, your voice sounds raspy, you coughed just now, you’re more quiet than usual, it’s almost as if…” Steven gasped at the realization.
Connie then sneezed loudly.
“It’s almost as if you’re SICK!!!” Steven exclaimed.
Panic started to arise through Steven.
“Oh no Connie! Are you ok?! Do you need me to come over and take care of you? I could drive the rest of the night to get to you! I could make you soup-“
“Steven…”
“I mean I practically don’t need to sleep! I’m half gem right?! And I could get to you before you know it!-“
“Steven!!” Connie interrupted, “I appreciate your concern, but I’m really fine! Really! It’s just a sniffle!”
Steven paused, his eyes squint, trying to smell out the suspicion in this silence.
“Reeeeeeaaalllyyyyy?” Steven said unconvinced.
“Yes! Really!” Connie said, trying to fake confidence, “I think my body is just tired from being burnt out these past two weeks from cramming for all these tests! Once I rest up today, I will be fully 100% by tomorrow!”
Steven paused again.
“Are you sure?” Asked Steven
“Yes” answered Connie
“Super jam bud extra sure?”
“It’s a triple berry promise sir!”
“Wow, a triple berry promise! Strawberry, raspberry AND blackberry? Then you must know what you’re talking about”
“Yes, and also because my mom is also a doctor Steven”
“Well I was a doctor once too ya know!”
“Steven, your duty as a doctor only included licking gems”
“Hmmm, I guess you have a point” Steven remarked. The pair laughed over the phone.
“Gosh, I missed you so much Connie, so much more than you could know” said Steven.
“You too jam bud” Connie sighed
“Well, I’ll see you tomorrow, and until then I order you to do nothing but rest!” Steven remarked in a goofy sergeant voice.
“Like I said Steven, it’s nothing serious! But yes sir, I will follow your orders aye aye!” Connie said, saluting the air
“Good! Well I’m excited to see you tomorrow.”
“Me too Steven”
“Hey Connie?”
“Yeah?”
“Love you jam bud”
“I love you too Steven”
And after that he hung up the phone. He layed on the bed, worried about how Connie sounded on the phone tonight. Decided to trust her judgement.
It’s the next morning, and Steven is driving up to Connie’s dorm building, so excited to see her.
“Hello!” Steven says, walking up to the front desk, run by another student, “My name is Steven, and I’m here to see Connie Maheswaran!”
The student at the front desk took at moment to look at Steven, and then their eyes lit up.
“Oh so you’re Connie’s Steven! It’s so nice to meet you! I’m Sonia. Connie has told us so much about you. Here! This is a keypad so you can get to her dorm on floor three” Sonia handed over a key to Steven with plushie JayHawk mascots on it.
“Gee thanks!” Steven responded, somewhat embarrassed that he already had a reputation, “welp, I’m off to see Connie!”
“Have fun!” Sonia waved goodbye.
Steven found his way in front of Connie’s dorm room, and was somewhat scared to knock. He wasn’t sure why. He missed Connie so much! He wanted to see her so badly, but must’ve been nervous about how they both might have changed since they last saw each-other. He know how big a deal College can be, and how it can change people.
But then, he let out a deep breath, and reminded himself how change was a core part of the beauty of this earth, and not something to be afraid of.
He mustered up the courage to lift his hand and finally gave a door a few knocks.
He heard some groans, and rustling from the other side of the door.
The door started to slowly crack open. He could only make out a dark room inside, with a large dark silhouetted figure peeping out the door.
Nervous he might have knocked on the wrong door, he asked, “Connie…?”
The door opened some more to reveal a face, Connie’s face, crying wrapped in a huge blanket with snot coming out her nose,
“STEVEN!!” Connie exclaimed, throwing the blanket off her and into Steven’s arms.
“Connie?? Connie!!” Steven said worried, “what is wrong?? Why are you crying??”
He pulled her back from his chest to see her face, tears streaming down her eyes.
“I’m SICK!” Connie bawled stuffing her face back into his chest again.
“Woah woah woah!” said Steven, “let’s calm down and go inside!”
With Connie still wrapped in his arms, they took a few steps into the room and closed the door behind them. Steven then proceeded to pick her up in his arms, and put her on the bed in the corner of her very small room.
“Hey hey what’s up? What happened? You’re saying that you’re sick? What happened to saying you had just a sniffle last night?” He soothed her, rubbing his hand on her back as they sat next to eachother on the bed.
“That’s what I thought!!” Said Connie, trying to breathe in between sobs and violent sniffs, her face in her hands “but then I couldn’t sleep at all last night, and my fever started to rise, and now I have a splitting headache, I’m completely congested, and now you’re here!” She started to sob again, “and I feel so terrible because I can’t give you the week that we worked so hard to plan in advance because my stupid body had to get SICK!!” She said as she started to cry into Steven.
“There there” said Steven patting her on the back, “let it all out”
Connie blew her nose violently into a tissue and threw it into a growing pile in her waste basket.
“First of all,” Steven started, “your body is not stupid. I very much like my girlfriends body in fact, I prefer if you did not try to slander it so.”
Connie giggled while recovering from her tears and sobs.
“Secondly, you were worried about being sick because you were afraid on letting me down this week?”
“Yeah” Connie nodded looking away, “I felt terrible because we’ve planned this trip for so long, and I wanted to show you so many things, but now I’m sick and I can barely get out of bed. I just feel so bad about disappointing you. You sounded so excited last night on the phone, I couldn’t bring it up.”
“Connie…” Steven said putting his hand on her face tilting her his way to meet his soft eyes. “Spending time with you could never be a disappointment.”
Tears started to well up in her eyes again. She put her hand on top of his.
