I just wanted to say how much I love your blog. As someone who is realy interested in (in other words-obsessed with) history, especially FW the 3rd, I love this so much! I only found you blog after you had dissapeared for a few months and now I am so happy you are back.

I was told that I should ask you about the relationship between Frederick William III of Prussia and his father because I wanted to know more about their relationship.

Howdy! Thanks for sending an ask directly to me, otherwise I would have reblogged Matti's post haha~

To say that Frederick William III and his dad had a rocky relationship is a huge understatement. After all it is said that Frederick William II was immensely displeased by the birth of the crown prince and even said that he "wished that 'thing' would've never been born". FW III. was raised very strictly and with a massive emphasis on discipline and obedience, so much so that his great-uncle Frederick the Great noticed how he was being raised without having any ounce of imagination. And if Frederick William III. did anything out of the ordinary or something "childish" (like throwing berries at his younger brother) he would be scolded a lot by both his father and the personal teachers, who were carefully picked by the king and instructed to not let anything slide. I'm not sure if his father ever gave his son a bit of praise or a word of encouragement. It is well known that Frederick William III. was quite the pacifist and didn't want to wage war and kill people but Frederick William II. still took him and his younger brother to war, making them face the cruel reality of ruling a country, where he whitnessed soldiers dying left and right and certainly scaring him for life. Frederick William II. had a habit of piling up debts and when he died he left the country with basically little to no money, not only worsening the relationship to the crownprince but also causing his people to hate him, in turn making the people put all their faith on the young Frederick William III., a kind of pressure he could barely handle. It is possible that part of his personality as an adult was the result of his harsh upbringing (since we can't diagnose a dead person we can't say for sure but as a person who had a similar upbringing when it comes to abusive fathers I would bet good money on that). And for him to watch his father treat his affairs and children from those affairs better and like his preferred family must have been like water to the sown seeds of resentment. He was emotionally abandoned, raised to be more of a tool than a person with little to no freedom to express himself, possibly even physically abused when no one was looking, and he cried. A lot.

If anyone has any more input on this feel free to add to this, I'm quite tired rn and may have forgotten something haha but I hope this helps get a general idea!

What we learn from History is that no one learns from History.

I certainly appears so, especially considering the latest changes in government all around the world. Past mistakes are being made all over again, both little and big. One can only hope that the majority of people remember the past and try their best to do what they can to change the world for the better.

It really feels like history scolding us by saying "don't make me repeat myself" but the biggest kids on the playground just cover their ears and start singing.
