9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 4: Was Buck lying when he said he was trying to get Tommy's attention?
I'm a little frustrated about the people who said that Buck was lying when he said he was trying to get Tommy's attention because according to them, he was trying to get Eddie's attention not Tommy's, and the argument they use is the gym scene...
I'm frustrated because I want to ask them: "Have you guys never watched a TV show, ever?"
TV showrunners have different way of structuring their episodes, some episodes are set up to be emotionnal, some are set up to be dramatic or romantic, some are heavy on the action scenes and some are meant to get a surprised reaction by introducing a plot twist the audience didn't see coming. It can be a big plot twist like the finale of the 1st season of the Good Place or it can be a smaller one like in this episode of 911.
And whenever they want to set up a plot twist, the writers will put small hints along the way, that are not obvious right away but will contribute to the "ah" moment when everything clicks into place after the plot twist is finally revealed.
The whole point of the episode was for people to think Buck was trying to get Eddie's attention because he was jealous of his best friend spending time with someone else and BAM, it's revealed that in fact it was the "someone else" Buck had been interested in all along.
And if you look closely, there are clues throughout the episode showing that it was about Tommy all along.
1. Buck asking Tommy for a tour.
At first we think that Buck was just testing the waters and thinking about switching jobs but at the end of the episode Buck reveals it's because he was trying to get Tommy's attention.
Moreover, a lot of people assume Buck was disappointed because Tommy left with Eddie and he was jealous about Eddie. But if you pay attention, Buck's smile drops the moment Tommy turns him down for drinks, and that was even before he saw Eddie in the car.

2. Buck's rant to Maggie
Buck was complaining about Eddie spending time with Tommy and even going to a basketball game with him.
And later when he talked to Maddie after accident accidentally injuring Eddie, he admitted he did it because he felt left out and was trying to get "his" attention.
But in retrospective, he never specified who he was trying to get attention from. He could have meant Eddie or Tommy.
And it's confirmed that he was indeed talking about Tommy when he says this.
Tumblr media
3. The gym scene
We all assumed Buck was trying to get Eddie's attention when he was at the gym because he wanted to spend more time with him. But if Buck had wanted to hang out with Eddie, he would have just asked, they're best friends. Buck ordered the basket Ball because he wanted to be invited to the basketball game because Tommy would be there. Same for the karaoke. Buck never had a problem with asking Eddie to hang out, the only differentiating factor here is Tommy.
Tumblr media
Why would Buck suddenly be so awkward around Eddie? He was trying to get an invite so he could see and when it didn't work he asked Chimney.
4. The basketball game
Buck admitted that he accidentally hurt Eddie because he was trying to get Tommy's attention.
Tumblr media
5. The "big reveal"
Up until the very end of the episode we were made to believe Buck was being jealous of his best friend having a new best friend.
Even Tommy thought so.
Tumblr media
It's not until Buck reveals he wanted to get to know Tommy and was trying to get his attention that everything clicks into place for the audience and we understand why Buck was acting like that.
We weren't watching someone being jealous over his best friend spending time with someone else but someone acting like a fool because he had a crush.
TL:DR: Buck was trying to get Tommy's attention all along. The show just set up the episode in a way that would lead to a plot twist, a "big" reveal and a romantic kiss.
What do you guys think? Was Buck trying to get Eddie's attention as well?

You're making my day better
Summary
There's nothing like a cup of coffee and a loving embrace to take the sting out of a nightmare, and the florist won't disagree. Especially when it's the bookseller who does the coffee and the hugging.
Notes
I just missed my florist and bookseller and wanted them to have a little moment of domestic bliss.