“I know that, and I know my brain was just being irrational, but I just wanted to give you the week that you deserved.”
“Connie, sorry to be so frank, but screw what you think I deserve” Connie looked at him shocked for a moment, “This is what I want.” Steven said, bringing down their joined hands from her cheek into the middle of her lap. “All of you, the ups and downs, the healthy days, the sick days, everything. Don’t feel like you ever need to hide from me. We’re a team remember?”
Connie in this moment felt utterly and completely happy, despite feeling like garbage from being sick.
“Yeah, thanks Steven, same goes to you”
They embraced, finally both calm and in each others presence and for a long moment soaking up being in each others arms.
“And besides!” Steven pulled back, “there’s no sickness that a little Steven soup can fix!” He said rolling up his sleeves.
“Haha you’re right!” Connie giggled, “I definitely didn’t put that into consideration”
Steven and Connie talked into the night as they ate their soup, as she told Steven about what she learned in her classes, and he told her what he had seen on the road trip adventure so far.
Finally as their energy started to wind down, Steven and Connie put on one of their classic comfort movies, the first adaptation of the Unfamiliar Familiars franchise.
They started to settle into bed as the opening credits started to play.
“Thanks so much for this Steven” Connie yawned, “this was just what the doctor had ordered”
“Of course Connie, anytime” Steven smiled, putting his arm around her
Then he made a sudden realization.
“Connie!!” Steven gasped
“What??” Connie looked at Steven, started
“I haven’t kissed you yet since I’ve arrived!!”
“Oh Steven, you don’t want to kiss me, I’m congested and filled with snot, it would be gross”
“Pleeeeeeaseeeeeee??” Steven said flirtatiously, trying to move his cartoonish puckered lips toward Connie, hands clasped romantically to his side.
“Haha ew no Steven!! I’m doing this for your own good!!” Connie giggled, pushing his face away
“Awww Connie, c’mon, you’re saying I shouldn’t kiss you??”
“Haha yes Steven!” Connie laughed and coughed, ”You would find it gross!!”
“Ok, whatever you want…” Steven said defeated, somewhat quiet, trying to hide his disappointment.
And then they both took a pause.
And looked each-other in the eye.
And they both exclaimed,
“HOLD ON A SECOND!! HEALING POWERS!!!!”
And in the most clumsy, uncoordinated, and rushed way, they both crushed their lips into eachother, giggling in between kisses, knocking their teeth smiling excitedly from their revelation.
Once they finally pulled apart Connie stood up in excitement and sparkled pink for a second.
“YES!!! I FINALLY FEEL BETTER!!!” Connie said looking down at herself, arms wide
“WOHHOOOO!!!!” Steven fist pumped the air
Connie jumped onto Steven bringing their faces together, laughing.
“I can’t believe we didn’t think of that sooner!! Man it’s really been a while since we’ve seen eachother. Now we can do all the things we originally planned!!!”
Steven giggled back, “I’m just glad you’re feeling better.”
Steven sneezed suddenly.
“Oh no!! Steven!! I got you sick!!” Connie frowned, worried.
“Haha don’t worry Connie” Steven laughed, “it’s just a sniffle”

Pros and Cons
Set between the movie and the start of Future because you can’t convince me these kids weren’t dating the whole time and we deserve to see more schmaltz from Steven. Wrote this on mobile, so I’ll fix all spelling and formatting things later. Enjoy!

“Connie, Steven is here!” Called Dr. Maheswaran to her daughter, who hardly needed to be told since she was already bolting down the stairs at full speed.
“Bye mom!” Called the girl as she rushed passed her out the door.
“Be back by 10!” Her mother called after in a stern voice, though small smile found its way onto her face as she slowly closed the door, happy to see Connie so happy.
“Hey Connie!” Exclaimed Steven, grinning ear to ear once she entered his sight.
“Steven!” She sang as she ran to him, leaping to tackle him with a big hug. Steven returned the embrace and the pair laughed. “I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever!”
It had only been a few days. “I got you something,” he said, presenting a bouquet of flowers to her. A collection a vivid blue flowers, tied together with a matching bow, everything carefully selected and presented to be picture perfect.

You?! - Part 4 (Rafe Adler)
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

I appreciate the love, you guys!

The sound of gunshots fade as we finish fighting off another herd of Shoreliners.
My body feels stiff than it was ten years ago, when I was younger and more flexible; but dumber and more naive. I roll my aching shoulders as we enter the jeep and continue driving towards the volcano.
“Need a massage?” Sam asks from his seat behind me, placing his hands on my shoulders and lightly massaging them.
I rest my head back as I start to feel relaxed, slumping my shoulders down, but it’s taken me a second to realize what he’s trying to do. “Hey—no—wait—! Sit back down, mister!” I scold at Sam who raises his hands in a surrender, laughing with Nate and Sully while sitting down in his seat. I blush lightly and look at the safari as we drive.
“I was only being nice.” He chuckles and I roll my eyes.
Yeah, right.
For the rest of the ride, the boys stayed quiet except for the occasional remarks on the wildlife from Sam while I rest my sore neck. Sam is clearly seen in my rear-view mirror and I take a quick glance, seeing the wind blows against his hair; the sun shining down on his face like the heavens knew the perfection they’ve created.
“Are you gonna explain about Rafe?” Nate takes my out of my thoughts and I turn to see him side-glancing from the steering wheel.
Shit. What do I say?
“Is he abusive? I mean, the way he talked to you—”
I cut Sam short, not wanting to visit the memories again. “He’s changed. We’re fine.”
He shifts in his seat, moving closer to me. “You sure? I mean, you deserve better than—”
“Sam!” I cut him again, “we’re fine…”
He mumbles under his breath as I look away, resting my elbow on the door with a hand on my forehead.
