The hook tells stories

of resolve and survival

through clever lacing

Sapient skeins of yarn

proclaim to generations

prose by deft fingers

Paper cuts from ripping pages

filled with words never really understood

bulky volumes silenced

twisted into submission

by aching wrists

beyond recognition

All worth it though

Bare shelves don't tease.

Of all his #odious deeds

And underhanded deals

It's his puppet he deems

his masterpiece.

Her singing's ceased,

free will hardly a memory

Inert, in distant reverie

Fine string, the only thing

keeping together

heart, spirit, bones.

I stepped into midnight to a cosseting embrace

I nestled even closer, their indigos caressed my face

Now a weft within dark fabric, I might be too far gone

The part that recalls who I am will try to return to dawn.

I tiptoe across the room

I hide behind your back

I nestle between books on your shelves

.

I wake you up at 3am

And whisper in your ear

Make you unsure of your own name

.

Sometimes I like to knock you down

When you are feeling good

Escalate your small mistakes

.

To mix it up

Sometimes I dance

upon the corners of your mirrors

.

One day I'll burrow through your eyes

And there I'll make my home

We 3, we are unnatural

Our empty arms are proof

wordlessly, revealing us

Unnuturing, aloof.

Us 3, we look so graceful

our callousness entwines

A circle dance compelling us

to sway, dip, then decline.

Is it because we're witches?

Or were we cursed at birth

to choose a life of selfishness,

unfufilled, our female worth.

Who knows - our hearts might thaw

til then, frost goes on uniting

We 3 unnatural sisters

so strange and uninviting.

Electric element

Absent minds lead to:

Melted buckets

Mild electric shocks

Once, even a small fire.

Thanks for the warm baths

On cool harmattan mornings

Green needle*

It burrowed underneath my skin 

A protruberance beneath my palm 

The constant ache, a deadly sin 

Watching you fall, the only balm

*this is the result of an exercise for a little poetry course I am taking at the moment.

Let’s hear it for those who stumble and meander

Those who are mediocre-indeed, less than mediocre

A cheer for those who fail to shine, who the room does not light up for

Whose half-baked declarations are met with lukewarm half-smiles

Who else would the outstanding, the exceptional and clever

have to hold themselves against

to pat their shiny backs
