Hello, welcome! I hate TERFs, I write about stuff that I wish someone told me when I was younger, and I shame bigots who are flagrantly bigoted…but the coherent theme of this blog fizzled out. Pro: love, lefty, feminism, union, children’s rights, healing, aging, fat liberation, radical self-love, queer, childfree, but supporting parents through the village mentality, and solidarity. Anti: abuse, TERF, capitalist, white supremacist, AI, colonizer, republican, fascist, billionaire, compulsory parenting/pregnancy. (Yes, I write a lotttt. No, I’m not saying everyone posted here is a bigot, check the tags. I try to use stuff like #good shit for the non bigot posts.) Blog run by a white AuDHD queer fat lady early 40s, a Hoosier currently in Austin, TX. Not accepting submissions anymore. Tag me if you want my attention on a post. A lot of people make fun of how “get divorced/breakup” is the go-to response for most r/RelationshipAdvice and r/AmITheAsshole? posts but if your relationship gets to the point where you feel like you can’t talk to anyone IRL and have to ask for advice and opinions online, there is something severely wrong. Sometimes the subjects say it themselves, “I can’t ask my friends and family about this because they already hate my partner and I don’t want to give them ammunition.” abusive relationships isolate the person at the center, make them feel like they constantly have to be on the defensive for their shitty partner. Which is why these people will post about their partner putting them in the most diabolical situation imaginable and then spend their entire afternoon defending them with their whole chest and replying to every comment. All you can do is reiterate “This is not normal behavior. Your partner is not a good person with a couple of flaws, they’re making your life worse. Breakup.” even as a neutral third party who doesn’t know either of these people in real life.

My lukewarm take is that one of the greatest privileges of all is the ability to exist as the «default setting», being seen as just a person, and not as a representative of a group of people who share your gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity or cultural/religious background. Which is why the «not all men» pushback against any mention of structural sexism was what it was. Because suddenly people who were used to being the default setting were being made into representatives of their gender, having to prove that they were better than the stereotypes forced upon them. And they did not like that one bit.

anyway you should always remember that all those foreigners you see dying on the news are just as real people as you are who have just as much interiority as you do. there is nothing about you that makes you more important and it is by pure chance that you are not in their position. in fact, this holds for all of history. every person, no matter the horror of the fate that befell them, had just as much interiority as you do. i feel like some people haven't fully internalized this.

From the article:
Any common face mask provides significant protection against the virus that causes COVID-19, but N95 masks are most effective at slashing the amount emitted by infected people, according to a University of Maryland-led study released Wednesday. So-called “duckbill” N95 masks scored highest in the study, which measured the exhaled breath of participants who were tested both masked and unmasked to measure comparative outputs of SARS-CoV-2. The inexpensive masks, which have two head straps and a horizontal seam, captured 98% of exhaled virus, according to the study published in eBioMedicine. The researchers also found that—in what might come as a surprise to many—cloth masks outperformed the specific brand of KN95 mask that was tested. Surgical masks brought up the rear in performance out of the four types, but even they blocked 70% of the virus, the tests showed. (To reflect the general public's use of masks, study volunteers were not fit-tested for their masks or trained how to properly wear them.) “The research shows that any mask is much better than no mask, and an N95 is significantly better than the other options. That’s the No. 1 message,” says the study’s senior author, Donald Milton, a professor of environmental health and a global expert on how viruses spread through the air.

Netanyahu is now admitting what the intention was all along, the complete takeover of Gaza. Displaced people are already forced into only 25% of Gaza, and now Israel wants to reduce it to 0%. The Israeli settler-colonial project can only be complete through the genocide of Palestinians. They have been destroying infrastructure, killing the environment, killing the people, starving the children.