Are we really fine?
I remember the living room would be filled with yells and accusations. “Are you cheating on me?” Rafe yelled at me when I came home late once.
His accusation had caused me to stop in my tracks for a bit, staring at him. “What? No! I had to work late today!” I told him, placing my bag down on the couch. He grabbed my arm and forced me to look at him, his eyebrows knit and his jaw clenched.
“Don’t lie to me!”
By this point, I was getting tired by those accusations so I pulled my arm back and slapped him. “If you don’t trust me, Rafe, I don’t think we should be together!”
A few weeks before this, I talked to my mother about the relationship Rafe and I were having and I took into consideration of what my mom said: if our relationship is based on negativity, it’s not a relationship worth staying. So, I decided to leave for the better… For my mental state and my health.
The jeep stops to a halt and I look ahead to see a worn-down building towering over us.
We all jump out of the jeep and walk up the stairs, looking around the place for an entrance. Nate throws a dynamite on a wooden door and it explodes, giving us an entrance. We walk in, seeing stairs that lead us under and go through countless doors until a stone cross appears ahead of us.
“Ah, Saint Dismas, we meet again.” Nate says as we all approach it. Under the cross, there is what looks like a map carved in stone, twelve sigils of the pirates (as what Nate explained to me on the plane) scattered around.
The brothers touch the cross, thinking that it might lead to something but I stand behind with Sully.
The ends of my lips raise to a smile as I look at them. “Idiots,” I mutter under my breath. “It’s a map.”
Sully chuckles, nodding at me. “Boys,” he takes their attention. “When you’re done pestering the poor Saint, come look at this.”
They look at each other with eyebrows raised and stand back with us.
“What we have here is a map.” I tell them, crossing my arms and looking at Sam with a smile on my face.
“They could be towers.” Nate says, walking closer to it. We walk towards the map, but a sound of crumpling paper catches my attention and I bend down to pick up the paper seeing X marks exactly where the sigils are placed.
“Guys, come look at this.” They gather themselves around me and when Sam sees it, he rubs his face and exhales sharply.
“We’re fucking screwed.” He sighs, shaking his head.
Nate looks back at the stone map and takes out the coin we took from the cave in Scotland, placing it beside the sigils. I tilt my head as I look at him.
Sam continues with his drama-moment. “There’s three of us and God knows how many of them.”
I shake my head as I walk over to Nate, keeping my distance from Sam in hopes to not explode on him.
“Yeah, but they don’t know which tower to go to yet.” He says, placing the coin next to a Trident sigil, looking exactly like in the coin. Nate and I smile at each other, celebrating in the inside that we might be getting to the end on this hunt.
“That’s great, Nathan, but—”
“Oh my God, could you be quiet for once?” I snap and that created a still silence around the room. Sully clears his throat and everyone comes back to motion.
Nate looks away from me and looks back at the coin. “Look, it’s a little worn-down, but we have a match.” He points at the Trident sigil.
“Are you sure? Because, I mean, it could be this one too.” Sam directs on a Libra sigil, looking like the Trident upside-down and Nate curses under his breath.
“Two is better than twelve,” I mention, starting to walk towards the way we came in. “Let’s go.”
Sam takes my hand, dragging me back to them. “Hold on there, tiger, I think it’s faster if we split up.”
I look at Nate and he smirks at us, looking back at Sully who seems to know exactly what he’s thinking.
“What?” I demand.
“You two take the Trident tower—Sully and I will take the other.” He walks away to Sully who laughs with him and I realize the game that he’s playing with us.
“Wait, Nate—!”
“Have fun, kids!” Sully chuckles along with Nate, walking farther from Sam and me.
Asswipe.
- - - - -
The air between Sam and I feels like it changed; being around him now, with the silence in the air, I can’t help but blush just by glancing at him. We have been quiet since we entered the jeep, seeming like both us didn’t dare to say anything.
“Why do you think Nate decided to put us together?” He finally asks and I look at him to see a hint of pink on his cheeks.
I clear my throat and shift in my seat. “I don’t know… Maybe he’s more comfortable with Sullivan?”
He scoffs, taking a turn and we start to enter the little town. “I’m his big brother. As far as I know, he’s more comfortable with me than anyone else.”
“But you haven’t been present for fifteen years, Sam.”
“What is that to do with anything?”
Seeing his little outburst, I sigh and cross my legs, letting him vent to me. “I know I haven’t been there for him for fifteen years and I might not have been the best brother, but that’s no excuse for him to go with Victor instead of me.” He groans, shaking his head. “Sorry for being tense, I’m—”
“Sam…” I look at him and he glances at me. “It’s okay… I understand…”
The tips of his lips twitches to a smile. “Thanks… Listen, I don’t want to send the wrong message. I do like being around you.”
I laugh, tilting my head. “And why is that?”
“You have this… Vibe around you that I can be comfortable with…” He laughs at himself. “Since I was sixteen, I never really liked strangers.”
That statement made me laugh, “You didn’t seem like that when you tried to flirt with me the first time we met.”
He smiles sheepishly, shrugging his shoulders.
I look away from him and onto the road ahead of us, starting to approach the tower. My heart jumps out of my chest once I see Shoreline men entering a jeep and driving away.
Sam curses under his breath as he saw them, parking the jeep in front of the tower.
“We’re already late.” Sam grunts, opening the door for me to enter, but everything in my body stops once I see Rafe leaning idly onto a table, the light reflecting on his jet black hair.
“Look who decided to join the party.” He chuckles and I feel a tight grab around my waist, pulling me onto a chair and tying me up with Sam beside me.
