Generally though, as an animal-fan, I love it when furry stories like Ratterrock still let their characters use their unique animal anatomy, like tails and claws and teeth. And also that their society have some unique quirks befitting the different species that built them, instead of being one to one replicas of human social structures

Just a few reminders of the animal aspects of these furries, its👌👌

Ahhhh, thank you so much! Baji and I really wanted the rodent society, especially the one on Ratterrock, to have its own quirks and habits that just didn’t have a human counterpart. Case in point, rats using their tails as a way to even a fight. You’re gonna see more of that, along with teeth and claws…

Was pads bullied a lot for being albino? Life is not easy for rats so I don't dare imagine for disabled ones... yikes.

I'm sure he doesn't care much for it today but Idk if he was able to be nonchalant about it during his younger years, no matter how good at putting on a mask he already was... that shit shapes you.

Oooooh, how to answer this…

…many rodents, including his fellow rats, were wary of him. A lot of it was from fear that they would be spotted and attacked by predators more easily since creatures with albinism are often targeted. I think there were a few instances of wee Padraic experiencing exclusion, isolation and teasing, perhaps even rougher stuff. And you’re absolutely correct, that shit shapes you…

Padraic was a quick learner, however, and one of the first lessons he learned was that the world would mock you for your differences, so you best make it your weapon. The other lesson was fear could be a valuable weapon in one’s armory if one was smart enough. And Pads isn’t merely smart, he’s a genius.

As he grew (and after some key events in his life) he began to cultivate the kind of reputation that would inspire fear and awe alike. He would be the one people would part for, whether it was in respect or in cowardice. As long as they kneeled before him, he didn’t care what bent their knees and bowed their heads.

In short, bullies may have indeed shaped Padraic Regal. They shaped him into a bully the whole Rock and Rodentdom fears…

Ratterrock is genuinely such an amazing and wonderful story. I’ve complimented its writing a few times in anon because I get a bit embarrassed gushing like this to the creators, but I really do feel every ounce of praise is deserved!

The characters already are so fun and compelling and reading through the blog to find every scrap of additional content and story is such a joy! The characters feel real and unique and interesting to the point I have favorites that haven’t even shown up yet in the comic proper! Hell, even characters like Vaunt and the hairless rats are such a treat(even if I do want to see all of them get decked in their shit at least once)

The queer and neurodivergent rep is also so amazing to see because the characters aren’t just boiled down to their identities like they tend to be in so much other media! Locke isn’t soley is autism or status as a gay man, Lorcan isn’t soley a bisexual man, Sorcha isn’t soley a bisexual woman. It’s truly amazing to see and has been such a wonderful time to see this go from asks and questions to a comic out and published!

It’s really been so inspirational to watch and has pushed me to really get back into writing and working on my own stories to hopefully one day make public too!

Keep up the incredible work and I can’t wait to follow this story more over time!

Baji and I have poured so much of ourselves in this world, and it makes us feel beyond amazing that people are responding so positively and so strongly to it. We’ve spent so much time fleshing out this characters, all of them, and it’s just the beginning of this wild and wonderful adventure. There’s more characters to discover, and we’re thrilled to have all of you along for the ride!

And to your point about the representation we have in our characters, GOSH, thank you so much. No identity is a monolith - there’s no ONE way to be autistic, or bisexual, et cetera. To reduce a character to just one facet does a disservice to the story, to them, and to creating a world that feels authentic (as authentic as an anthropomorphic rodent secret society can be, right?). Baji and I want these characters to be REAL, complex, interesting. We can’t wait for more of you to experience their personalities to a deeper depth.

Also, how deeply flattering that you’ve been inspired to work on your own stories - a creator, be they artist or writer or what have you, can’t be paid a higher compliment. Thank you so so so much.

what kinda pancakes would the cast like/top their pancakes with ?

Ohohoho, this is DELIGHTFUL. Let’s contemplate…

Padraic would probably like something decadent, yet classic. The highest quality of clotted cream and a gorgeous garnet drizzle of puréed fruits. Locke would go for something stark yet elegant, the darkest bitterest drizzle of chocolate ganache and nothing else.

Sorcha likes things light and flavorful, but also beautiful. Blackberry crème fraîche in artistic swirls would be perfect, topped with a candied lemon peel. Bogdan turns down pancakes entirely, he finds them far too unhealthy.

Lorcan, meanwhile, would want something savory and sweet - candied maple bacon, and lashings of caramel and peanut butter. Add some fresh chopped strawberries, and YUM. He needs the carbs as a boxer!

Rilla would ever so enjoy clotted cream and cherry preserves, please! Ooooh, and pretty little edible blossoms as decoration!

Luella likes it simple and sweet, the tart sweetness of a good lemon curd and some beautifully baked blueberries.

Brig would grumble over the fuss being made over some pancakes, it’s just gonna go in your gob. But…she wouldn’t say no to some fresh Irish butter that melts like a dream and a sprinkle of brown sugar.

Saoirse would love baked apples with a brown sugar and cinnamon glaze, something she can sop up with the pancake. It’s homey and comforting and she loves it with a good cup of coffee.

Casimir would legitimately dust his pancakes with cocoa powder and chile flakes. The man loves his heat. Jess has to admit, after trying a few bites, that he may be onto something. She prefers a secret sauce she’s whipped up out of cocoa nibs, black pepper, coffee beans, and other ingredients she refuses to divulge.

And now the Ratterrock Pancake Breakfast shall commence!
