Koori is not the expressive man out there but the day is so ridiculous he really can’t bring himself to care anymore. “It came out of nowhere and of course no one else in this building is going to question it because as long as it looks right then why the fuck not?” He’s trying his hardest not to laugh but can you really blame him? He sighs as the bitterness in his tone slowly ascends to the surface of his conscious thought. Can this day end already as there’s more important things to attend to rather than entertain this.

“It is a contest. Can’t you see?” He casts the taller a gaze, dark brown hues narrowing an inch. “Who gets married first. Who has the most kids. It’s so funny because they are not even happy.” Finally somebody to share his bitter sentiment with and with no strings attached. “There’s no such thing as true love when you’re only getting in relationships just to impress people. Fuck that, If I love you and if the chemistry is there then that’s true love.”

Renji played with the flute in his hand and nodded in agreement. “It’s sad. Really... how did Nietzsche say... a reason for an unhappy marriage is never a lack of love but a lack of friendship... if you jump right into marriage, how are you supposed to build trust in first place? Nobody should ever try to impress people when it means that there is no happiness in whatever they’re doing.” 

Was it envy? Such foul words to such a joyful occasion felt as if he was mocking his friend, when he was really not. “I am happy for her, as she gives me the impression that she is happy, but it’s all oh so blissful. Tomorrow is another day... and whatever follows will show if it’ll last.” He laughed but it was hollow and his words were cold, he rose his glass for a toast and blinked in the sunlight. “The bride and the groom, for they will find their happiness... even if it’s not in each other.”

There were things that were beyond Renji’s capabilities and one of them seemed to joke in a way that Koori actually got it. “Really? Hm...” When was the last time he ever paid someone for taking care of his hair? “I just let my hair grow...”

“... you’re quite charming do you know that?” Even though it was intended to sound snarky, he felt so weak and vulnerable that it came out much softer than he intended it to be. But despite his current physical state, he still had enough power to protest, even if it was just groaning. 

It could be considered a small miracle that he somehow made it to the bedroom, slumping down on the bed, staring at Koori with glassy and dull eyes. “... happy now?”

Haruhi wasn’t wrong, today they let everyone home early without any real explanation. Although the rest of the student body seemed thrilled and relieved, parts of her paranoia still lingered as she left. It was growing rather annoying, the paranoia. She thought that maybe someplace quiet and voided of people would help take the edge off things lately… Maybe she was just hoping to high.

“…” She did say much else as she sat there looking at the menu

“Is that so?” Maybe he was just reflecting too much again, after all he didn’t really know anything about going to school himself. “Take care time. I’ll get back to you when you know what you want to order.” 

She was a human, without a doubt to it, but still he could see bits and pieces of himself in the way her body sent signals to the world around her. Of course it was rude to stare at people so he turned away and continued his work. Every now and then he turned to her, checking whether or not she had made up her mind about her order yet. 

... or maybe she just wanted to be left alone. Either way, it was fine with him. This place wasn’t just a coffee shop, it was also a shelter for people who didn’t know where else to go.

It wasn’t that he didn’t care, not that he wanted to ignore the text messages and phone calls, there was just this cloud of discomfort looming over his head, making him ignore every attempt of people to interact with him in some way. Even if it was Uta. He probably just wanted to play another prank on him or rant about something that didn’t hold any importance, but after the 4th missed call Renji felt as if it might have been something more serious. 

“He won’t give up.. will he?” There was no need for anyone to answer that question, as he already knew that Uta was a stubborn one. Should he...? Renji sighed, if he ever wanted another moment of peace and quiet in his life he should probably answer Uta’s messages. 

“... huh...?”

What he could gather from them was the last thing he expected, so Uta was really distressed and no matter how much he did not want to trust him... when he honest, completely honest he did care about Uta more than he would ever care admit. 

“Can’t help it I guess...” Sure, he could still pretend that he didn’t care but the longer it took Uta to pick up the phone the more Renji felt his heart sink. “Uta! ... sorry for answering your calls just now... I read your messages. You can stay here if you want to.”