This sudden action makes my temples pound. “What the fuck, Rafe?!” I spit at him as he leans down to look at me in the eyes. “I’m your fiancée and this is how you fucking treat me?!”
I twist and turn in hopes to set myself free, but tears form in my eyes to find no luck. My heart aches in my chest as I find my ring finger empty, tending to twist my ring for comfort—a habit that I wish will stop.
Rafe has his back turned to us, talking to Nadine who has her arms crossed and nodding her head. “So,” Rafe turns back to us, rubbing his hands together. “My dear, you betrayed me—again.”
I clench my jaw, “It’s starting to feel like a better idea.”
Rafe walks closer and stops right in front of me, kneeling on one knee for eye-level. “You think so?” He grins, strands of his hair falling down his face.
“With you treating me like this? I’m damn sure it’s better.”
He raises his palm and slaps me across the face, my cheek stinging and the sound travels around the tower.
I keep my head to the side, staring the the floor—not daring to look at Rafe anymore.
“I’m sorry… I’ll change…” Rafe said with flowers in his hands, tears glossing his eyes as he begged for me to stay. I knew deep down in my gut that it was a bad idea, but there was just something inside me that told me to give it a shot. Now, I curse myself with my whole heart for listening to that little voice that made me go back to him.
Sam calls my name, breaking me from my thoughts but Rafe orders his men to tape his mouth.
“You’re going back home, sweetheart,” he places a hand on my cheek to look at him. As I stare into his eyes, I’m no longer looking at my husband-to-be but a… Stranger…
A soft smile forms on his lips as he wipes away the tears that are falling. “Don’t cry, darling, you’re just in a big mix-up.”
He slowly raises up and orders a man to set me free. My hands tingle as I feel the blood start rushing back and I’m forced to stand. Looking at the pistol on Sam’s holster, I feel a rapid beating up my throat and I react immediately—taking the gun and pointing it at Rafe.
The room starts spinning as the sound of the pistol bounces around the room and Rafe grunts as he touches his shoulder, blood gushing out.
Shoreline men starts aiming their weapons at me and I drop the pistol on the floor, raising my hands up.
What the fuck have I done…

Facing the Past - Chapter 11 (Sam Drake x Reader)
Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Chapter 5 - Chapter 6 - Chapter 7 - Chapter 8 - Chapter 9 - Chapter10
Before you read this chapter, I just want to say that I’m an awful person :D
A few seconds after you and your father left the kitchen, Murphy got up and stormed over to Sam.
„You son of a bitch!” – he roared as he grabbed Sam by the collar of his shirt and pulled him up from his seat.
„Whoa!” – Nick exclaimed as he put his arms around Murphy to pull him away from Sam.
„Hey man, what the hell?!” – Antonio stood between the two men, so Murphy couldn’t reach Sam again.
„What did you do to her?!” – Murphy shouted outraged. – „You said something to her, didn’t you? That’s why she hates me! You turned her against me!”
„What the hell are you talking about?” – Sam asked him shocked.
„You know damn well what I’m talking about, you lying piece of shit!”

If there had been any other event in your life that would come up to par with the reappearance of your so-called “teenage sweetheart,” you would be incredibly impressed.
Yet here you are, shamelessly lifted into his strong arms as he stumbles through the door of your hotel room and as you smile into his kiss. He pulls away briefly to kick the door shut, keeping a firm grip on you before he promptly rushes over to pin you down on the bed.

“Friendly Neighborhood Watch” | Young Sam x Reader | FLUFF
WARNINGS: suggestive, language
WORD COUNT: 6,485
DESCRIPTION: There are four days left of school before Graduation Day. It’s so goddamn obvious you and your childhood best friend Samuel Drake feel the same thing for each other… but you won’t say anything because you don’t want to risk your established friendship, and Sam doesn’t want to say anything because he can’t risk giving himself away. But when two people are a perfect match for each other, some things are bound to be revealed sooner or later.
This is technically Part 2 of “Trick of the Light”, but you don’t have to read that in order to understand this (regardless I’ll still leave the link to it below). I’m really pleased with how this one came out because it just makes my heart so happy like aw Sam :,)) It switches between Reader and Samuel so sorry if it’s kinda unclear as to whose POV you’re reading from haha *sweats intensely*
And I also wanna tag @le-ephemere @hyperionbabe @a-n-g-e-l-frommynightmare and @nataliarmnov because you guys are SO NICE and left such sweet comments on Part 1 ily please enjoy
Trick of the Light
Inspired by this song (Rather Be With You - Sinead Harnett)
The only reason why you were with Rafe Adler in the first place was because you were lonely.
Well, more like the one guy you were ever seriously in to never paid attention to you the way you wanted him to, and conveniently, Rafe Adler transferred to your shithole high school and you thought he’d be a lovely distraction.
Except that, despite getting together with Rafe, you still couldn’t get over your one true crush.
The boy next door, your childhood sweetheart, your best friend: Samuel Drake.
You remember precisely when you started crushing hard on that boy. You were in middle school, still in your semi-awkward tween stage, lost in the masses of equally confused prepubescent boys and girls trying to find their places in the social hierarchy. Sam was one of the popular kids; he and his little brother were both notorious for their mischievous methods of cutting class and their bright, cheeky grins. Always the one with extravagant (although mostly exaggerated) tales of adventures, it was expected for girls and boys to flock around Samuel Drake. His heady Bostonian voice and loopy grin managed to light up any room he walked into; Samuel Drake had this laid-back, passionate, and approachable dynamic.
And on top of that… it was almost painful how good-looking he was.

