The antarctic wind gusted between them, ruffling the fur edging on her hood. Katara leaned into his touch, relishing in the heat of his palm. She smiled. Yes, she had responsibilities in the South Pole, but they weren’t anything that Sokka or Suki or Pakku couldn’t handle. This was her home. It would always be her home, even if she wore a golden flame in her hair.

Maybe it was time for her to have an adventure of her own.

She dragged her eyes up the slightly too-long line of his nose and met his mismatched eyes. Worry burned bright in them, anxiety lined the corner of the good one, and she saw a tremor in the hand holding out a pair of hand-carved whale bone combs. 

Katara wrapped her mittened hands around them, pulling herself up on tiptoe. She pressed their noses together.

“I’m sure, Zuko,” she answered. “I’ll be your Fire Lady.”

“Are you sure?” He asked.

Katara bit her lip, focusing on the reddening tip of his nose. That was a tough question. She was sure about a lot of things, one of them being that she loved this man, through and through. But he was asking her to leave her home, which wouldn’t normally be a problem; however, marrying him was a little more permanent than leaving to visit her friends for a month or two.

“I know how much all of this means to you,” he said, resting a hand on the side of her face. “I know I’m just being selfish, wanting to keep you all to myself when you have responsibilities here.”
