I have marched Spartans and taught dci before, and am friends with a lot of the current staff at Spartans.
My understanding is that it鈥檚 a financial decision, as (apparently?) open class corps are not allowed to have sponsors, while world is able to.
I hate that Spartans was pushed into going world, but obviously would prefer this to them folding. I feel as if this will change what makes them the Spartans, and I know that people on the board of directors have fought against this decision for years.

Spartans becoming world class in 2026!
They just announced that they will transition to being world class in the coming summer, and then become world class the following season if all goes well. This comes as a shock to many, including their own members and alumni, who had previously heard that the corps was steadfast in remaining in open class.
The group won their class this summer, and has beat several lower-ranked world class corps in competition as well. (Reminder that Open/World are scored on the same sheets). However, they still faced competition from other open class corps, and won with less than a point higher score than the silver medalist (Blue Devils B). They have explicitly stated that they will not change anything about their corps, meaning that they will likely not extend their spring training or change their staff at all.
They will remain an open class corps in 2025, but be listed with world class corps on rankings, and become fully world class in 2026 if this coming season goes well.
My own opinion on this is a little worried, seeing as this is the exact same move that Jersey Surf and Music City did recently, and I am not certain that Spartans wants to take their position. I have respect for all of these corps (at the risk of doxxing myself... I cannot throw stones and judge any corps for being low ranked). The morale and hype that they will gain by moving up in class will probably equal the morale and hype lost by being beaten by other world class (and perhaps even open class!) corps. Additionally, I am not certain that this move will gain them a huge amount more members or more money. Somewhat scratching my head at what the motivations are.
Any DCI fans please comment with your thoughts or predictions about how this will work out!

I literally just made this account rn to post this
does anyone have any thoughts about WGI independent world rankings this year??
fusion coming in first? ETUDE COMING IN SECOND??? blessed sacrament only coming in third because paramount got a .10 penalty???? like that is actually crazy
personally as much as i loved fusion this year it didn鈥檛 seem like a gold medal show? meanwhile sac and paramount鈥檚 were crafted so well i鈥檓 amazed neither of them came in AT LEAST 2nd.