“Trick of the Light” | Young Sam x Reader | NSFW
WARNINGS: nsfw, language
WORD COUNT: 1,985
DESCRIPTION: Samuel Drake has always had a crush on you. It’s not that hard, especially since you two live right next door, you’re the prettiest thing he’s ever laid eyes on, and you two have been best friends since birth. But you don’t know this, or at least Sam doesn’t think you know this… until one night when he comes home late from work, unaware of a moonlit surprise.
This is an AU! Sam lives an ordinary teenage life and you live an ordinary teenage life. I might follow up with a Part 2 depending on how well this is received; I’m trying out a new writing style with this one.
**EDIT: I did follow up with a Part 2 - “Friendly Neighborhood Watch”! Well, sort of; technically it can be read on its own. I leave a link to it below :)
Inspired by this song (The Less I Know The Better - Tame Impala)
Friendly Neighborhood Watch
Samuel knew the girl next door, Y/N, for as long as he could remember.
As a kid, he ran the neighborhood playing street hockey with her, went to the same public schools with her, threw paper airplanes through the window at her, spent countless late nights studying history with her… they were the best of best friends, woven together by a net of time and proximity.
It wasn’t until late sophomore year things started to change.
Her hair was longer now; he noticed the slender curve of her neck and how dainty it was whenever she tossed her locks over her shoulder. The way she smiled with the corner of her lips and let her long bangs fall in her easy eyes was eternally frustrating and made him want to tuck her hair behind her ears. Her legs, last time he remembered (actually, did he even pay attention before?) were lanky, but now suddenly they were tall and smooth, and he got the sudden urge to look away whenever she crossed them in her seat. She started wearing this silver pendant at her throat, and when it glittered, his eyes were drawn to it, and then to the swell of her breasts where the gem cushioned just in between. Looking at her was like watching a butterfly break from its cocoon.
And damn, was she a pretty one.

Your Song Pt. 1 (Sam Drake X Reader)
A/N : Alrighty, so I’ve been thirsting for Sam Drake for quite a while now and finally decided to write something with him. It’s called your song bc it was inspired to me by Elton John’s “Your Song”. It’s gonna be a 2 parter (I think…pretty sure) so there will be a second update at a later time. Also it’s pretty long so that’s why I decided to separate it into parts. Anyways hope you guys enjoy and yeah just let me know what you think :)
@emiliasuncharted ~ I finally did it! Hope you enjoy <3
Your Song Pt . 4360 words.
One false move was all it took. One false move and he was caught. Not that it rarely happens, yet it doesn’t always happen, but what matters now is he’s running. He takes a quick glance behind his shoulder and sees that the store owner is only a few feet behind him. The sight alone serves as an incentive to increase his speed, ignoring the burning sensation now coursing through his legs.
“Man, this guy is quicker than he looks,” the boy grits through his teeth, ignoring the Spanish profanities being shouted at him.
As nears the end of the street he takes a quick mental pause to decide his next move. On the left is a long empty road with nothing but street lights illuminating the street for any oncoming cars. Meanwhile, on the right, he sees a neighborhood of houses. Long road means no hiding spots and more running. At least with the houses he decides he can hide inside one for a bit if he can find an empty one. Still risky, but better than endless running. Immediately, and a little reluctantly, he runs towards the direction of the houses and scans the area for an empty home. He spots a house with no lights turned on, nor any cars in the driveway, and promptly runs to try to sneak inside. Luckily, he finds an easily accessible window and wastes no time in climbing to it. Once he reaches the windowsill he thanks his lucky stars as it slides it up with no hassle before swiftly tossing himself inside the room. The boy composes himself and hides behind the windowsill as he watches his pursuer, bat still firmly gripped in hand, run straight past his newfound temporary sanctuary.
A sigh of relief escapes the boy’s lips as he tosses his backpack to the side, leans on a nearby wall, and begins to slump down to the floor. He rests his elbows atop of his knees as he uses his right hand to rub at his temples. It was definitely a quick and successful escape but it was also lucky and he knows it.
“That really was a close one,” he mumbles to himself.
Slowly, as if coming to a realization, he brings his head up to observe the room he had broken into.  After a brief scan, with limited moonlight as a light source, he concludes it’s a girl’s room. Across from his spot on the floor, he sees a white vanity with perfumes, lotions, hair pins and a hair brush lazily placed near the edge. Taped to the vanity mirror he notices a photograph and stands up from the floor to take a closer look. Taking the photograph into his hands, he sees a girl and a boy awkwardly standing next to each other. From the side by side comparison, he notes that she’s much shorter than the boy in the photograph and must be a few years younger as well.
“This must be her room. Looks about my age…wonder what’s the relationship here,” he thinks out loud.
He keeps observing the photo until his eyes land on hers and he duly notes their attraction.
“Hmph, pretty eyes.”
After briefly studying the photograph he tapes it back to the vanity mirror and turns his attention
back to the room. As he surveys the room he takes note of the many contents within it and realizes that it’s actually quite a spacious room. It has a wide comfy looking bed with messy sheets, a neat nightstand, and a large desk. However, what truly captures his attention is the loaded bookcase across from the bed. He begins to walk towards it yet when he nears the bookcase he steps on something and very nearly trips onto the ground. He picks up the item and brings it towards the moonlight to see what almost tripped him. As soon as the light touches the item the ends of his lips curve into a grin. It’s a bra.
Before he can even discard the object back to where he found it, the door to the bedroom swings open and in enters the girl from the photograph.
She gasps as soon and she sees the boy and drops her book and flashlight in surprise.
The boy immediately drops the bra back onto the floor, “This isn’t what it looks like! Please don’t call the cops!” he puts his hands up demonstrating he means no harm.
“Isn’t what it looks like?? Why are you in my room, how’d you even get in and why the hell were you holding my bra?!” she demands.
