I got one hour's sleep today because of the preparation of the history presentation, so nothing big will happen, BUT I'm already thinking about the headcanons about the Scout.

🪖Headcanons / Fanons about a Soldier:

Headcanon:

• Homophobia – TF2's actions take place in the 60s and 70s, so homophobia is completely normal in those realities.

• Supports the Vietnam War, literally dreams of fighting, because this is an actual combat action at the time of the comics – this is indicated by the accessories "Soldier's Stash" and "Shellmet" – "We've hit the top of the mountain, son! Now let's defend this pile of rocks!" – a possible reference to the combat action on Hamburger Hill, cutting off ears, as "Tiger Force" did in Vietnam, of course, a scene from the comics:

He has a nickname for every mercenary, and not only for enemy mercenaries.

Fanon:

• Survived Prohibition in the USA, made wine and other light alcoholic beverages, sold them underground.

• As a true American, he loves baseball (and American football), so he can often play baseball with a Scout. It resembles a scene from movies where father and son also play.

• Has a good relationship with the Scout, I would even say "parental", because both are hyperactive Americans who love sports and battle. The soldier likes to call the Scout different names – "shorty", "rascal", "wit" and "son".

• Can imitate different animal sounds, especially the cry of an eagle and the chirping of raccoons. This unusual skill appeared as a result of working as a "ranger" – a reference to the comic book Doom-Mates.

• Denies many diseases, believing that this is an excuse to leave the army. He hates long-term treatment, because this is a "manifestation of weakness" that goes against the image of a real warrior. A broken leg is no reason to shirk the army!

Demoman is a alcoholic.

Alcoholism is a person's mental and physical dependence on drinking beverages containing ethanol.

The development of addiction is associated with metabolic disorders. Ethanol is actively involved in metabolism, disrupting the main function of this process — synthesis, that is, the production of substances necessary for vital activity, including dopamines, catecholamines and others.

Alcohol consumption is becoming necessary. In the absence of alcohol, a person becomes exhausted and irritable.

First of all, alcoholism leads to progressive degradation of personality (narrowing the range of interests, decreased cognitive abilities, deterioration of emotional state) and characteristic lesions of internal organs: liver, gastrointestinal tract, heart, lungs (tuberculosis due to decreased immunity).

Factors of alcoholism development:

a) A dysfunctional environment – according to my headcannon, the Demo was born in the 30s.

"In the 30s, a difficult socio-economic situation persisted in Scotland. The problem of unemployment was acute in Scotland."

b) Difficulties in the professional sphere and personal life – the second point follows from the first point, because mercenary work became a way for the Demo to earn a loaf of bread and it was not always enough for basic needs.

+ The situation in the family. The Demoman tries to take care of the blind mother, because they are the only ones left with each other, so they can't get drunk more. It is his mother who pushes him forward, who is the moral support for Tavish.

Fanon: When the Demo started working on Mann.Co., he began to get drunk more, because he was left without his mother's supervision and responsibility for her.

c) Depression and personality disorders – I can't say anything about this, because the range of such diseases is very large.

But according to the Demoman's mother, it can be concluded that all the time since the dismissal, the Demoman just didn't work.

Headcanon: Soldier is paranoid.

Paranoia is a mental disorder manifested by excessive suspicion, a tendency to see malicious intent in a random set of events and build conspiracy theories.

Why do I think a Soldier has paranoia:

1) Suffers hard setbacks, is prone to overestimated self-esteem.

2) Reacts too belligerently to any questions.

3) Distorts the facts, interpreting the neutral and friendly actions of others as hostile.

4) There is a noticeable low ability to empathy, lack of empathy.

5) It is difficult to work in a team, constantly defends his independence and rejects authority.

In paranoia, there is a complex transformation of one's own aggressive impulses and attribution of these impulses to others, only in a different modified form.

That is, it turns out something like this scheme:

"I love him" → "I hate him" → "He hates me".

"Patients with paranoia feel the slightest insincerity and easily recognize attempts to hide something."

