West Berlin Bartningallee 1984. These assorted tower blocks were part of the “Hansaviertel Interbau 1957 (Permanent Housing Exhibition) 1955-57″. They were experiments in ‘modern living’ after the war, high rise and low-rise. But everyone back then thought we would be living in science-fiction style towers by the 21st century

West Berlin August 1986. Odd to think that being in possession of any of these magazines just a few kilometers away in East Berlin would have you arrested.

West Berlin 1986. There was always something slightly surreal about West Berlin to my eyes. Here for example; a display case full of ladies’ underwear and night attire - on an U-Bahn platform… Really? Does that make the West better than the East? They did have underwear in the East, for goodness’ sake!