“First, it’s a long story and second, I actually almost tripped and died on it so I just picked it up to see what it was that almost killed me,” he exaggerated. “Why was it on the floor anyway? Thought girls were supposed to more organized.”
”Excuse me? First, organization does not apply to everything we do just as stereotypes don’t apply to every person. Second, had I known some random guy was gonna break into my room I’ve would’ve littered the floor with deathtraps instead of bras!” she yells .“Anyway, you’re in no position to ask me any questions, especially when you still didn’t answer mine. Why the hell are you in my room and give me one good reason why I shouldn’t call the cops.”
“Alright, just calm down and I’ll tell you,” he gives in as he slowly brings down his hands and shifts in his stance. “I went to this store to get some food for me and my brother but I didn’t exactly have enough to pay for the food. I asked the owner if I could take out a tab or something and promised to pay him back but he wouldn’t budge. Eventually, I just paid for the stuff I could afford and put the rest of the stuff in my backpack when he wasn’t looking, or at least I thought he wasn’t looking, and then I got the hell out of there. The guy saw me and chased me for at least 5 blocks, with a bat mind you, and that’s when I found your neighborhood and then your house. I didn’t see any cars in the driveway or any lights on so I figured no one was home. It also looked pretty easy to climb, which it was, so I just climbed, waited him out and, well, you know the rest.”
The girl has her arms crossed as she listened intently to his story. The stranger just broke into her home so she isn’t sure of how much she can actually trust him. However, she decides to give him the benefit of the doubt and chooses to believe him. With that in mind, she can’t help but feel a little bad for him. She was never short of anything in life, nothing materialistic at least. She isn’t on par with stealing but that’s because she never needed it to survive. This boy here relies on theft not only for himself but for his brother as well. Although stealing isn’t entirely justified to her, she knows that in this case, it was necessary.
“You have a brother?” she merely asks.
“Yeah, younger brother. Do you?”
“…Yeah, older.”
‘Ohhh so that’s who the guy in the picture is,’ the boy thinks to himself.
“Swear you’re not lying?” she Questions.
“Cross my heart,” he does the action with his hands. “Listen I didn’t mean to cause you any trouble. I didn’t plan on staying here long or to take anything. I just needed a place to lay low for 5 minutes. So I’m sorry for… nearly giving you a heart attack when you walked in I guess,” he gently laughs.
“Well… I guess someone way worse could’ve decided to break into my house,” she shrugs. “I also have to take into account that I’m still alive so all in all, apology accepted…. one condition though.”
“Name it.”
“You take with you some fruits from my kitchen for you and your brother.”
He’s a bit hesitant about it. He doesn’t like to be looked upon under a helpless light even if he was struggling. He wrinkles his nose, “I don’t know… I don’t like being looked at as a charity boat.”
“Oh, no it’s just that my brother always buys an excessive amount of fruit and well it’s only the two of us and more often than not the fruit goes bad because none of us eat all of it,” she explains. “I really hate wasting food like that so honestly it’s a burden you’d be ridding me of. So please, take it?”
Again, he’s hesitant but eventually he nods his head and gives her a small grateful smile of acceptance.
She gives him a small half smile and begins to walk out of the room while he grabs his backpack from the floor and follows her. The girl turns on her flashlight as she nears the stairs and this prompts a question from the boy.
“Why don’t you just turn on the lights?” he asks.
“Oh, my brother forgot to pay the light bill for this month,” she simply replies.
Then it hits him, no electricity, no working house phone, “You were never going to call the cops were you?”
“Wow you catch on quick, you are a smart one,” she complacently remarks. “No I wasn’t going to call the cops because I wouldn’t have a way to call the cops but I wasn’t going to tell that to a random guy that broke into my room.”
“Alright, fair point….. and I’ll admit, kinda clever.”
“Kinda? What a way to send someone a backhanded compliment,” she says, briefly glancing at him.
“Okay, fine. Very clever, happy?” he smirks.
“Ecstatic,” she says without looking at him but anyone could hear the grin in her tone.
Once they reach the kitchen, the girl instructs him to wait by the counter and place his pack on the table. The boy does as instructed and begins to look around her home as he patiently waits for her to get the fruits. The kitchen is not too far from the living room area and he notices how it’s also a fairly large room. His eyes trail from furniture to the fireplace, to plants, to the walls and to the few photographs illuminated by the moon. Meanwhile, the girl is stuffing his backpack with fruits and sneaks in a few juice packs as well. She knows it’s not technically part of the agreement but still reckons there’s no real harm being done.
When she finishes loading up his backpack, he thanks her and she walks with him towards her front entrance.
As he’s about to walk out the front door, he stops himself as he realizes something, “I never got your name.”
“(F/N) (L/N), what’s yours?”
“Sam Morgan,” he shakes her hand. “Thanks again for the fruit, (Y/N) and the juices- yeah I saw you put ‘em in my pack but it’s alright. You’re quite sneaky yourself  y’know, just gotta work on your technique a little more. But I still see some potential in you.”
“Hmmm, and lemme guess, you’re the perfect teacher to help me unlock my uncharted potential huh?”
“Well, I could be if you want me to. I’m always around in case you’re ever in need of a lesson or just want some to explore around with,” he smiles.
“I’ll keep that in mind, Sam Morgan.” she grins.
“So, see you around?” he asks as he walks backwards from her doorstep.
“I suppose we’ll see,” she says before finally closing the door and retreating back into her home.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
A full week passes before Sam decides to pay his newfound friend a visit. After finishing another job of his, he hops onto his motorcycle and makes his way to (Y/N)’s neighborhood. Once he’s close enough, he parks his bike a few houses down and walks the rest of the way to her house. He smirks as he sees that the lights are on and notes that her brother finally paid the light bill. However, his smile slowly replaces itself with a frown as he nears her house and is welcomed with muffled yelling.
