really interesting to me that rhobb chooses to consistently associate the way galen & his coterie use the skill on fitz with sexual assault. beyond when the fool walks in on justin and serene attempting to break down fitz's walls, he accuses serene "forcing herself" onto fitz, which she denies and its kind of comedic because its the fool but it also rings hollow bc she very much is trying to force herself on fitz. it sort of codifies the invasion of the sanctity of the mind as one of the worst violations that one could be subjected too. the skill as an extension of the agony of being fitzchivalry farseer.
#rote#yeah i think about it all the time#especially in the context of the wit being talked about by other parties as something like a perversion or sexual deviation#while his actual experience of the skill is signficantly more violating especially in the first trilogy#very interesting stuff. compelling juxtapositions.

i was going to post this and be like “me when i realized rhobb was going to make me read about the boat people again” but then i wrote a couple thousand words of boat era fitz/amber in my notes app so now it feels kind of hypocritical to complain about the boats. thank you boats.