The "on the hour" NPR news update snippet I just heard went a little like this, "when asked about running for a third term, Trump commented that he 'probably would not'."
WHAT THE FUCK????? WHY ARE WE TALKING TO HIM LIKE IT'S HIS CHOICE
This is the kind of crap where the media does real damage and language and words matter. It's absolutely insane to normalize his illegal/unconstitutional/fascist "third term" bullshit with reporting like that. This isn't some passing personal choice. It is FULLY IMPOSSIBLE TO LEGALLY HAVE A THIRD TERM AS PRESIDENT.
I usually love NPR in the wide scheme of political reporting, but that bullshit was sloppy and dangerous and I'm over it.
But gee, I dunno, maybe it's because the state I live in is under YET ANOTHER hostile republican fascist takeover of the highest order.

Living in the US is crazy cause one of your neighbors can be someone who literally participated in a genocide and it's completely normal and if you express dissent or concern about it everyone acts like you've kicked a puppy

It's not a coincidence anti-migrant nativist fascist politics have become globally popular as climate change is threatening to create billions of climate refugees because capitalism refuses to commit to a total energy transition.
Oil, imperialism, climate change, nativism and fascism are converging in this era of crisis.

Do not ever ask someone if they are pregnant, or ask questions like "when's the baby due?" unless someone has explicitly told you that they are pregnant. The only exception is if you are a medical professional who is asking a patient if they're pregnant for medical reasons. But otherwise, if this is just a classmate, colleague, etc. do not ever ask if they are pregnant, or ask a question that assumes they are pregnant such as "when are you due?"
First of all there are quite a few medical conditions, such as endometriosis and/or gastrointestinal conditions which can cause pretty severe bloating that *looks* like pregnancy, but isn't. (google "endo belly" if you want to see some examples and how much this can look like pregnancy, but isn't). People who have conditions that cause bloating typically already feel bad and self conscious enough about it, and assuming they're pregnant just makes them feel worse and more self conscious.
Or maybe someone just gained weight recently, and if they naturally have a more "apple" shape they'll carry it more in their abdomen, and it's never polite to draw attention to changes in someone's weight.
Either way, if we have falsely assumed that someone is pregnant when they aren't, the result is typically going to be offending the other person and making them feel more self conscious about their appearance, and we don't want to risk making someone feel worse about their appearance.
To add, conditions that can cause bloating, such as endometriosis, are also often linked to infertility, making pregnancy potentially an extra sensitive subject to them, and another reason falsely assuming they're pregnant could hurt their feelings.

I haven't posted about this fucking mess because it's SO OBVIOUSLY a stunt (aside from the eugenics-coding, Sydney Sweeney is the sweetheart of the right who "killed woke" by.... having big boobs), but let it be known that henceforth Sidney Sweeney is THAT dumb bitch and is so far in INCREDIBLY strong candidate for worst look of the decade.
I hated American Eagle when they were an Abercrombie & Fitch knockoff and I hate them even more now!

Zohran Mamdani is such an antisemite that he's winning with young Jews, Reform Jews, and Jewish people overall!
But a 73 year old WASP from upstate New York who thinks the subway is a Mad Max hellscape told me he's second Hitler, so maybe we should believe that.

I am struggling to put my thoughts into words. I don't know how to focus lately on anything while so many people are starving to death in Gaza.
I am finding myself texting my family members and my friends and my local community organizing networks apologizing for disappearing, for failing to respond to messages, for forgetting to check in. I was laid off from my job a while ago, and have not received a single interview. How can I justify writing cover letters when I could be writing fundraisers? But how can I not when my wife needs me to find a source of income so that we can pay rent.
When I write about Palestine, it is the only thing that feels important in my life. But then I fear that people do not read it, and I fear they stop reading as soon as they realize I am talking about Palestine. What can I write so that you will feel my (imperfect, flawed) humanity through them, and not let go when I ask you to hold the humanity of the people of Gaza too?
Many hands make light work, but there needs to be a hell of a lot more hands here. It's heavy right now, but the more people do something, the easier it becomes for every single person trying to act. Please do not fear the weight of this. We need you.