Sam positions himself to lean on the house and begins to submerge himself in his thoughts as he waits for the yelling to cease. He remembers she mentioned she had an older brother but he didn’t imagine that he was that kind of brother. Too immersed in his thoughts, it takes a while for Sam to realize the yelling has stopped but once he does he makes his way up to climb to the girl’s window, and this time he knocks.
The girl was walking around her room in an attempt to extinguish her rage from her argument with her brother when she gets startled by the knock on her window. She slowly nears the window and when she sees Sam’s head suddenly pop up she slightly jumps back in surprise.
“What the- Sam?” she gives a quick glance at her bedroom door before finally opening the window, “What the hell are you doing here?” she asks still slightly crossed.
“Well hello to you too, (Y/N).”
“Sorry,” she apologizes,”the attitude is not directed at you I just…”
“Yeah I kinda heard….everything alright?” he asks, “The shouts were going on for ages.”
“It’s nothing,” she quickly retorts, “my brother was just upset, he has anger issues is all.”
“And so you let him take it out on you?” he asks genuinely surprised. He only met her once but from that brief encounter, she doesn’t strike him as the type to just take shit from anybody.
“No,” she sighs, “ he’s just upset and he gets like this sometimes. He usually just locks himself in his room for the rest of the night and doesn’t come out until the morning for work.”
“Hmph,” he thinks. “You seem stressed, wanna come out?”
“Come out?” she repeats
“Yeah, out, as in, with me.”
She hesitates, “I- where would we even go?”
“Anywhere you want, sweetheart. That’s the beauty of spontaneity. It can take you anywhere,” he smiles.
“You mean like lying in ditch in an alleyway?” she raises her brow
“Glass half empty type of gal huh?” he banters.
“No,” she quickly objects. “I’m just naming a possibility.”
“Yeah a negative one,” he teases. “C‘mon, come out with me. Your brother will never find out. You said so yourself, he’s gonna lock himself in his room and he won’t come out till the morning. That gives us plenty of time to hang out and explore.”
She stays silent, mentally debating on whether she should go or not. Sam also stays silent to give her time to think but eventually asks again.
“So, whaddya say?”
“Okay, fine,” she gives in. “Let’s go.”
“Attagirl,” he commentates as he pats the window sill. “C’mon it’s a simple climb.”
“Uh, I could just go through the front door you know,” she states matter of factly yet still amused.
“What’s the fun in that?” he asks.
“Oh, I don’t know, how about not dying?” she playfully scoffs.
“Psshhh, you’re not gonna die. You have me with you, come on. It’s easy.”
“Ugh,” she grunts. “If I die, I’m totally haunting your ass.”
“I’d say it’s a little too early for the till death do us part and then after vows,” he laughs.
“Oh my God, shut up and lead the way,” she scoffs and rolls her eyes.
He lightly laughs as he starts to climb down, the girl slowly following his actions closely behind, and when he reaches the floor he holds his arms out to catch her.
“What, you mean just jump?” she asks quite dumbfounded.
“Yeah, pretty much,” he states matter of factly.
She breathlessly laughs and he catches on to her doubt.
“C’mon I promise I’ll catch you,” he assures her, “I’ve done this before, trust me.”
‘Trust him?’ she mentally asks herself.
“I’m serious about haunting you upon my death, Sam,” she jokes in an attempt to mask her fear.
“So do it. Wouldn’t mind having a pretty little ghost tagging along with me on my adventures,” he teases.
“Shut up,” she says as she ignores the heat forming on her cheeks.
“Then jump,” he humors her.
“Okay, okay…..ready?”
“Yep,” he states in seriousness.
At this, the girl reluctantly lets go of her grip on the wall and lands safely in Sam’s arms, as promised, before he gently sets her down on her feet.
“See, wasn’t so bad right,” he pats her shoulder.
“Actually no,” she states with a sudden confidence as if she can now take on anything.
“Great, follow me. My motorcycle’s right this way.”
“Your what now?” she nervously asks.
“Relax, (Y/N),” he says as he chuckles at her nervousness, “haven’t you ever ridden on a motorcycle before?”
“Not in my current lifetime, can’t recall.”
‘Come on, (Y/N),’ she mentally scolds herself. ‘Woman up.’
“But there’s always a first time for everything, right?”
“Right,” he agrees, “and don’t worry I’m a pro at riding these things like I am at climbing.”
“Alrighty then…” she says, mentally facepalming herself.
Once Sam and the girl are on his motorcycle, he instructs her to hang onto him before starting the motor and taking off. It didn’t hit her that she just agreed to go out in the middle of the night to an unknown location with a boy she only met once, and that was because broke into her home, until at least 10 minutes into the ride with Sam. Nevertheless, she merely shrugs and tightens her grip on Sam’s waist since it’s far too late to reconsider anything now.
As Sam nears his destination, the speed of his motorcycle decreases until it finally comes to a full halt. He turns off the engine and proceeds to get off his bike until he can’t and chuckles when he realizes why. Like a ship held in place by an anchor, the girl has her arms tightly locked around Sam’s waist keeping him in place. She did so in the duration of the ride to calm down her nerves and not fall off the bike but Sam didn’t mind in the least bit. Especially when he made those sharp turns which would briefly make her grip on him tighten more. Long story short, not all those sharp turns were absolutely necessary. Although dangerous, Sam knew what he was doing.
“We’re here, (Y/N). I promise it’s safe to let go,” he tells her.
