“Plague Mask” & “The Hoarder”
My time in quarantine resulted in two types of art, stuff I just made because I wanted to and some directly related to COVID. These two are the related to COVID ones. “Plague Mask” was inspired by the fact that everyone was calling this the plague and masks. “The Hoarder” was inspired by the people who bought all the toilet paper and left none for others.

“Fancy Man”
During my time in quarantine I made a lot of art, some in response to COVID and some just to make something. This was one of those pieces that was just to make for the sake of making. There isn’t any crazy backstory I just had a lot of random paintings and paper scraps I didn't want to throw away.

“Monster In A Dress”
What was once a simple class project became my most respected and recognizable piece. It’s done more traveling than I have and won two titles.
The project itself was to utilize 8 different artistic process we learned over the course of the class into one final piece. Only enough if you ask where they are I’ll tell you they’re underneath LAYERS of paint, paper and gesso. What ended up happening was I didn't like where my piece was going so after using the different techniques I covered it up and did whatever I wanted. Which was cut up some magazines and make a monster in a dress. It’s not take on beauty standards or the media as some like to guess, it is as the title puts it.

“Triptych: Red, Green, Purple”
I was commissioned for a triptych and I was given a lot of creative liberties so I decided to go for a collage/abstract piece. First I picked colors and did the background, then the line work, then the collaging began. Once I got a general shape I added the line work that became the face. After that I added the 3D details by cutting and folding paper. Once I had a composition I liked I was done.

“Philip”
This piece was another for my independent study, but I actually got to finish this one long before COVID. I was studying pattern and texture within the realm of ceramics. So I decided to cover him in different types of designs using different techniques. Some are carved into the piece and some are painted on. This was the first and last piece I got to experiment with the sand blaster. It gives it a rough and yet smooth texture which was fun to play with.

“Esmerelda”
I work with a lot of symmetry in my art so for this piece I wanted to use color to break up that idea. While the face itself is symmetrical the colors are not.

“Covid Vase”
This piece was supposed to be for my final in my independent study on texture and ceramics, but due to COVID I barely got to finish. Before COVID was even an idea in my mind I was working on this, the title only came after lockdown. It was created using the strip method and once I got it to the height I wanted I let my class throw lobs of clay at it.
I had just gotten it out of the kiln after the first layer of color and needed to put a clear glaze on top. Unknown to our class this was the last day of in-person school. I had some idea that this was going to be the last time I was there so I enlisted the help of a friend to glaze it for me while I rushed to pack up my things and finish another sculpture. Sadly I didn't know how right I’d be, as I put it in the kiln for the last firing I didn't know I’d be saying goodbye. Months later and the school was finally allowing people in to clean out lockers. I finally got to see my creation after months not knowing how’d the colors would look. Once it was home safely I gave it the name COVID Vase.

“Elongated Tim”
After a few years since the creation of the original “Tim” I wanted to see if my skills had progressed. Using the same idea of having one hollow vessel as opposed to creating the head and body separately and putting them together post-kiln thus was created a much taller version. This was created during the the time that COVID had just become a possible issue. His coloring was going to be more solid but time was running low and there was a rumor we weren't returning to school. So it was either paint him abstractly or lose him to COVID. I got him home the last day we were allowed on campus before lockdown.

“Crayons” - “Marshmallow” - “Vase is Das”
A little different then my facepots, these were an exploration of texture, repetitive pattern and non-traditional documentation. “Crayons” explored texture as well as the addition of color. “Marshmallow” actually dried out to much so I couldn't add on without it falling off so instead of adding I took away. “Vase is Das” I explored with the shape as well as the carving.

“Tom” one of the most tedious facepots in the family. The color blocking as well as the dots (which were done one by one with a tiny brush) paid off well in the end but it was a struggle to keep focused.

“Tim” was my first piece to utilize gold leaf with ceramics. Built using the strip method he is one whole piece, the head, hat and body are all connected and were fired as one piece. It was a risky move and explosion was a possibility but he survived 3 different times in the kiln.

“Mordecai” The first piece in the ceramic family. Created out of an accident in which I dropped him causing the shape of the mouth. This is what gave me the idea of adding faces to my pieces. The carving was an experimentation in 2D design and 3D sculpture.

“The world’s tiniest portfolio” It all started during the dreaded college process, applications and essays due every week, but on top of this I needed to attend portfolio day and to do that, I needed a portfolio. Thus the creation of the largest one pictured. It was a success but then came campus visits. It was far too big and heavy to take with so it got a sibling. Same artworks just “travel size”. But travel size was taken to a whole new meaning when my family joked it was just going to get smaller and smaller.
Here we are, present day. I’m in college settling in when I receive a package. It’s no secret my family likes to send ‘weird’ mail whenever I’m away from home but this was special. “The worlds tiniest portfolio”. Also known as “Pocket Portfolio”. The next step is to move upwards in scale and see how big they can get.
