this idea hit me like a truck and i proceeded to first cry about it a little and then to draw for four hours straight to bring it to existence 👍
i have also now spent way too much time thinking about a naruto x omori crossover with kakashi in it and it's absolutely devastating, 10/10 would recommend
based on the mirror scenes from omori

Incubus Chapter 6.5
Tumblr media
(A small glimpse into Flea’s POV sometime between Chapter 6 and 7. For mature readers only.)
Flea usually woke first. It used to be a matter of practicality—while his ex-meal was sleeping, he could snoop around their place, see if they had anything useful just lying around; could slip into the bathroom, wash himself off in the sink, give himself fresh eyeliner if he was lucky. If they seemed like a particularly soft touch he’d push his luck and throw his clothes in their washing machine, or risk stealing a new pair of socks from the bottom of a drawer.
Now was different. Flea would wake first and, instead of hurrying out of bed, he’d linger. He’d turn slowly, silent against the sheets, and watch the detective’s face in the faint pre-dawn light, gauging how long he had until their eyes would flutter open. He’d place a hand in the space between him and them, splay his fingers, and wonder since when distance had become something he no longer cherished.
This morning the detective’s brow was wrinkled, their face drawn in the faint distress of an unseen dream. Without thinking, Flea’s hand closed the gap between them. He brushed their forehead with his fingertips, rubbing gently between their eyes.
“Shhh,” he murmured. “No nightmares allowed.”
A pained sound escaped the detective’s throat, then their face went slack. Flea withdrew slowly, tucking his hand back against himself, on his side of the bed. He blinked, then rubbed his eyes until little fireworks were blooming under his eyelids.
You’re cooked, man. His toes curled. You’re fucked.
Until Chapter 7...

Thinking about the Emily Wilde books and why I like Wendell Bambleby so much...I guess the combination of charming characters with a dark side is like catnip to me. He's a charming but lazy professor who sleeps around! He falsifies his research! He gets obsessive about cleanliness and making rooms cozy! He's a capricious and terrifying faerie king! He goes on murderous rampages! He's really good with a sword! One of my favorite moments was when he healed Professor Rose...he's like, oh yeah, I have no idea how to heal anyone with magic but how hard can it be? And then he gives him a backwards silver ear and doesn't see anything wrong with it. It's so...charmingly inhuman. He's not necessarily a good person but he is very devoted to Emily.
Also of course it helps that he spends a lot of book two magically ill. I just enjoyed that. Something about a magical character who isn't able to control his magic, that's always fun.
Although Wendell Bambleby is a deeply silly name. I know it's not his real name but still.

Never in my adult life had I had someone looking out for me. Everything that I have wanted or needed doing, I have done myself. And why not? I have never needed rescuing before. I suppose I always assumed that if I ever did, I would have two options: rescue myself or perish.

The dangers looming before us, the trepidation I felt at my decision to venture here, to stay at his side—it was all abruptly subsumed by something much more familiar, which sent my heart skittering with excitement. Scientific curiosity.

emily the type of person to write about an actual traumatic experience and her very understandably human reaction to it in her own private journal then a day later reread it back and write in retrospect "wow that was kinda cringe and melodramatic of me actually so sorry about that." i have never been understood more by a fictional character

Anyway one of my fave things about the Emily Wilde series is any time someone’s like “Emily is right” and Emily’s like “I know I am???” Like just completely matter of factly without any pretentiousness I love a woman who means zero harm but cannot read social cues to save her life (LITERALLY)
