Waddup!
It’s been a while since either of us posted an update, but school got absolutely insane in April and then in May we were both busy with internships, so there was not much time for this. We are both sorry for that (not like anyone really reads this blog anyway, we’re just annoyed that we didn’t even have any time to practice. That sucks.
I got back to Mjölnir after a month of absence and I suck. For real. I can’t do anything. It’s awful.
But! I have some time now before I go back to school, so I’m practicing the hell out of my little ukulele. I’m trying to get back on track with You Belong With Me and Radioactive as well as trying to learn I Write Sins Not Tragedies, once again with the helo of the amazing Elise Ecklund. At this point I’m just trying to nail down the intro, but with some time, I’m sure I can do the whole song. Even though there’s more chords than what I’m used to and I cannot stand the F. Seriously, everyone says that it’s one of the easiest chords but GAH it’s a pain in the arse.
As soon as I master the first two songs, I will record an audioclip and post it here because why the hell not.
Also, I still can’t sing while playing. It just doesn’t work.
Yours
Hailey

Thanks to this ⬆️ amazing gal, I can now play You Belong With Me by @taylorswift on Mjölnir with only a few mess ups when I'm going from the G to D.
D really is a bitch.
I will keep practicing until the mess ups are minimalised and maybe i will record myself playing it and post it? Without the singing part though because a) I'm not sure if i want to be listening to myself singing on a recording, b) HOW TF DO PEOPLE CONCENTRATE ON BOTH PLAYING AND SINGING AND NOT MESS UP???
I have also written down the progressions for each part so I can look at them while playing - I can't do it from memory just yet. Here's how it goes:
The strumming pattern is DDU UDU. You do it twice for each chord except for the bold parts - you do it just once for those. When the progression is in brackets and there's a ×2 behind it, you do the whole progression twice, but you would have probably figured that out yourselves.
(G-D-Am-C)×2
Am-C-G-D-Am-C + D (strum the D just once downwards and let it ring out)
G-D-Am-C-G
(G-D-Am-C)×2
Am-C-G-D-Am-C + D
(G-D-Am-C)×2 + G
D-Am-C
(Am-C-G-D)×2 (do a single down strum on each chord on every first beat; 1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4 etc.)
(G-D-Am-C)×2 + G
And that's it! I'm really proud of myself tbh since it's my FIRST SONG! YAY!
Seriously though, check out Elise's stuff.
Mjölnir says hi too.

Hailey~

I've been practicing the progression G-D-Am-C using the pattern DDU UDU and let me tell you, the D-chord sucks. Also I tend to lose focus on the C for some reason and keep screwing up the pattern. But I. Cannot. Be. Stopped.

Everybody meet Mjölnir!

My gorgeous new ukulele. I've only had her for like a day but i love her.
She's a brown Octopus soprano ukulele, made from agathis laminate and the fretboard is from rosewood. She is fitted with Aquila strings.
And as you might have noticed, she has a tiny little octopus on the headstock.

How cute is that??
I started learning already and as fun as it is, two things suck (or maybe i suck at them i dunno): tuning is a huge pain you-know-where and I also struggle with changing the chords. But it might have something to do with me having quite thick fingers. It definitely cannot stop me!
Another thing - i can't seem to find the right way to strum. I know that there are many ways but i can't find the best. Down strums are okay for the most part, but upwards strums are just way too quiet no matter what I do. Hopefully i will get through that soon.
I shall keep you posted on my learning progress.
Side note: i have no idea why i decided that Mjölnir is a she. I also insist on pronouncing it like Darcy Lewis, that is myuh-myuh.

Hi, this is Billie,
I just got my guitar and I’m so excited. It’s the Takamine GD11M-NS, it’s a dreadnought guitar, made from mahagony wood, with Dunlop Acoustic extra light strings.

I originally wanted a different guitar, but the shop assistent, who was very very nice and helped me very very much, advised me to not buy it, and helped me choose this one.
I wanted black Fender FA 125, very cheap guitar for bigenners. But he told me, that the cheapest guitars labelled as “for bigenners“ are usually even harder for bigenning with playing, becuase makers are traying save on them.
Plus – when it comes to black guitars – in case of the cheap ones, makers often use the black paint for cover the bad materials or diferent lacks. I was quit sad that I wouldn‘t have a black guitar, because I’ve always wanted one, but it stopped right in the moment he told me that.
With the guitar I bought the tuner – absolutely indispenseble thing. Particulary Fender FCT-2.

And picks. I wasn’t really sure what picks I should buy, so I pick a pack of twelve, where various brands and thickness are.

This is my favorites so far.

Btw, I decided to name my guitar Luci, after my favourite character from Disenchantment. He is my spirit animal, and I hope my Luci will be too.
Yours B. xx

Heya this is just to clarify what this blog is:
We're two humans that are just about to start learning our first instruments. We don't even have them yet. Billie is going to play the guitar and Hailey is getting a ukulele soon. We've never played anything before but we thought it might be fun to document our progress since we'll be learning everything off of the internet ourselves. Maybe we'll be good and show other people that you can learn yourself. Or maybe we'll suck. Who knows.
Yours
Billie & Hailey
