No other jury verdict has had such a profound social impact as the acquittal of Penguin Books in the Lady Chatterley trial.
Oh, just downloaded this today.

If you haven’t seen the movie lately—if your memories are mostly of the distinctively-filmed battles between Regan’s possessor and the priests played by Max von Sydow and Jason Miller—a re-visitation is in order. The lengthy Iraq-set prologue, where von Sydow’s Father Merrin first encounters the demon he’ll fight years later; the uncomfortable sequences in the hospital, where Regan’s put through a battery of frightening tests; and, especially, Miller’s haunted performance as Father Karras, trying to deal with a world that makes little sense and the overwhelming guilt he feels over the death of his mother (something the demon will, of course, gleefully seize upon later) … all these carefully lay the groundwork too often skimmed over by the film’s many subsequent imitators, leading viewers to that dreaded confrontation upstairs.

one-twenty-five:
I have been following this Marie Claire article, from when the topic sprung up on CNN, and have pretty much read all 967 comments out there (including the ones on CNN).
Marie Claire seems to be digging its own grave lately… in a world where body image issues plagues society, this article...
A magazine would not publish an article like this about people of one colour/ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation (or at least, I sincerely hope they never would). So why is it ok to be so damning and cruel (as well as ignorant
"I think obesity is something that most people have a ton of control over. It's something they can change, if only they put their minds to it.").
However, I do admire the writer's integrity, ability to self-reflect and apologise. We all have our issues and screw-up sometimes. Hopefully, few of us are working in industries where screw-ups make for great publicity and fall guys are exploited.
