The common fan perception of Aziraphale in Ineffable Wives AUs is that she would present as pretty stereotypically feminine, corresponding to male-presenting Aziraphale’s effeminacy. However, I’d argue that that effeminacy is thematically specific to that male-presenting form, with the fact that Aziraphale revels in this visibly queer style in spite of how humans often look down on him for it being extremely relevant to how he views his life on Earth as liberation from Heaven’s strict gaze. This overtly queer presentation would immediately make him stand out to humans, precisely what he isn’t supposed to do as Heaven’s representative on Earth, but he leans into it anyway as a pure expression of the identity they try to stifle in all angels. This message would be lost if Aziraphale just leans into normative femininity when presenting as a woman. Therefore, in the case of Ineffable Wives, Aziraphale should be perceived as a butch lesbian. Aziraphale stopped in his tracks as he was passing by the back door.

He’d been busy all afternoon, working on his inventory of signed first-edition manuscripts; he was far more interested in keeping an accurate count of them now that there was no chance he’d have to sell them. They were safely tucked away on the cottage bookshelves, now, old leather and paper and ink, poems and novels and letters from centuries of history, and Aziraphale had started sifting through them again, enjoying the memories they brought back to him. He was carrying an old bound volume of Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories when he found himself arrested by the sight outside the window.

Crowley had been out gardening. Or at least that was what he’d claimed he’d be doing when they finished lunch, when he wandered out back into the brilliant sunshine. But he wasn’t gardening now - instead, he was sprawled out on his back in the grass, his wings fully manifested and spread beneath him, his eyes shut as the sun shone down on his face. Contentment seemed to radiate out from him, rivaling the sunlight his skin absorbed, catching Aziraphale in its glow.

Aziraphale’s heart ached at the sight. It still ached, sometimes, just seeing Crowley like this.

i was thinking about south downs scenes for the end of s3 again earlier and like. when it's either crowley (removing his gardening gloves) going up to aziraphale (reading a book in a lawn chair) or aziraphale's shadow moving over crowley (knelt on the floor tending to some plants) like a wing for a moment and either of them extending a hand to the other and saying "time to leave the garden, angel/dear"...and the other taking their hand and standing to walk back to the cottage with them...and they both look up because it starts spitting rain as they're walking back then it starts pouring suddenly and they run back to the house laughing and still holding hands??? then what.
