Hello, I am thinking about getting a 2005-2009 smart car. How is the fuel economy on these cars? Thanks! :)

My 2013 Smart Fortwo gets about 40MPG (roughly 5.9 L/100km) highway; I would imagine a used Smart in good condition would still get at least 35 MPG (roughly 6.7 L/100km), even as old as a 2005 model, though I'm not very familiar with the previous design.  Mercedes Benz introduced a lot of engine improvements when they took over the marque, but I've heard the fuel economy on the older models was excellent.
