Thankful for #sidewalks + #streettrees on a fall walk in #district34nash. Street trees are found mostly in downtown #Nashville and in some subdivisions, & increasingly, with recently passed policy, in suburban commercial centers. Nashvillians, when you post pictures of sidewalks, please be sure to add #walkablenashville & #sidewalks(zipcode)鈥攆or example for these pics: #sidewalks37205 This helps create a photo inventory of what walkable infrastructure we have and what we need, searchable by zipcode! Thank you! #walkmore https://www.instagram.com/p/CHeHZ6-hXMm/?igshid=11tcv7gc3ypkr

馃尦It鈥檚 been a while (about a year actually), but there is good #walkablenashville news to share. #metrocouncilnash passed my #streettree bill this summer. Effective August 3, bleak suburban spots like these have to plant street trees. That鈥檚 what the green zone/furnishing zone was designed for (and poles and bus shelters and), but while we had elevated our sidewalk design standards & then our requirements for sidewalks (July 2017), #Nashville still was not requiring street trees outside of the downtown core. Now for all commercial & multi-family property, in any and all centers countywide, #streettrees are required. 馃尦馃帀 https://www.instagram.com/p/CE0JFg-BgId/?igshid=xt5yb5i1w8t3

Election Day! If you did not early vote, it鈥檚 time to get your feet to the polls! #votingfeet #GoVoteNashville Remember to elect and/or re-elect leaders with a passion for #safestreets who will 1) uphold the sidewalk legislation 2) continue to improve & fund the neighborhood traffic calming program more robustly 3) address dangerous crossings through an intentional & accountable effort 4) work to deliver more sidewalks at less cost more quickly 5) advance a transit plan with a bigger emphasis on #sidewalks & #greenways #walkmore #johncooperfornashville https://www.instagram.com/p/B0ncHZYBhOw/?igshid=1xj1d27fcylo8

Congratulations to @walkbikenash on 20 years of working to make #Nashville a better place to walk, bike, live, work, and play!! 18 years ago, I started partnering with Walk Bike as part of Walk Nashville Week to host community awareness walks in Green Hills. I coordinated Walks for Active Aging, Walk to Lunch events, Walk to Work Days, and Walk to Worship. All to bring attention to the need for walkable infrastructure in and around our suburban business districts (and all over Nashville too, of course!) Walk Bike is still going strong and growing (are you a member? You should be!) and we continue to partner as I work from elected office for policy and funding for more and safer sidewalks and bikeways. Here鈥檚 to 20 more years and many more sidewalks!

Enjoyed dinner in walkable @lenoxvillage last night. Lots of families and friends out walking to and from dinner. People enjoying sitting on patios and a fun movie night out on the lawn. Glad to see apartments above a variety of businesses. Street trees too. Speed limit is too high at 30 mph鈥攕hould be 25 at MOST in this walkable community. #walkmore #safestreets (at Lenox Village Town Center)

Sidewalk Bill BL2016-493 passed this week with 38 co-sponsors! #Nashville has turned a corner on investment in and creation of #walkable infrastructure with this bill. We have many decades of car-oriented land-use policy to overcome, but there is no time like the present! #sidewalks #sidewalkpolicy #walkmore

#sidewalks are essential for the success of #transit in #nashville Important that @nashville_mta_rta & @metropublicworks & @metronashplan work together to plan for and make these strategic connections asap. This is a recent small connection that makes a big difference at the intersection of Harding Pike & Harding Place #safestreets #walkmore #trytransit #busmore #sidewalks37205 #pikesproject @pikesproject

Walking home from the grocery store on Kenner Ave. So many people walk here. This would be an easy spot for the property owner to build a #sidewalk #safestreets #walkmore #nashvilleneedssidewalks #sidewalks37205

Typical. Uncomfortable. Better than nothing? #sidewalks right on the street (with 12 foot travel lanes). Start of the @walkbikenash & BPAC policy walk this past Friday. The Major & Collector Street Plan (MCSP) no longer allows this "design" for new sidewalk construction, but what about repairs? What are we doing to elevate our infrastructure when we build a missing link or replace an old sidewalk? #walknashvillemonth #sidewalks37208 (at Nashville Farmers' Market)

Happy New Year! Do you walk more on vacation than you do at home in Nashville? Here are scenes from the sidewalks on New Year's Day in Naples, FL. This is a parking garage next to Cambier Park, one block from 5th Avenue South, with the permanent art installation "Cambier Quilt" by Mark Fuller. #publicart #streetscape #walkmore

Hope everyone had a spooktacular Halloween--the most fun walking evening of the year. Well designed neighborhoods with sidewalks on both sides of the street and streets that are closed to cars and open for people are ideal for trick or treating on Halloween. Shown here: my ghostly view from a #phillymuralarts tour last week. Farewell to October #walknashvillemonth and #artobernashville
