this is a message to any of y'all who are addicts, alcoholics, etc
hi. i just wanted to say, you are loved. and seen. i agree with the sentiment, generally, that you are responsible for your own healing - but healing is not so cut-and-dry, and it doesn't happen in a vacuum - you can't heal while you're being actively abused, and if healing means becoming more whole, allowing yourself humanity, you can't heal by making yourself so thick-skinned & perfectly, numbly calm you excuse harm to yourself or others; it is okay to call out your abusers, those who have neglected you, it is okay to call out that people have hurt you. we all have - we all should have - choice in our lives, and so we all do have responsibility, but people impact each other. this truth is something i believe is missing from a lot of messaging aimed at addicts & alcoholics. and there is so much ambient pain in the world, and genuine oppressions as well. there are many worlds within this one where it is dangerous to be yourself, as a queer person, as a disabled person, as a poor person. there are indigenous people who are either cannot return home or living in a version of home that is currently colonized. i actually consider it more honorable to cope however you can without becoming who your oppressors want you to be; i consider it more honorable to be an alcoholic rather than a sellout or someone who is proud of their contributions to capitalism & happy with their apparent rewards. as someone who is abused, who dissociates consistently and finds little value in hypothetically lengthening this version of my life against my own will, i feel solidarity with people who know pain. people who refuse to ignore it. i extend my hand to you. breathe slightly easier knowing someone supports every version of you

““The mannerisms that help define gender - the way in which people walk, swing their hips, gesture with their hands, move their mouths and eyes when they talk, take up space - are all based upon how non disabled people move…The construct of gender depends not only upon the male body and female body, but also on the non disabled body.””
