we know why will needs mike in his life, he tells us that. but why does mike need will? what is it that will brings in mike's life? we don't quite know that yet. season 5 is likely gonna go more into that.

and don't bring up "he wants someone who needs him!" because how can you say that and not hear everything that's wrong with that? think about it. what if will didn't need him? by giving mike what he wants, you aren't getting to the core root of his issue. you're simply just going from el to will, and you eventually cycle back to the same "what if i'm not enough and one day they don't need me anymore?" it's a never-ending cycle. it's okay to like to feel needed, but not when that's your only source of validation. that becomes unhealthy and self-destructive really fast.

the problem mike is facing is equating his self-worth and importance to what he can give. "if they stop relying on me and going to me for help, i'm completely useless."

mike's literal catchphrase at this point is "are you okay?" but, if you're paying attention, he's clearly not okay himself. that never comes out though. he's never checked up on and everyone's missing the signs. instead he gives and gives because that's where he gets the validation and care he's missing. this eventually leads to dangerous roads where he throws himself (literally) at danger for the sake of others, almost costing his life. he needs to matter, no matter what it takes.

so, mike has to learn his worth outside of what he gives, that who he is alone is enough. he's worth more than saving someone. he doesn't need to fix every little thing like he thinks. once he's found worth in who he is at his core, has understood he's loved for just that, then he can become the best version of himself.