It was one of those mornings.
When the nightmare clung to Crowley like a leech.
When he felt its shadow hovering over his head.
He reached the kitchen where Aziraphale was finishing the coffee, the smell pleasantly tingling his nose.
He couldn't hold back a yawn, then scratched his head before saying in a still sleepy voice, "Good morning, my angel."
He planted a kiss on Aziraphale's hair as he walked by and jumped up to sit on the kitchen counter.
Aziraphale looked at him with a fond expression and replied, "Good morning, sweetheart.  I'm surprised you're up, considering it's your day off. You could have slept longer. "
Crowley shook his head and replied monosyllabically, "Nightmare...couldn't sleep."
Aziraphale's expression turned compassionate as he poured coffee into two cups before turning to his lover and handing him one. The florist took it gratefully, inhaling its scent with an expression of delight.
He set the cup down beside him and took the bookseller's hand, pulling him between his legs.  Aziraphale, smiling with amusement, let the florist manhandle him without resistance until he was in the right place, with his back to him.
The bookseller leaned against Crowley, who wrapped his arms and legs around him, resting his chin on his lover's shoulder.
Aziraphale took a sip of coffee and, after humming contentedly, asked Crowley quietly, "Aren't you drinking your coffee?"
Crowley hummed against Aziraphale's ear, "I need you now, not coffee, at least not right now. Can I stay like this for a while?"
Aziraphale nodded and replied softly, "Of course, sweetheart. Whatever you need."
They stayed like that for a few moments in silence, Aziraphale slowly sipping his coffee while Crowley nestled against him.
After a moment, the florist leaned his head forward on Aziraphale's shoulder and said softly, "I could use a sip now."
Aziraphale chuckled and brought his own cup to Crowley's mouth, who took a sip before saying, a playful smile on his lips, "It's like an indirect kiss."
Aziraphale laughed softly and replied, "It's totally cheesy."
Crowley chuckled into his neck, fully aware of the shiver he was causing in his lover, before replying in a laughing tone, "I know you like it, so don't pretend you don't.... That's why I'm going to tell you something cheesier. You know I love coffee, and that I love you even more. But do you know why?"
Aziraphale shook his head, curious to see what nonsense Crowley would come up with.
"Coffee makes my day bearable, but you make it enjoyable."
Crowley's propensity for saying profound things when Aziraphale least expected it never ceased to amaze him, and above all left him once again speechless and blushing.
Crowley, knowing this, whispered in his ear, "See? I knew you'd like it. I knew you'd like my cheesiness, my sweet angel."
Aziraphale didn't try to deny it because it was true, so he set the cup down on the counter and turned before taking his lover's face between his hands and saying softly, "I still prefer a direct kiss."
Then he gently pressed his lips to the florist's and Crowley felt the last remnants of his nightmare slowly fade away in the soft, coffee-flavored embrace.

Tommy needed to talk to Evan. He knew he'd caused some jealousy there, he never wanted Evan to think he was trying to take his best friend away from him. He decided to use his resources to find out where the cute firefighter lived. Was the other man interested? He honestly wasn't even sure if Evan was into guys. His jealousy about Eddie wasn't remotely romantic, that much he knew.
He was a confident guy but that knock on Evan's door was hard. He didn't want to seem pushy or desperate. He wanted to see if maybe there was something here but he wasn't ready to push Evan out of the closet. The moment he looked into Evan's eyes he immediately became vulnerable. He had already planned on apologizing but now he wanted to hold onto this feeling, like maybe there was something there.
Evan was apologetic and reassuring and flirting? All Tommy knew is the other man couldn't stop blabbing. He really needed him to stop long enough to try something. Fuck it. His kiss was soft but hungry, Evan sighed into him. Pulling away he immediately saw the emotion in Evan's eyes, the relief, the self realization. He wanted to pull the man into his arms to reassure him, to kiss him again, to offer comfort and support. Not yet, Tommy, not yet.

I always thought Buffy switched networks after season 5 because WB didn't want it anymore, but turns out it was because WB wouldn't go higher than a $40 million budget and UPN swooped in and offered them $50 million, so now I'm picturing this
UPN: Welcome to our network! What are you going to do with the extra $10 million? Marti Noxon: I'm gonna make Buffy and Spike fuck a house down
