Like my guy was truly like “I will put this straw helmet on my head to hide my identity BUT I will continue to wear my iconic hat AND have my known identifying symbol embroidered into my clothes for all to see”

It's a bit of a wandering draft I keep but probably won't use for my fic. I changed my mind on what this character does and how her island works. but I always enjoy playing lightening based characters, and she was based on my FFXV comrades oc who i had be a lightening throwing powerhouse. Lady Argentum is my oc Niamhs biological mother, who have been recently in the case of this snippet, been reunited, and Niamh is staying with her for a bit because of *plot* reasons. Set after Winner Island.

Lady Argentum sharp golden gaze stared down at the invaders of her outpost, the territory that she stood guard for over twenty years now. In that time, no one had come close to these islands without her approval.

"Well, since the Captain sunk their ship, we began to ponder...The Heart Pirates have been spotted around here lately, and the little lady of Trafalgars hasn't been seen in months." The man smirked. "So we thought 'we should loo-"

"Tell me." Argentum cut him off sharply, her unbreaking stare baring into them. Those in it felt a cold wind at the back of their necks. Her tone held a tension, not unlike the moment before a storm hit. "Did your commander really kill them?"

(He confirms)

Those around the man had a metallic taste take over their senses. Static filling the air, hair rising on end, unease fills them.

It takes them a minute to realize she'd already attacked them. And by then, it was too late for them to escape their fates. She had already seen to it.

The man, who had just been bragging about the deaths of her kin, had a hole burnt through his chest.

Lady Argentum was now pointing at him, waves of static wrapped around her like a fine feather boas. Her eyes glowed in the darkness, a sickly silver gleam.

"You have committed a great crime, killing the sons and daughters of mine." Her voice sinks into their guts, their unease turning to pure terror. "Your blood will not be enough to sate me"

it sucks so bad that 'lightning magic' in every media is just some pathetic little strands of electricity. i wanna see some LIGHTNING. show me a magic setting where lightning magic lights up a room like the sun, and the bolt is only visible as an afterimage burned into your vision. I wanna see someone cast lightning and have the thunder rattling the room and shaking everyone to their core. i want lightning magic to be a split second blast of so much power it leaves everyone's senses reeling. c'mon guys don't you know what real lightning looks like? we can be doing so much better than this.

Things I wish I had read in "beginner" sewing tutorials/people had told me before I started getting into sewing

You have to hem *everything* eventually. Hemming isn't optional. (If you don't hem your cloth, it will start to thread. There are exceptions to this, like felt, but most cloth will.)

The type of cloth you choose for your project matters very much. Your clothing won't "fall right" if it's not the kind of stretchy/heavy/stiff as the one the tutorial assumes you will use.

Some types of cloth are very chill about threading, some are very much not. Linen doesn't really give a fuck as long as you don't, like, throw it into the washing machine unhemmed (see below), whereas brocade yearns for entropy so, so much.

On that note: if you get new cloth: 1. hem its borders (or use a ripple stitch) 2. throw it in the washing machine on the setting that you plan to wash it going forward 3. iron it. You'll regret it, if you don't do it. If you don't hem, it'll thread. If you don't wash beforehand, the finished piece might warp in the first wash. If you don't iron it, it won't be nice and flat and all of your measuring and sewing will be off.

Sewing's first virtue is diligence, followed closely by patience. Measure three times before cutting. Check the symmetry every once in a while. If you can't concentrate anymore, stop. Yes, even if you're almost done.

The order in which you sew your garment's parts matters very much. Stick to the plan, but think ahead.

You'll probably be fine if you sew something on wrong - you can undo it with a seam ripper (get a seam ripper, they're cheap!)

You can use chalk to draw and write on the cloth.

Pick something made out of rectangles for your first project.

I recommend making something out of linen as a beginner project. It's nearly indestructible, barely threads and folds very neatly.

Collars are going to suck.

The sewing machine can't hurt you (probably). There is a guard for a reason and while the needle is very scary at first, if you do it right, your hands will be away from it at least 5 cm at any given time. Also the spoils of learning machine sewing are not to be underestimated. You will be SO fast.

My Lilly died.

And she hid it until two days ago.

She had an autoimmune disorder that the vets didn't catch when i had her tested when I took her in like six months ago. It was like the feline form of sickle cell. It stayed hidden like a time bomb, and she brusied herself being her usual goody self...and it was too much stress. She was almost five years old.

