I’ve just watched the handala stream live for a few hours and just a while ago the occupation surrounded and got on board.
Countless armed men.
I hope the world took note of the soldier who looked around, at the camera, and then proceeded to TURN IT AWAY from the many US citizens on the ship, and instead towards some meaningless equipment instead.
Says a lot. Why turn it away?
And just a reminder, this ship is carrying formula for starving babies. The UN predicts 14,000 infants will die without aid in the coming period.

I think all those men are guilty and I won’t be supporting any of them after all this and I’m kinda side eying the people that do. some of peoples comments on twitter after the verdict are disgusting//
Exactly. The entire events of that evening are now in the public domain and the behaviour of every single player involved (including those not charged) was absolutely disgusting. We cannot normalise that just because they were acquitted. They still treated a lone drunk girl like an object for their own gratification and entertainment and then when they were done with their fun they discarded her like garbage and told her to get out because they wanted to go to sleep. Even if the law cannot find them guilty for SA because of a beyond shitty joke of a trial, it doesn't mean that what they did was all fine and ok.
The Crown's absolute ineptitude during this trial was maddening. They didn't even put up a fight. Those defence lawyers ran rings around them from the getgo. There really was no choice but acquittal because the Crown absolutely failed to make their case.
But what happened in that room still happened and it was still disgusting even if the prosecution felt like they didn't really want to prosecute and were simply going through the motions. The thing for anyone starting to be like 'well they're innocent and I like him as a player so it's ok now' is like - really?? If you watched a video of that same player tormenting a puppy or a kitten for hours before tossing it aside you'd cancel them for life. Why are you not as angry when they do it to a human woman. Maybe think about why that is.
I think part of the issue is 'ooooh but he's a cute famous hockey player!!!!' and that's why these men are so easily able to prey on women and use them the way they do. Let's hold these men to a higher standard than we do. Let's stop giggling and rolling our eyes at revolting behaviour just because someone is a famous and successful athlete.

Hello, my name is Saja. I’m a mother to a beautiful 8-month-old baby girl, writing this from a place I never imagined I’d be — surrounded by destruction, holding on to my daughter while the world around us falls apart. 💔
We used to have a home. 🏚 A simple place, but it was filled with love. Now it’s gone. What remains are memories, silence, and an overwhelming fear of what tomorrow may bring.
Each day, I wake up not knowing if we will make it through the next. My daughter should be learning to walk, to smile at strangers, to feel safe in her world — but instead, she’s learning to live in the middle of a war zone. 🕊️
I’m not writing this to ask for pity. I’m sharing our truth because silence won’t protect us. Maybe, through this message, someone will hear us — and care. 🤍
If you feel moved to share our story or offer support, it would mean more than words can say. Every kind act ripples outward. ✨

Help my family save themselves from hunger
Hello, I'm Ahed from Gaza. I know asking for donations isn't easy. I now support an entire family. We're living in an unbelievable famine; we wake up and go to bed hungry. We don't have money to buy food; it's too expensive.
We need $50 to buy vegetables and flour. 🙏😭
A small donation from you makes a huge difference in our lives. With your donation, you could save a family from death.
Thank you for standing by us during this ordeal. 🇵🇸🙏

idk how coherent this is going to be. i also know this is the wrong platform for this but this is where i rant so. bear with me.
today, the sexual assault trial against five canadian hockey players which has been ongoing for months reached a verdict. and that verdict was that the victim's testimony was not credible and the boys were cleared.
im not going to get into all the details of the case you can find those if you want. tho i think it is important to remember that this was a crown trial not a civil trial. there was a civil trial several years ago which ended with a settlement. a civil trial is between private individuals, a crown trial is between the government and private individual(s). the crown trial was opened because the police believed they had enough evidence to charge these boys. that. i think. is context that is often lost in the discussion around this case.
some more important context is that these boys were on the canadian world juniors hockey team when this happened, which is run by Hockey Canada. Hockey Canada, it was found out when these allegations were first brought to light, had been putting a certain percentage of their registration fees towards a fund created specifically for paying off people who came forward with allegations against their players. it is heavily implied that these were largely sexual assault allegations. and we know that they did pay out of this fund several times over the last ten years.
i've been trying very hard to not engage with content about this court case. because it's upsetting. and because i didn't expect there to be any justice. because there can't be really, and i don't understand why the crown chose to prosecute this case. we do not have a legal system that has the capacity to deal with sexual assault, we just don't. the judge ruled that the victim was not credible because her experience, her testimony, could not be proved beyond a reasonable doubt. which is the case in like 99% of sexual assault cases.
i get why the judge had to rule the way she did within the confines of the legal system. but like. what i don't get is what we're supposed to do exactly? like why do i keep having to watch the same thing play out again and again and nothing changes.
Hockey Canada had a literal fund for paying off their players' victims and we know that. We KNOW that. and nothing is going to happen.
to any of those men.
to any of these boys.
E.M, the victim in this case, went to the police the next day. the next morning. she went to the police. and all i have been able to think this whole time is like. i can't imagine doing that. why the fuck would i ever go to the police? i can't imagine testifying on the stand. the crown would call me as a witness and i would refuse. why would i put myself through this? through any of this? just to be told that im not credible. just to be told that these poor boys, are so talented, they had such bright futures. how could i do this to them.
it's brock turner all over again. he's such a good swimmer. what a shame.
the legal system is incapable of handling these cases and so is public opinion.
these boys and their futures, their potential, remains more important to us than the girls they abuse along the way. it's as if the question in these cases is always: was the pain you suffered great enough to bridge the gap between your worth and his? like sure, okay, what these boys did wasn't great, but was it bad enough to make them worth less to us? bad enough to make us believe in you? And the answer, most of the time, is no.
i think the reason the "me too" movement accomplished so little in the end is it was predicated on the belief that if people really understood how rampant and common sexual assault was, if women came forward, if their stories were heard, people would be shocked - horrified - into changing things.
but i don't think the rape of girls horrifies us.
i just don't.
we know that it is happening, we have always known. Hockey Canada knew. we just don't care. that's why these cases always play out the same, why nothing is changing in the way we handle them or approach them. rape is the price we are willing to pay for the success of the men we admire and respect.

I know some people were unhappy with the change in the Lockwood & Co. TV series to make Joplin a woman instead of sticking to the books, but I actually think it was a brilliant choice because it gives a glimpse into another horrific yet entirely realistic reality of a society where children are thrust into roles not meant for them, roles meant for adults. A reality where a predatory adult woman spending a lot of time alone with a teenage boy wouldn't so much as raise an eyebrow, wouldn't merit more than a teasing "Oh, 'Pamela' now, is it?" from the boy's teenage friend. That Lockwood and Lucy didn't pick up on the fact that Joplin was preying on George (albeit for different reasons) makes even more sense in this context because I have to believe that that kind of behavior from the adults towards the front line soldiers that were the children had become a lot more normalized at that point.