Since almost all mercenaries hide something, the paranoid Soldier interprets this as an attempt to lie, actions against him.

Headcanon: That's why the Blue Soldier was able to make friends with the Red Demoman, because drunk people are too outspoken and straightforward. The soldier just felt the honesty in the words of the Demo.

Possible causes of paranoia in a Soldier:

1) Metabolic disorders in the brain – stress negatively affects the tone of the walls of cerebral vessels and causes a pressure drop. The numerous repetition of such vascular changes is a favorable basis for the development of cerebral atherosclerosis (narrowing of cerebral vessels).

2) Initial personality traits: interpretations of certain situations developed since childhood and habitual ways of responding to stress.

3) Unfavorable life circumstances – the turbulent 20s turned into 1929 – the economic crisis. Millions of people suddenly lost their livelihoods. Then the Second World War.

Headcanon: The decisive point in the development of paranoia was the Cold War. The soldier adheres to the fact that communism must be stopped, that it is the main threat to democracy. Neighbors' stories, television programs, military propaganda – all about the threat of the USSR, nuclear weapons and the arms race.

This only strengthened the Soldier's faith in his rightness.

Fanon: Parades in honor of the heroes of the First World War were one of the main holidays for the Soldier, as well as the US National Day. Little Soldier loved to look at veterans, dreaming of someday being awarded a medal.

Pyro is one of the first favorites, his behavior is both frightening and fascinating at the same time, which is worth the idea of him through the vision of other mercenaries.

Soldier is a loud and traditional American, a soldier who can only fight, can be both a comedic character and a dramatic one. With this variety, he is catchy.

Engineer is a very pleasant character, radiates warmth and comfort literally. Although he has numerous scientific degrees, he also knows "everyday" psychology.

Heavy – defender, that's all said, a cold giant on the outside and a caring family man on the inside. Silent, but clearly not stupid.

Scout is a pain in the ass with a bad upbringing, trying to be the very first and the best, because that's the only way to break through among a bunch of brothers and other punks from the yard.

Spy is mysterious and mocking enemies, refined and clean, but regretting his past and lost time with his own son, will not allow anyone to get into his mind and problems. He can handle it on his own.... Probably.

Demoman – alcoholic, a hereditary bomber and a caring son for a blind mother. I want to know more about him, not only from the side of the eternal drinker.

Medic is a "sociopath" and a man of science, medical ethics goes to hell on the way to knowledge, a pigeon is more important than human life.

Sniper is a loner and a lover of silence, nature is a second home, but he has loving parents behind him, even if not relatives. I also want to know more about the Sniper's relationship with his parents.

What are your thoughts on soldier potentially having Schizophrenia instead of PTSD? I personally hc that he has it (partially because I have it, partially because it makes sense on my head) but I like your analysis's

So far, I am inclined to believe that the Soldier has paranoia against the background of adverse conditions, which I will describe in the following posts when I finish writing the analysis, but I have looked at the symptoms of schizophrenia and I will say that it really looks very much like a Soldier! I really like your headcanon!

It's just that schizophrenia can be different, there are a lot of types and other features of manifestation, so it's scary to take on such a large-scale diagnosis because of the difficulty of understanding the whole essence of a mental disorder.

I very strongly deny that the Soldier has PTSD.

Typically, people with PTSD persistently avoid trauma-related thoughts and emotions, and also do not seek to discuss a traumatic event and may exhibit amnesia about this event.

The body can no longer return to a normal stress response mode and continues to be in a state of alert. A person with an injury never feels safe.

And in the case of a Soldier, everything is radically the opposite. The soldier continues to participate in battles, feels as fun and adventurous as possible on the battlefield, he likes violence against enemies. A soldier strives for rewards and respect. Being a soldier is the only true vocation for him, where he can vent his anger, have fun and become a hero of the USA.

If he had the opportunity to cancel his contract with Mann.Co., then he would obviously volunteer for the Vietnam War, he even has a helmet in the style of the Vietnam War in his accessories 😭