Wedding ask game for your newly (and not so newly) wed OTP

(made mainly with couples in mind, feel free to adapt to as many people as you want)

Who first brought up the option of marriage? Was it an easy topic?

Which one proposed? Was it grand and public? Discreet and private? Was it expected?

Show us their engagement and/or wedding rings!

Did they plan the wedding by themselves, with help, or with a professional planner?

Was the planning and time up til the wedding stressful?

Who were the first people to find out about the engagement? How did they react?

Who are the maids of honor and/or best men? Why and how were they chosen?

Was there any drama whatsoever regarding the guest list?

Show us a mood/stimboard of their wedding's general aesthetic.

Do they get married through court? Church? Third secret option?

When do they get married? Night or day? Any specific reason for either?

Do either of them play music while walking down the aisle (if they do at all)? If yes, show us their song.

Ways to Get Inspired to Write That Character

1. Create a Mood Board

A mood board is a collage of images, text, colors, or materials. that are used to “to evoke or project a particular style or concept”. Basically, it helps set the “mood” for whatever you are working on. Mood boards are often used by interior decorators and artists but can also be used for writing. I love creating mood boards for each of my characters. It helps me get a a feel for the character I am writing. For example, one of my characters is an elven swordswoman. For her mood board I used images of trees, flowers, decorative swords, and artwork of elves. It really helps when I’m trying to write from her perspective. 

To create a mood board, simply find images or text that remind you of your OC. I use google images or even pinterest to find images. Its easy and fun. 

2. Take Quizzes for Your Characters

Okay, this may seem a little silly but it totally works. Take a quiz from your characters point of view. Select the answers you think your character would select. I personally like doing this with personality quizzes such as the Myers Briggs tests because I can use the results as a foundation for my characters personality. It’s fun, effective, and actually productive.

3. Create Playlists 

I listen to music a lot because it gets my creative juices flowing. So, if I find myself stuck on a particular character, I make a playlist of songs that remind me of that character. I actually like doing this before I start working on a character so I can listen to it while working on them. It sets the mood and gives you better results. Give it a try. 

4. Study Some of Your Favorite Characters

Sit down, take out a notebook, and start taking notes on some of your favorite characters from literature, TV, or movies. What made you attracted to this character? What made you hate this character? What is your favorite thing about this character? Answering these questions will help see why you feel that way towards your favorite or least favorite fictional characters. Use your notes as a guideline on how to make readers either hate or love your OCs. 

5. People Watch

Yeah, this sounds creepy but it is very effective. Go to the park, take a walk, or simply sit at the window and observe the people you see. Take notes on the little things that they do. Do they walk a certain way? Do they stand up straight or do they slouch? What quirks do they have? Do they drum their fingers while sitting? Do they tap their foot while waiting in line? Write down what you observe and you can apply the results to your characters. It will give your original characters a more realistic touch.

I remember posting this fairytale cottage a while ago, so it’s on the market again. It could use a little sprucing up, but it has some wonderful features. Built in 1926 in Mt. Plymouth, Florida, it’s on the market for $400K and sold back in 12/21 for $300K even though it was listed for $400K back then, too. 

The first unique feature is this painting above the garage door.

It has a huge living room with built-ins, nooks, and a cool fireplace. Rustic ceiling with beams has a medieval looking lighting fixture.

It must have been the original owner who did the artwork. This painting of a fish is above the fireplace.

Next to the stairs is a guest powder room. (Notice the peeling paint that needs attention.)

It has a nice dining room. 

The current owners renovated the kitchen. Doesn’t match the house, but it’s so new, I think I would just put a darker stain over it.

The stove is placed in what may have been a fireplace, but there were stoves in the 20s, so it might just be a recent architectural feature. So glad they left the cozy little dining nook. 

Look at the sunroom- rough-hewn log ceiling with a stone floor and pane windows all around.

Stairs that go up to 2 bdms look like something you’d see in a fairytale house. That little lantern niche is a nice feature. 

I have been noticing filled-n cracks in the walls and ceilings. There is no closet in this bdm, just a small added closet.

This larger room also has cracks. Hmmmm. 

The bath is very interesting, I would hate to cover it, but the faux finish on the wall looks like mold. There are 2 original cabinets, though. 

In these closeups, it looks like the original owner painted what no longer looks much like fish on the bathroom walls.

The home is surrounded by .96 acres.