It appears she kept her eyes closed as well during the ride because it wasn’t until she released her arms from Sam’s waist, after quickly apologizing for anchoring him down, did she finally react when she sees where Sam took her. On their left, right above their heads, stands a large bridge connecting to the fully lit city across a body of water separating the two of them from the city. The river is calm as it carries the twinkling reflection of the city’s lights in its slow currents, making a slight whooshing sound as it moves.
Immediately she hops off the bike to gawk at the view, Sam lowly chuckling to himself at her reaction as he leans on his bike.
“Yeah, that was my first reaction too. Still is actually, it’s pretty nice,” he broke her reverie.
She briefly scoffs, “Nice? Nice is getting a new fish tank full of goldfishes. Sam, this is amazing. I mean, Boston always was to me, it’s so rich in history and all, but seeing it like this is just beautiful.”
“True,” he nods as he suddenly sits up. “You like history?”
“Yeah, it’s pretty interesting. You know, if you would’ve made it past my booby trap by the bookcase,” he laughs as he recalls almost tripping on her bra, “you probably would’ve seen my book collection on history, some mythology, and fiction.”
“Didn’t think you were much of a reader,” he states.
“Yeah, and you also didn’t think I was home, what’s your point?”
Again he laughs, enjoying her quick wit, “Nothing, just that I’m probably bad at guessing.”
“I think it’s safe to say that you are in fact bad at guessing, at least when it comes to me,” she declares.
“Oh really?”
“Really,” she gives him a quick glance before retreating back to the view.
“Alright then,” he says as he fully stands to walk up next to her, hands in his jean pockets, “since guessing would be a complete waste of time why don’t you tell me about yourself?”
“What do you want to know?” she asks, not tearing her gaze from the city.
“Well for starters, are you hungry?” he asks.
“Uh- kinda it’s been a few hours since I ate I guess, why are you too?”
When she doesn’t receive a response she looks to her side and sees Sam walking towards his backpack on his bike and begins to look for something, “I got some cash on me, if you want we can-”
She’s cut short as Sam approaches her with two apples in his hands and gives one to her.
“Oh, thanks,” she thanks him before biting into her apple.
“Don’t mention it,” he says as he bites into his. “So, you ever stole anything?”
“No can’t recall I ever did,” she simply replies as she continues to munch on her apple.
“Never?” he says partially surprised. “Why not?”
She shrugs, “Never needed to honestly. My parents make good enough money to support me and my brother. Simply never had the need to steal.”
“Wait, your parents, I thought you said you only lived with your brother?”
“I do live with my brother but my parents…. Actually how about you first, do you just live with your brother?”
“Uh- well, kinda. To make a long and sad story short, my mom died when I was young and my dad just sent us to an orphanage,” he says without making any direct eye contact.
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear about that,” she lowers her head, partially regretting making him share his story first. She doesn’t like thinking about her circumstance with her family, much less discussing it. However, seeing as to how Sam practically gave her his entire life story in one concise sentence, she decides to be upfront with him as well. If he can be honest, why can’t she?
The two stay quiet for a moment longer as they stare at the view and continue to eat their apples. Sam goes back to lean on his bike and soon after the girl follows him and leans next to him.
“My parents… they’re alive but, honestly, they might as well not be,” he turns his head as she starts speaking but she continues to switch glances from her feet to the view. “They do make good money but their jobs require them to travel a lot so they’re rarely home. I was around 6 when they started leaving me with my brother. He was maybe around 12. We missed them. I was little so he had to take care of me but that was a big responsibility for a kid his age and I guess he just couldn’t handle it. Through time we became very distant. Our only conversations are like the one you heard outside my house. And… I don’t know maybe he doesn’t like me or just doesn’t know how to show it or control his emotions…”
“From experience,” he starts, “I’m willing to bet it’s the latter. I had to watch over my little brother Nathan for a really long time and we’ve never had arguments like that but I know the job is stressful. Maybe your brother just can’t handle it,” he says as he crosses his arms across his chest.
“Probably,” she lightly shivers as a cold drift passes by them.
“You cold?” he asks, already removing his jacket.
“Yeah it’s just the wind- Oh, thanks,” she says as he hands her his denim jacket. “Won’t you be cold too?”
“Nah I’ve got a long sleeve on, it’s fine,” he says as he looks at her. “You have really nice eyes by the way.”
“What?” she questions, his sudden statement highly unanticipated by her.
“Your eyes, they’re really nice. Anyone ever told you that?” he repeats.
“Not really, they’re pretty simple.”
“They suit you,” he simply says and immediately turns his head back to her to correct himself, “Not that you’re simple, you’re far from that, y-you’re pretty fun and easy to talk to and pretty- uh anyways, you’re not simple is what I’m trying to say,” he quickly blurts out as he crosses his arms against his chest again and clears his throat..
She chuckles at his rambling, “Well thank you. You have pretty eyes too, I also think you’re pretty and find you very easy and interesting to talk to. Glad that’s all out in the open.”
He lightly laughs at her response and continues to just stare at the Boston night. They remain in silence for a while just staring at the view but it’s a comfortable silence. So comfortable, in fact, that the girl starts to fall asleep on Sam’s shoulder. Sam barely notices she’s asleep until he hears the soft thud of her half eaten apple reach the ground. He looks to his side, sees the girl asleep on his shoulder, and gently laughs before nudging her arm to wake her up.
“Hey….hey…you fell asleep,” he says as she regain consciousness.
“Hmm-wha?… Oh man, did I drool on you?” she nervously asks.
“Nah, pretty sure I would’ve felt that. You dropped your apple tho,” he says as he picks it up. “C’mon, I’ll take you home. Something tells me you’re tired.”
“Wonder where you’d get such an idea,” the girl says as she yawns. With that, as soon as Sam discards the apples in the nearest trash bin, together they hop onto his motorcycle and ride back to the girl’s house.
