The way Jax vents about Ragatha perfectly lines up with how Gangle described her to Pomni! Both have grown frustrated to Ragatha positive attitude as it feels like she's less so being genuine and more so playing a facade. Even if her intentions are genuine, it's the way she constantly acts like things are fine that annoys them.

He makes jokes about horrors because he knows that it's his most efficient way to keep himself sane. If everything is a joke and nothing matters, then he won't need to feel vulnerable or helpless in the face of everything that they get put through.

He's the only thing that he has control over and now this world is messing with THAT too! Things that are supposed to be permanent (his tail) and within his control (his clothing, his diet) are being changed without his say-so! His long-standing way of preserving his sanity is being jabbed at so of course it leads to him losing it!

He has one defense! What do you think happens when it's gone?

Surprised to see not that many people talking about a lot of Jax's anger coming from a loss of bodily autonomy?

That struck me as a huge thing from this episode. From first the vegan joke to how he gets noticeably distressed from it at the bar, to realizing his tail is gone, even the maid outfit section, Jax clearly doesn't like being controlled. He tends to roll with the punches during adventures, or finds ways to have fun otherwise, but when its his own body being changed against his will, thats when he gets actually upset beyond the point of masking it with being an ass

People seem to be missing that it was Jax, specifically, that was uncomfortable/disliking Ragatha's consant positivity. Everyone else seems to mostly ignore it or even like it! But I think it's important to make that note because I think it's incredibly interesting and I think lends MORE into the depth of each character. The two are like polar opposites when it comes to maybe not so healthy coping mechanisms

I’m working through my thoughts and theories and I’ll have so much more to say but I will for now say I LOVE BEING RIGHT THAT JAX IS LIKE THAT FOR A REASON.

He is a jerk for self preservation. His last real and close friend abstracted and he doesn’t want the same fate, which is probably why he’s not only been so emotionally detached but actively trying to push everyone away by irritating them and instigating problems. Attachment can cause so much suffering and in a place like the circus, where everyone can succumb to abstraction, it hurts too much. He doesn’t wanna care about anyone else again just to lose them again because it HURTS and he’s ONLY 22 he’s a BABY.

And he’s TRIED to be actual friends with Pomni throughout the whole show and particularly this new episode. So her “Do you have any actual friends?” question when he’s tried so hard and WAS actively trying to open up to her seconds before was so hurtful. And Ragatha did not help. At all.

He’s the youngest out of all of them and I wish everyone would give him a little more grace and kindness, then maybe he wouldn’t be so much Like That.

Me realising this episode kinda confirmed the idea that Jax pushes people away because he doesn’t want to experience having a friend then losing them again which is what tiny Jax au centers around
