it irks me so bad how even stuff that doesn't need a gendered reader has a fem mc like?? once i saw a twst hc post about smth very trivial about how characters would hug and kiss and it wasn't even romantic hcs yet the reader was still female- and guess what?? PRONOUNS WERE NEVER EVEN USED AT ALL IN THE FIC???? istg the fandom is excluding mlm/nblm ppl on purpose at this point, and this is just one of the many times ive seen it happen

i also dont get why most accs dont even state the gender of reader in the beggining. sometimes i open a fic that i thought was gn and in the middle there would be fem described reader like bro just put fem reader at the start its not complicated. its even worse when its said to be gn or masc reader and in suddenly its used fem pronouns or terms

tldr; pls stop the female reader default in every single fandom this shit is overused and boring, bring more variety so all viewers can enjoy ur content

Thank you! Also you're completely right like if you can't be bothered to even attempt to make something that doesn't even need gender to be specified gender neutral then put that it's fem at the top or tag it specifically as female reader and don't just put a general tag.

I've seen some really good writers write stories where the reader is gn but has an AFAB body and they address it at the very top in BIG BOLD letters in a completely different color than the rest of the story so you know. And I'd have less of a problem if that was the norm. If they made sure you were aware before you got your hopes up.

We are thinking about maybe writing stories in this account, don't know if we wanna do fanfic though cuz of the really sexual requests people get and we primarily do hurt/comfort fics. BUT if we do we plan on doing a masc and gn readers, especially trans readers cuz there's like none.

So like feel free to completely ignore this rant BUT

Why is basically every single reader insert f****** female reader??? It doesn't matter how benign or wholesome or even how nsfw it is. they don't even bother to try and make it gender-neutral. Like for say the obey me fandom the MC is literally not stated to have a gender the Creator said it could be whatever you wanted male, female, non-binary, all were considered right so why is there only female you have to school for like 20 solid minutes to find one for gender-neutral much less male readers. And then a new fandom I'm in, which is twisted Wonderland, why is it all females?!?!

It's an all boys college, there is canonically no females on the premises. So why does everyone only write female readers?? Have you never been to an all boys anything they don't let females on the premises unless they're visitors. Not only that in both the novel and the manga the reader insert character named Yuu or Yuukan are literally black haired males.... All boys colleges or middle schools or high schools or dormitories or anything like that do not allow females on the premises. I get it's fiction but for something that is literally canonically stated to be an all boys college the dominant gender of reader inserts should not be females. At the very least make it gender neutral.

There's like no fandom where you can read reader insert story where you actually get a male reader or a gender-neutral reader you have to scrounge around for it.

Make female reader inserts all you want! For fandoms that are very much open for male readers to make an equal amount for the guys and the non-binaries you were literally removing an entire demographic that it's specifically kind of geared towards via the Canon of the f****** thing. Like I get it game about pretty boys but canonical gender of insert character or MC or Yuu whatever you want to call it is male.

The fact I scrolled for a solid hour and a half and saw five gender neutral and one male reader fic and they were all by the same author is ridiculous. The worst part is I'm probably going to get flooded with people going and being assholes about it. Because it's not that deep or it's not that big of a deal when I go to read fiction for comfort and instead gets severe dysphoria. I figured this would be the one fandom where there would be more gender-neutral fanfic because it literally States at the beginning the night Raven college that you attend in twisted Wonderland is an all boys college. Meaning had a female character walked out the coffin they would have been immediately sent back! There wouldn't have been that whole scene that happened! There wouldn't be a story. She would have been immediately attempted to be sent home. Write whatever you want to write but know that this is b*******.

This isn't a problem I have specifically with the obey me fandom or the twisted Wonderland fandom. Every community I'm in that I go to read fiction for fools this s*** as if there's not non-binary or trans masc or even CIS males who enjoy this kind of stuff. Really literally left out of everything when it comes to fandom because obviously boys don't read fanfiction I guess.

The museum we went to yesterday had a sensory room, with a sign specifically stating it was for people with disabilities/sensory issues. It was a quiet room with dim lighting and a few Stim toys

It also had several new signs warning for loud noises, flashing lights, and “disturbing imagery” at the entrances to exhibits

I’ve had friends that have told me point blank “don’t watch this, it has (XYZ) in it” because they knew I was looking into new movies to watch

Someone, on their own time, created an entire WEBSITE dedicated to warning other for potentially disturbing content in media. And other people contribute to it, for complete strangers to use

I’ve seen people take a different path while walking because one had a big spiderweb and someone with them was scared of spiders

So like… yeah the world can suck and having triggers can suck (and this post isn’t saying “expect everyone to accommodate you always” before anyone starts that shit, this is a happy post) but also??? Sometimes the world is good
