Had an absolute blast today doing my first organised event of the year (thanks to covid.....!). Options of a 20,40 or 60km route, and I couldn't help but go for the big one! Great to have a fully marked route in a place I've never been before. Had a cruise around Coed Llandegla yesterday, to try out my new camera. Couple of videos from the skills area. Despite biblical rain driving there, I stayed dry on the trails. An amazing day out for my longest ride ever! Started out down Macc canal, switched to Staffordshire way along Rudyard lake. Followed to leek and through ladderedge park to the caldon canal. Followed national cycle route 550 to the manifold trail, then roads across to Harrington station on the tissington trail. Joined the high peak trail to the end, then down to earl sterndale and up towards Buxton raceways. Carried on along the white peak loop before climbing from Buxton to the cat&fiddle. Down to wildboarclough and up to standing stone. Finally up through the forest and home. What an adventure! Started out going up through Macclesfield forest, up to the cat&fiddle and down into goyt valley. Then down to Whaley bridge and into the canal. Eventually came off the canal and into the Pennine bridleway up into saddleworth moor. All the way up and across standedge and white hill. Across the footbridge above the highpoint of the M62. Up to Blackstone edge before descending to Hollingsworth lake. Yesterday's ride was an exploration of an old MTB book route. Since the book was published in 2005, bikes have changed a lot, and I felt that the entire route would have been more than manageable on my gravel bike. We had an epic adventure today on Cadair Idris. Planned the loop around a week ago and promptly forgot how much elevation gain there is! We started at around 120m above sea level, and the peak of Cadair Idris is 893m!
