Like, my big problem with the ending of Season Four is that, not only it's rushed as fuck, it's been done before countless times. Most time travel stories end like that, with the hero having to destroy the time anomaly so the world can be saved and nobody in the world will remember shit or recognize their efforts because the timeline is fixed now and things are how they were always supposed to be, with the people who were the time anomaly never having existed which often include the hero too.

Imo, a better ending I would give to the Hargreeves would be based on the Comission Handbook information about the lives they would lead if Reginald never adopted them: Where they would still exist but they would be common people who never met and lead very different lives and the Academy never came to existence in the first place, but they would still stay somehow connected. Like they would hear Dolores mention her husband Five in interviews since she's a super model, they would hear about this famous poet called The Seance doing a book signing or his poetry book being reviewed in a magazine...And they would always have this strange deja-vu sensation about each other but would never be able to pinpoint why that happens.

From all the consequences the 9/11 had in this world, the ending of The Umbrella Academy is by far the worst possible.

As I’m trying to come to terms with whatever the fuck that was, I’ve decided that:

Seasons 1 and 2 are peak. Absolute masterpieces. Canon.

Season 3 can be taken or left. Has its moments, but overall not as good as the first two. Canon, but only if you want it to be.

Season 4 is a fucking crack fic written at 2am that the author rereads at a later date and decides to delete. Absolutely not canon.
